Who is Ro Teimumu Kepa?

Ro Teimumu Kepa was the third highest ranking cabinet minister in the two governments of SDL leader Laisenia Qarase.

She was the Minister for Education in the SDL-Consertative Alliance coalition government between September 2001 and March 2006. Ro Teimumu retained her position in the Qarase led SDL-Labour multiparty government after the May 2006 elections until it was ousted from power by Frank Bainimarama and the army on December 5 2006.

During her time as Education Minister, the Education Ministry achieved the record of being allocated the most funds from the annual national budgets. In 2006 her ministry got $333 million but this was slashed by Fiji Labour Party leader and interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry in March 2007.

Ro Teimumu is the younger sister of Adi Ro Lady Lala Mara. She succeeded her as Roko Tui Dreketi following Adi Lady Lala's death in July 2004.

The children of Adi Lady and Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara are her nephews and nieces. Some of them who are closely connected to the interim regime are the Commanding Officer of the army's 3rd Infantry Regiment (3FIR) Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara; Adi Koila Mara Nailatikau, the wife of Vice-President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau; Adi Ateca Mara Ganilau, the wife of interim Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau; and Adi Elenoa Mara, wife of Fiji National Provident Fund chief executive Aisake Taito.

Burebasaga is one of the three confedracies of Fiji. The other two are Tovata - headed by Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and Kubuna - headed by Vunivalu of Bau. The title of Vunivalu has been vacant since the death of the last holder Ratu Sir George Cakobau almost 20 years ago in November 1989.

Despite popular misconception - Kubuna is not headed by the Vunivalu - it is traditionally headed by the Roko Tui Bau Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi.

That's not my understanding. From what I've heard, Roko Tui Bau is simply holding the fort as a kind of regent while the Vunivalu "throne" remains vacant. For more information, see the VUNIVALU OF BAU and KUBUNA articles on Wikipedia - David Cannon. dcannon1965@maxnet.co.nz

That is absolutely true. True story that was kept secret is that the superior power in kubuna lies with the title roko tui bau. Vunivalu is a subordinate chief... a very good example is the title Roko tui Dreketi who is the superior power in Rewa and the vunivalu beign its subordinate chief.

The total authority of Kubuna had always been embraced within the Household of the Roko Tui Bauble after he was murdered by the vunivalu, raised to its prominence up until today.I for one, believe that the Roko Tui Bau is still superior than the Vunivalu.

DavidCannon, I don't mean to offend or to insult u in any manner but what we're trying to stress here is how the Vunivalu (Warlord-Bati) came into Prominence. What history holds cannot be ammended. To clear all toxic air surrounding such topic, The Roko Tui Bau was the only sacred chief in Kubuna- no one can go against this fact. Vunivalu(warlord-Bati) was the subordinate chief or backbone of the vanua of Kubuna. A very good example is of the chiefly Household of Burebasaga, The Title of the Roko Tui Dreketi holds the superior authority in the vanua of Rewa and the Vunivalu of Nukunitabua as the subordinate chief.
What history holds has started to reveal its true meaning, that the authority from Bau has come to an end, as it had been Mentioned by the late Apolosi R Nawai.

Are we the commoners of Fiji really interested in the vested interest of the few.If anything the church is a far superior binding power for our community than the selfish self seeking interest of a few worthless tittles. Worthless to me a commoner who has battled harder and sacrifice more blood sweat and tears so that we can keep our head above water to survive. These chiefs have not brought me equity, wealth or justice.I want freedom and justice of 2014 not the blind faith and fear of 1814.

Fijians should alway retain their culture as it is what makes this race special on earth, as so many other indigenous peoples have forgotten eroded lost or let destroyed theirs. Look at the aborigines of Australia, the Indians of North America as just two examples. One may say so unresponsibly that these titles have not done anything for him - a singular selfish self -righteous statement. This is the culture of a whole nation! And it is now being systematically vaporised under the current Banimarama Govt.
