Sentencing for guilty eight today

The fate of the eight men found guilty of plotting to assasinate Frank Bainimarama will be known today.

They were found guilty yesterday by the five assessors in the Fiji High Court and could face 14 years in jail.

FijiLive says presiding Justice Paul Maidgan said he believed the eight were guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

The eight are Naitasiri high chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata (pictured right), former Pacific Connex employee Sivaniolo Naulago, former Fiji Intelligence Services director Metuisela Mua and former Counter Revolutionary Warfare soldiers Feoko Gadikibau, Barbados Mills, Eparama Waqatairewa, Kaminieli Vosavere and Pauliasi Namulo.

The men were last week cleared of plotting to kill attorney general Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the then finance minister, Mahendra Chaudhry between August 1, 2007 and November 3, 2007 in Suva.

Editor's Note: The Inoke Takiveikata picture was taken by the Fiji Times when he was arrested in 2007.

I hope people will show up outside court at the sentencing as sign of solidarity for the eight innocent men

The Lord works in mysterious ways !
This could be the catalyst that galvanizes the Fijian community against the Regime, it's Indian and Moslem supporters, once and for all.
f I was Frank Bainimarama and his supporters, I would be looking over my shoulder right now and not going down any dark alleys !

The decision of the ASSESSORS was expected after all they were handpicked by the military regime!

Indeed, though we hardly expect the Military Dictatorship to allow independent judicial inquiry after what happened to them the last time they let the law run its course.

Scumbags. When this is over the accused, along with all the other people that Bainimarama has assualted, injured and/or defamed should sue the Military officers (or their estates) personally.

The Jufge needs to go back where he came from. Iam not at all surprised, what a joke of a court.
