Ben Padarath beaten by military

The former politician caught up in the $400,000 fraud involving the Ghanian businessman and lawyer, Renee Lal, is in Suva's Colonial War Memorial Hospital after a beating by military.

Ben Padarath was admitted with burns caused by hot water used by military during his interrogation at the Queen Elizabeth barracks earlier this week.

Padarath was taken in on Wednesday, along with two other people - one of them named to Coupfourpointfive as the former deputy leader of the Fiji Labour Party, Poseci Bune.

Coupfourpointfive has confirmed with key sources that Padarath is recovering in CWMH, but we're not sure yet why he was interrogated.

Padarath has in recent weeks been exposed of using Frank Bainimarama's name to fleece tousands of dollars from a Ghanian businessman.

However, it's being suggested he and the other two me were hauled in for discussing the 'toppling' of Bainimarama and the illegal attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, when rumours were flying last year.

Padarath is believed to have been at the heart of the rumours because of his closeness to the deposed land commander, Pita Driti, who has, of course, been sidelined by the regime.

Coupfourpointfive has also been told the military searched Padarath's Suva home this week for certain documents.

The parallels between Bainimarama's regime and Mubarak's are frightening. Let us all hope the Fiji Military (which at the moment under very poor leadership has lost all credibility) will return to professionalsm and like Egypt's military remove the corrupt Fijian dictator. It is only a matter of time...tik tok....tik tok...

Frank Bainimarama can never hide the inescapable fact that he as commander of the RFMF, is directly and solely responsible for these latest human rights abuses against Citizens of Fiji.

I look forward to his incarceration and a term of life imprisonment.

The ongoing Human Rights abuses by the RFMF under the protection of Frank Bainimarama's Regime, indicates the lengths they are prepared to go to, to stop any opposition, yet this type of reaction, fans the fire of opposition, even more.

Each assault proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that we are dealing with weak cowardly small minded little men, whose mental capacity has to be brought into question.

It's simply amazing that there are so many of them all gathered in one little Army in the middle of the Pacific !

I'm sure the in breading has something to do with it and the possibility that they are the last of the Neanderthals !

It won't be too long now before Frank slips up and finds himself in hot water !

One of the problems with this ongoing human rights abuse is that it becomes extremely unlikely Frank can afford to allow free and fair elections...AT ANY TIME.The longer the stupidity continues the more entrenched the regime becomes.Unless the Chinese can provide Frank and his cohorts with a safe bolthole then they need to maintain power and the more likely it is that bloodshed will be needed to overcome. As for the poor dumb soldiers they don't know the consequences so better the Devil they know.Future is decidely grim.

Ben, you deserve what you got....you are all the same.......good for nothing....

Whilst I agree that Ben should be questioned, I do not for one moment agree that the treatment dished out is warranted. What a bunch of sadists!!

@Anonymous 5:13 ,Ben did not deserve to be bashed.
Why are you advocating that people take the law into their hands.
We are living in a civilised society and things shoud be done in a civilized manner.
Ben deserves a proper investigation by the police not to be bashed by thugs.
The police should charge the thugs for violent assault etc etc.
I don't know Ben from a bar of soap but I believe in letting the police do their work and a man is Innocent until proven otherwise.

correction, his father is the con man. so his mother became a con woman. so the poor son inherited all the right dna for con jobs. what a family. but he did not deserve to be beaten up. poor ben.

I hope the military took this opportunity and did a good job ... ben the conman deserves a good beating ... I hope they lock him up and throw away the keys

Con-man or not, Military personnel have no place in matters of Law and Order and nor should the Police break the law as has already been done to 4 civilians since 2006, not to mention the 5 CRW Soldiers in 200 and the countless others persecuted and tortured under Frank Bainimarama's leadership, if you can describe it as that.
Once you begin to accept the circumvention of law and Order, who knows where it will end.

When they came for me, there was no one left to help me !

Yesterday, was the National Secretary for the Fiji Trade Union Congress Felix Anthony's turn. How long will they be able to stop people from telling the truth? this just shows this regime is full of cowards who are scared of the truth being exposed.
So Bai, khaiyum and party please fear of God. You have no rights to touch anybody but anyways YOUR TURN IS NEXT.
Welcome to the new era of torture.
