Abused Fiji citizen: I remember a few faces and I am sure the person who started the beatings was Bainimarama

Coupfourpointfive interviewed this morning an individual who has been taken to camp and abused. For reasons of safety, they will remain unnamed. The details of the abuse, also at their request, have been downplayed to prevent retribution.

1) Who do you think abused you at camp?
I have always ascertained that Roko Ului, Driti and Frank Bainimarama were all there. I had my hair cut and was verbally abused and was told to know my place.
I was taken into a room and I am sure that the person who began a series of beatings was Frank Bainimarama. The whole torture that night was done in the dark, but I remember a few faces. I saw Meli Bainimarama, Driti, and Frank Bainimarama. I have been arrested under the order of Ului Mara three times.

2) What do you think the Mara revelations do for the cause of human rights abuse in Fiji?

Mara proves that what we have been saying since 2006 has been right. Up until today, people have been abused and tortured in military installations under the directions of the Commander.
He can provide insight to these tortures. I wonder when Sakiusa Rabaka had died, how such a brutal murder could not have changed their heart's ferocious need to hurt others.

Fiji agreed in 2010 with the United Nations Human Rights Council when she was reviewed under the Universal Periodic Review, that it would respect the Human Rights of its citizens, end the PER and move Fiji towards parliamentary democracy soon. We are now reporting that Fiji's dictator has been arresting and abusing people, and has lied to the UN Human Rights Council.

3) Mara says Bainimarama ought to be charged ... what do you think?

I am of the opinion that all people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. All people have rights and need to be guaranteed the best options and assurance of the Law and courts.  The current status of play in Fiji where military organised beatings, torture and intimidation go hand in hand with a military infiltrated judicial system which may not be a reasonable process for Mara to return to. He is better off in Tonga.

All individuals who participated in arrests and abuses need to be charged under the law. And justice needs to be seen. RFMF soldiers have been arresting people, and a few too many have died, since 2000.

All the current henchmen of the military council who carry out torture and abuse in the name of the State, need to now seriously consider their personal convictions. They will only answer to the people and their God in the end.

4) Mara says he wants forgiveness. Do you forgive him?

Roko Uluilakeba Mara can be assured that I have forgiven him and all involved in the arrest, beatings and traumatic experiences I faced. No person should ever face this again or be made to feel unsafe in any nation by the State, especially. Mara should be rest assured that I do not hold ill feelings against him.

Mara should now see the benefit to helping lead Fiji into a peaceful transition into democracy. He can still redeem himself and his family's name by turning to Fiji and his network of traditional followers and discussing peaceful methods to returning this nation to a democracy.

All people see justice in different ways. Some need to have others taken to court, some need a reconciliation commission. but the fact is, this nation needs to determine how they want to move forward.

As I said, I refuse to believe that the murderer of Sakiusa Rabaka following orders of the Military Council in 2007, which I believe included Driti, Mara and Bainimarama, should face justice and be put in jail. I think Mara and Bainimarama have to see themselves as the reason for why Saki was brutally tortured, which led to his death. Mara should seek more forgiveness for this.

For soldiers to say that they were "just following orders" is no longer acceptable.
USA jailed those who were involved in Abhu Graib.
Australia presently interogating soldiers about an incident in Afghanistan and I think 2 soldiers will go to jail for that.
So all you Fijian soldiers, this is no longer an excuse.
You are either "for human rights" or you are "against" it.
MAKE the RIGHT CHOICE if you want to avoid jail.
People destined for Jail are Vuaka, his son, Rokoura, Naliva, Aziz.
They are definitely going to jail, the only question now is whether they sould be issued with the Death Penalty!
These bastards deserve to HANG for Treason.

Watch out abusers in Fiji Army and Police the World is watching.

