High security at QEB, soldiers not happy

The Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua was under very tight security today. Sources within the RFMF told Coupfourpointfive they are unhapy about the retirement age of 55, imposed upon them through State Services Decree.

The entrances were heavily guarded with increased personnel in full battle gear as a meeting was held with army commander Frank Bainimarama.

Sources say they are fully behind Land Force Commander Colonel Pita Driti who is angry that soldiers (including him) will have to retire at the age of 55 while their boss (Bainimarama) will retire at the age of 65 as stated under the Decree.

Bainimarama was to be told that the soldiers had collectively decided that this was unfair and unacceptable. Driti is reportedly incensed that he will have to go at 55.

"Why should I retire at 55", he reportedly thundered to some of his men.

The sources say that in the event the Decree is not changed, then their demand is for every single soldier, officer and the Commander to retire at the age of 55.

Bainimarama was to have been told that he should quit as army commander and become a politician if he wants to retire at 65.

Bainimarama is just 9 days out from turning 55 - on Monday 27 April. According to Wikipedia he was born on 27 April 1954.

looks like the idiot, Driti, is another one of them ... just concerned with what affects him as an individual ... not someone who has the public good as his utmost concern ...

it's obvious that the military does not have a good alternate officer who can lead and put a stop to the nonsense going on in fiji ....

That may be right but the issue here is that finally Driti & his troops now see Frank for what he is. All the lies and deception are wearing thin so does his time as top dog.

Totally agree with you , Anonymous 1. As predicted, it'll come down to them, all the cheap finger-pointing isn't going to divert our attention - Fiji's security forces was and is the problem. Remove them, and we remove the coup-culture.

Why is it so difficult for men/women to do right, the right way, be faithful, loyal & at the end of the day, everyones retires peacefully with a sound deep sleep .. then to witness/live what we see/read today - that reminds me of the WORD - BIBLE : God created us to be upright, but we went in serch for new schemes - it is these new schemes that we've gotten ourselves into and cannot get out off it - ALL IN A MESS .. So, leaders - get back to the very basics of life - DO RIGHT, THE RIGHT WAY - ALL WILL BE HAPPY, PEACEFULLY LIVING TOGATHER MULTIRACIALLY .. GOD HELP US !
