Brij Lal punched by soldiers?

Prominent academic and Fiji historian Dr Brij Lal will be leaving Nadi at 9 o'clock for Sydney after the military regime deported him for his comments on ABC yesterday.

Dr Lal was asked for his opinion on Fiji's decision to kick out the High Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand.

He was taken by soldiers from his Suva home to the army barracks and interrogated for four hours.

Reliable sources have told Coupfourpointfive that soldiers broke his glasses and he was punched on the mouth.

"Reliable sources"?

I'll wait to hear from the horse himself when he arrives back in Sydney at lunchtime.

If it's true, it'll be plastered all over the media, that's for sure.

Brij Lal, former campaigner for NFP, party which won no seats !!!

That's his correct credentials.

Mmm...my way or the highway.

I wonder if they made him run around the oval a few times like they usually do with their opponents?

I'd be very surprised if they hit him knowing they'd end up on the front pages of every paper in the region.

But then those soldiers at the camp seem to be a law unto themselves.

Perhaps the prospect of laying a couple of punches on a self righteous turncoat was just too tempting to resist.

So Brij Lal has specifically denied this story on arrival in Sydney.

Yes, you have your sources...chilli, tomato, worcester, bbq, satay, vakalolo etc. But it didn't happen!

Maybe something like this should be confirmed before you run with it and inflame emotions unnecessarily.

Brij says he may not have been "physically assaulted" but he was "verbally assaulted".

Now we all know that's to be expected in Fiji but Brij now works at the ANU where any kind of assault, even with a feather, is regarded as a heinous crime.

So listen up you boys at the camp. Next time, please talk nicely to the kindly Indian gentleman. He's very sensitive and doesn't like being yelled at. Diddums.

What's wrong with you Four and a Half?

Many hours after you posted this falsehood, it's still there.

Modify and clarify? Not a chance.

Brig Lal was NOT punched by anyone!

Credibility? Zilch.

And I bet you won't publish this.

Brij Lal was punched on the mouth it is true. He won't confirm this to the media because his wife is still in Suva.

Unsubsantantiad Stories.

Difference between this blog & the Fiji media is freedom.
They simply put it out there - whether its true or not is for others too decide?
In this case it was false - so what? He wasn't punched but he was kidnapped - terrorised & deported.
Never underestimate the collective intelligence of your audience.