QUOTE

"There are examples around the world where there have been truth and reconciliation processes where there have been investigations and troops, perpetrators have been held to account. So I think the officers within the Fijian army and it may well be a very small group who are perpetrating these abuses now need to start looking over their shoulders, because when - all despot regimes fail eventually everywhere eventually and no doubt this one will fail eventually and then there will be a day of reckoning and then they will be accountable to the law."

@ sad eyes 1143 am
I believe that Ului Mara is indeed contrite and acknowledges his wrong doing.
However, has he denounced any coup as been unacceptable ?
I don't think so because he still believes that his reasons behind the coup, were correct !
His worry now is, only that Frank and others have steered away from their original stated goal.
The concept of taking over an "Elected Government " , it seems from what he is saying, still appeals to him !
And that is Sedition in advance I suggest !
And that is unacceptable in anyway and at any level.

As for forgiveness !
Forgiveness is not to make the perpetrator feel better, it's to release the victim or victims !

The Families of those murdered and of those tortured, ill treated and illegally detained and the victims of those atrocities, should not be burdened by the rest of Society, with the expectation of having to forgive !

In time, forgive yes, but only to heal yourselves, while @ the same time, throwing away the key to their cells !

Mara, we are not hearing enough specifics from you yet. What are you waiting for? Also, when you talk (truth only please), be sure to include the money laundering aspect. How illgotten monies were moved out of the country under radar. Lastly, don't forget to include how you personally benefited and do tell EXACTLY why you are objecting publicly NOW after five years of being part of the problem.

Anonymous said...

One has to wonder if the perpetuators of these crimes against humanity even have souls. Surely people with a conscience could not carry out these acts nor be a party to them and sleep well at night for all of these years. How do they digest their food? Would the acid of guilt not eat their stomach lining away? Would their nights not be spent sleepless and haunted with the cries of despair from victims being tortured? How could they look their families in the eyes and not want to slink away? When they look into a mirror, do they see a human being looking back at them - or Satan himself?

Now, another victim has stepped forward bravely to speak about the atrocities. When will there be brave counterparts in the military that put down their weapons (please dismantle them first and remove ammo)and do the same? (No, not you Mara. You ran away and saved only yourself.)

Either you are part of the problem - or you are part of the solution. Everyone opposed to this strangling dictatorship can contribute in some way. But we need help from the International community. We stand as a people, bound and fettered, unarmed against an army that has made it all too clear that human life is meaningless to them.

These revelations have already shown us that if you speak up against the regime you are the "enemy." And we have witnessed what they do to the "enemy." The rest of us don't have access to a Tongan naval vessel standing by to rescue us. John Galt

Our traditional way of apologising and forgiveness has its place and i respect it, but in a modern world where interpersonal, national, international standards have evolved, Fiji must move with the times. I bilieve in the supremecy of laws at both individual, national and international levels. What is happening in Serbia where the mass murderer has just been arrested and is facing international justice is the way to go. If the Fiji coup criminals are not tried under Fiji judicial systems after return to democracy then they should be tried under international court for crimes against humanity.

For the coup culture to be eliminated those guilty of committing crimes must be punished appropriately and not forgiven under traditional Fijian ways. We must also try Rabuka equally because he was responsible for illegallly removing an elected Govt.

Jake says,

I believe and know that not all Fiji soldiers are bad. Those soldiers (snr in service) who had served under previous commanader either than Frank Bainimarama in their hearts know that the current killing & torturing carried out is not what they stand for. The problem is Frank has brain washed & bribed these soldiers to show allegiance to him instead of the institutions. I also firmly believe that the older and long service soldiers in their hearts have disassociated themselves from these torturing/killings. Its the new kids (coup promoted) officers like Naliva, Rokoua, Tuks, Qiliho etc who are tainting the institution build by our forefathers to protect our nation, people. Instead Frank has taught his elite boys how to kill/torture its own Fijian people for the name of claiming wealth, fame, greed & power.

This is what we will have & live with for the rest of our lives.

