Rewa defiant

The province of Rewa is all geared to host the Methodist Church conference next month, despite the interim regime ordering its cancellation.

Interim Prime Minister and Military Commander Frank Bainimarama told Radio Legend FM that he met Church President Reverend Ame Tugaue on Monday to reiterate the regime's decision.

But sources have confirmed to us that last Saturday the Marama Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa and other influential members of the province of Rewa, met the Standing Committee of the Methodist Church in Suva and relayed their wish that the conference go ahead.

Should this happen, it will put the Church on a warpath with Bainimarama who has also stated that the Standing Committee will now need a permit to hold future meetings.

Bainimarama was on Radio Legend FM (which has given him prominent coverage for two days) this afternoon saying the Church must remove political elements - namely Reverend Tomasi Kanailagi and Reverend Manasa Lasaro - from the Standing Committee if the Church wishes to hold its annual conference in 2010 and beyond.

  1. All we wanna know is who’s collecting all the commission from sale of Air time at Legend FM. Is the Military paying or Prime Minister office....opps….sorry same office.

Seriously though,a few questions arise; what’s Archbishop Petero Mataca and the Roman Catholic Church views are? Are they secretly supporting the Marama bale Roko Tui Dreketi as an ardent member of their Church?

Does the Methodist Church have a/ or groups of brave lawyers to apply for lifting gag orders and bans slapped on the Church, or we wanting for a miracle.

Or just change the name to sitting committee or “Talatala Qases” mini conference, training, or are they banned too.

Some sons or daughters of the devil must be advising the Commander, because soon the next decree may be to stop all Sunday services and compulsory to attend New Methodist Church services…eh...and all come in green, no white please!

  3. How can one not think that the Rewa Defiance is political... isn't Ro Kepa a Catholic? Isn't she a SDL stalwart?
Everyone in Fiji knows the Reverends in question are rebels, and have used their clout to push anti-Christian, and political agendas in the past... to the point where they have been big wheels in the machinery that has brought Fiji to its knees over the past 2 decades.
Please do our nation a favor, and tell them to step down.

  5. Ro Kepa is many things - first & foremost she's a patriot. Mess with Rewa at your own peril.
