NZ: Judge only sought visa last week

New Zealand's immigration department says it only received Fiji High Court judge Anjala Wati's visa application last week and no decision has been made.

Yesterday interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum accused New Zealand of interfering with the Fijian judiciary by refusing Wati entry to get urgent medical treatment for her 20-month-old child.

Sayed Khaiyum told Radio New Zealand this morning Wati received a letter from the Suva based New Zealand High Commission last week informing her her visa was declined.

He said she then requested a meeting with them where they formally told her that her visa was declined because she is a High Court judge.

As part of its sanctions on Fiji, soldiers and anyone involved in the interim regime are not allowed entry into New Zealand.

Sayed Khaiyum insisted this was an interference with the Fiji judiciary and not an immigration matter.

Kiwi High Comm - looks like you've been setup?

Sick children - urgent operation etc etc.

Any parent with genuine concern for their child's welfare wouldn't have gone public - simply put the child first - taken the decision -got onto the first plane to India.

Keep up the good work John Key! Do not allow these illegal officers of the Judiciary into your country. The pressure is on for these people who are stealing the taxpayers' money to fund the demolition of Fiji's economy through the guise of taking the country forward.

The NZ Govt must stand their ground because the people are crying for elections so that their views can be taken into consideration when Fiji is being governed. There's so much suffering under this leadership and the people cannot speak out for fear of being punished!

I suspect Aiyaz likes to hear his own voice, that's why he's making a fuss now, as he hasn't been heard from for a long time.

To be honest, I'm sure Frank gets a boner from watching him on T.V. and in turn, Aiyaz becomes aroused at the thought also.

this bloke is a joke and must be a complete embarrassment to the average Fijian.

Hey Aiyaz, stop interfering with NZ's business...thats what you told Banipyjamas to say to NZ regarding Fiji

Feeling idiotic much Aiyaz!

Shocking bad taste NZ. What has this child done to you. And Frank is unlikely to hold elections because you have refused a visa. Shame on the New Zealanders

Khaiyum stop trying to be important you selfish piece of rubbish! Just arrange to uplift the PER and arrange to hold the general elections by 2010. You will see that things will open up automatically.

As it is you can cry and yell until the cows come home-all to no avail!

The arrogance of Aiyaz is unbelievable !
Who does he think he is, that he can dictate to New Zealand , while not accepting any criticism of his own illegal actions

Aiyaz looks like a devil in this photo

I was at the Family Court in Sydney, many years ago, and the female Judge used a similar expression.
It's a part of the act, to either look cool, threatening or just mere theatrics !
But Aiyarse has the added advantage of having pursed lips, and I think he looks quite cute, but of no substance.
