IRB to see for itself what's happening in Fiji rugby

International Rugby Board representatives are to travel to Fiji next month to investigate issues surrounding the management and governance of the Fiji Rugby Union amid fears the country could be banned from participating in the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

The IRB said in a statement today that chief executive Mike Miller (pictured right in above photo) and regional general manager for Oceania William Glenwright would meet with senior FRU representatives early next month to discuss its concerns.

"The IRB does have concerns that the current situation could create instability and have a negative impact on the management of the union and key IRB-funded development and high performance programmes and also Rugby World Cup 2011 preparations. These concerns have been communicated to the union, who have fully assisted with our ongoing enquiries," the statement said.

The FRU and the government have been at loggerheads since the country's Commerce Commission conducted an investigation into a lottery held to raise funds for the World Cup.

The government said earlier this month it would give F$3 million ($NZ2.11m) to help prepare the team for the September 9-October 23 tournament, but only if the FRU board resigned.

The board and FRU chief executive Keni Dakuidreketi all resigned and a special board meeting was due to be held next week to elect new board members.

The Fiji Sun, however, said on their website the interim board had rejected Dakuidreketi's resignation and cancelled the meeting following a letter from the IRB.

Fiji have been drawn in Pool D with South Africa, Wales, Samoa and Namibia for the World Cup. (NZPA)

IRB should meet all minor/major union reps.
its time for irb/fru,member union and govt to sit and iron out the problem for the better of fru.

To Anon @ Jan 26 4.37pm, WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO BE SAYING 'SACK THE FRU BOARD & GET A NEW BOARD'? speak for yourself you bloody idiot!!! IRB does not operate like small mosquitoe minds like you and Voreqe ... IRB has invested more money, resources into Fiji Rugby compared to Voreqe's illegal $3million offer, where did he get that money from, stole it from where? The IRB recognises intelligent, competent & credible people like Keni, not dictators and thieves like you and Voreqe. Keni has resigned and has nothing to lose, it is the rugby players, Fiji Rugby and the people of Fiji who has more to lose from IRB pulling out its assistance & interest in Fiji rugby.

State facts, what scams?

Well to all those calling for Keni & board to resign - HE HAS RESIGNED SO IT IS NOW OPEN TO THE DOGS FREE FOR ALL, WHAT A JOKE, TO HAVE PEOPLE LIKE FRANCIS KEAN (VOREQE'S BRO IN LAW TO BE @ FRU)!!! NO SHAME, BUNCH OF THIEVES!!! KANA LOTO!!! The minor & major unions were the ones who elected this current board, good get whoever to be at FRU, we lose IRB support and trust, then we just have minor & major union rugby in Fiji ... we won't even be allowed to play Tonga or Samoa. So the agenda of the few (like Voreqe & Kaiyum & co) is now being pushed using the bluff about the FRU lottery to bring down this board. Why can't we wait for the AGM for this board to be kicked out, why does the illegal regime need to kick them out now. THE REAL AGENDA IS FOR VOREQE & HIS FAMILY TO BE ABLE TO GO TO NEW ZEALAND FOR THE WORLD CUP - VOREQE WANTS TO TELL NEW ZEALAND, 'IN YOUR FACE' ... THAT IS ALL, SO FOR THIS SELFISH AGENDA WE HAVE TO COME AND ROCK THE FRU??? VOREQE HAS BEEN GOING TO UNIONS HAVING MEETINGS WITH THEM PROMOTING AGENDA TO KICK OUT KENI & BOARD. YADRA MADA KAI VITI, ENOUGH BEING FOOLED!!! THERE IS NO SCAM, NO LOTTERY BUTAKO, ONLY BUTAKO IS VOREQE & FAMILY & KAIYUM AND CO!!! LET'S SET THE RECORDS STRAIGHT!!! THE LOTTERY THAT WAS DONE TO FINANCE THE FIJI RUGBY TEAM HAS NOW BEEN USED TO FALSELY ACCUSE FRU BOARD OF MALPRACTICE, GIVE ME A BREAK!!! MALPRACTICE GA THE BUTAKO VOREQE & KAIYUM DOING, USING FNPF MONEY TO PAY SALARY FOR CIVIL SERVANTS!!!

WHAT FRANK MISSION YOU TALKING ABOUT - MISSION TO DEPRIVE AND STEAL FROM OTHER'S SWEAT AND HARD WORK??? You have no clue about what the IRB has done for Fiji rugby, so don't act smart, just shut up and go on believing the lies and lack of knowledge displayed by Frank's illegal govt and supporters like you!!!

Banana is only safe now because of the idiotic army. Once he's ousted like the ones before him, he will get a good hiding, including his sidekicks that are raping the country of money. Can't wait for that to happen.

Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord !

The last thing Fiji needs is misguided revenge and mayhem post coup.

If one allows that to happen, then the terrorists have won !

Not everyone in Fiji is behind Frank Bainimarama and therefore should not become a target.

Remember, once law and Order is reinstalled, people who break the Law, will be as accountable as Frank and Co.

For the sake of tranquility, it will be far better and more effective, to allow the Police, Courts and Justice system to take its course.

The major and minor union officials should meet irb , fru and govt officials in special agm.
This will be a great time to clear the air once for all.
Good officials should lead fru .
The fans need people with heart and vision .
No personal ego and hidden agenda board members.

people wait for it,open your eyes to everything thats done and shut your fuken mouth. We have experienced alot of bullying tactics from the previous board and alot of corruption too.Look at the ticket saga its really dictatorial when we dont have choices either to buy $10.00 tickets while the majority of people had to pay for $20.00,is this correct in your eyes...?. This is what I call bullying and corruption amd it is ongoing from yester years.Should this activities continue...?,People come to your senses and try to support things that should be a good of all.It seems to me that ur supporting evil all the way
