'Replacements' announced for Driti and Roko Ului

Fiji's military regime has announced that Lieutenant Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga is the new Land Force Commander replacing Brigadier General Pita Driti, as it tries to shut down 'rumours' Driti has been sent on leave pending an investigation.

The Fiji Broadcasting Corporation says Major Amani Suliano is also now the Commanding Officer 3rd Fiji Infantry Regiment better known as 3FIR.

It says the appointments were finalised today, quote:"... as both Driti and former 3FIR Commander Lieutenant Colonel Roko Tevita Uluilakeba Mara are on leave."

The announcement (and the use of the word 'replacement's were those of FBC) comes as self-appointed prime minister Frank Bainimarama and his spokespeople try to close ranks about information revealed on Coupfourpointfive about Driti and Roko Ului being suspended.

We revealed yesterday that Driti and Ului's 'leave' is a result of them being implicated in a plot to topple Bainimarama.

The regime has tried to pour scorn on the information because it doesn't want it known that there are big cracks in the ranks or that there were ructions on Friday night at the Queen Elizabeth barracks as a result of them trying to despatch Driti.

But it has today announced that Tikoitoga and Suliano are replacing Driti and Ului, maintaining the old guard are just taking outstanding leave.

The regime must think people are thick. The former land commander before Driti, Jone Baledroka, says there is no coming back from leave and the trail of 'leave takers' prove that.

What is it that Hitler said? If you're going to tell a lie, make sure it's a big one. Well, that's certainly something Bainimarama and his Final Solutions partner in crime, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, know how to do.

See Baledrokadroka's informative piece for more on the demise of those who fall out of favour.

  4. Tikoitoga is known for his anti Fijian stance, who once said on Fijilive in 2007 that the SDL government’s affirmative action policy had wanted to lift indigenous Fijian standards ‘by giving Fijians giveaways, giving them preferential treatment in all government policies, preferential treatment in scholarships, and preferential treatment in the way they can get loans from the Fiji Development Bank’, but the only result had been to make elite Fijians richer. ‘We are telling them to work harder and they will not get handouts. They have to sweat because the bible tells they have to sweat first to get their food.

He should be mindful of the saying,”Dictators and their bumsuckers do not create their own opportunities, they just steal them”

  5. The LFC and the CO3 jobs are so important to Voreqe that he considers them to be his very own pair of scrotums.

In Franky’s world, the only time they should get excited is when he and Mary go to Hollywood and that is not very often.

Any other involuntary scrotum twitches will not be tolerated, as Mara and Driti has found.

  8. When it was discovered in 2007 that the military had overspent its budget by $150m on wasteful “military exercises” such as to campaign the elections of 2006 against the government, Mosese Tikoitoga commented, ‘but that was a national necessity for us’.

The army had responded by cutting rations, severing pay for reservists and cancelling training programs, he explained, but admitting also that shortages of funds had meant that ‘we had to go borrow all the government vehicles’.

Moses did not reveal that the belt-tightening did not extend to the senior command. In mid-2008, Bainimarama received $184,740 payout from Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry for leave not taken extending back to 1978. Around 40 other senior officers including Tikoitoga received substantial sums in back pay.

This is also the man who according to an audit report back in 2006, was on the list of senior Army officers that were living scot free in government quarters and had therefore amassed a huge amount of rental arrears. His arrears were $12,000 which is still unpaid to this day.

  9. When Hitler was awakened the following morning, it was to th enews that the centre of Berlin was under artillery fire...the dragnet was closing fast. In the ghostly surrounds of a room stipped of its former glory, it became clear what he had to do. So, like a drowning man clutching at straws Hitler reached for his luger, then called out to Eva Braun...the Third Reich was over.

  12. Tikoitona appears to be another no school idiot left over in the top rank of FMF. All the good ones have been swept out by El supremo in his bid to protect his ass by ensuring no smart aleck dare anything shady or oppose him. So out go the smarts and in come the dumbs. dumb and dumber. Little does dumb dictator realise he is painting himself into a very tight corner and very soon there will be no way out.