I don't think death penalty is the solution. To do that means stooping down to the same level those culprits have undertaken and we are not that low,as they are to do that. They need to face exactly what the law has laid down for them (not the illegal laws that they made)...............acceding to death penalty is not what the God of our beloved country wants. let them face the full brunt of the law and God will do the repaying for the covert and overt tears that they have caused, the lives that they have miserabled not to mention the innocent lives that were taken away-my heart goes out to the deceased families and all those that suffered inhumane treatment.Be rest assured that there is a time for everything...........E vakarerevaki na vakamosia na yalo ni tamata...........

Hey, Bud, you say that they "don't stand for that," but that is EXACTLY what they're doing!

If they have "disassociated themselves" from their actions then they are as guilty as guilty comes. Come on now -----.

Rugby: Fiji 'can't afford to send World Cup team'
5:30 AM Sunday May 29, 2011

Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, head of the Fijian Rugby Union, said a report presented to the union's board by team manager Pio Bosco Tikoisuva showed that F$5 million ($2.8 million) was needed to properly prepare a team for the tournament starting in September.

It is alledged that $700,000 p.a Salary Commodore Bainimarama pays himself and the other huge salaries are responsible for the blow out. Prime Minister John Key says a Fiji team will not be let into NZ regardless of finances. He said" This is the only was we can keep the illegal Governments feet to the fire"

GOD BLESS FIJI AND BRING THESE SOLDIERS TO THEIR KNEES FOR THEIR ACTIONS AND NN-ACTIONS TO THE PEOPLE OF FIJI.

Each soldier is guilty for lifting that gun and following bai's orders. They are all paid hush money and no one is able to go against Bai's orders.

5 years back a Private in the RFMF is paid as less (from $180 to $300) a fortnight) but after Bai came into power a Private is now paid as much as $800:00 a fortnight. Tell me this: how can a Private walk away from that? And imagine how the rank of Lance Corporal and above have received a huge bump in salary-all because to support this Coup that was carried out by Bai.

Now tell me this again: WHICH PRIVATE IN THE ARMY IS GOING TO LET GO OF THAT SALARY AND GO INTO THE OUTSIDE WORLD TO LOOK FOR SOMETHING DECENT? ANSWER: NO ONE-KEEP ON DOING WHAT BAI WANTS AND YOU GET A STEADY SALARY OF $800:00 A FORTNGIHT.

NO WONDER, THIS COUNTRY IS LIVING IN DEBT BECAUSE THE FORTNIGHTLY SALARY FOR THE MILITARY ALONE IS IN MILLIONS INCLUDING THE ILLEGAL MINISTERS.

These doldiers cannot let go of that salary because they are saying its God's wil they have that salary-but little do they know that they are the very ones robbing this country and its people of its coffers-NICE SOLDIERS OF FORTUNE.

A man once said: KEEP YOUR SOLDIER'S STOMACH FULL AND KEEP THEIR POCKETS FILLED WITH CASH AND THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAY "NO" TO WHATEVER ORDER YOU GIVE THEM.

Only God knows the deceitfulness of these soldiers in following the wrong orders from the wrong Commander.

Solders-your Commander in J\Chief is coming back soon (JESUS) and he is the one who you should be more faithful to-NOT BAINIMARAMA.

MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL-AND THE SOLDIERS OF FIJI HAVE FALLEN INTO THAT TRAP ALREADY.

AN UNJUST MAN CANNOT FBE THE SAVIOUR OF THIS COUNTRY-WE NEED HONEST,EDUCATED AND HUMBLE PEOPLE TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY AND ONE THAT IS FAITHFUL TO HIS GOD.

FOR ULUI HE IS AS MUCH GUILTY IN TAKING PART IN THIS COUP BECAUSE HE SHOULD KNOW THAT ANY COUP IS EVIL AND WILL ALWAYS CAUSE PEOPLE OF ANY COUNTRY TO END THEIR LIVES, END THEIR POSSESSION OF PROPERTY, AND END THEIR FREEDOM. COUP IS ALWAYS WRONG BECAUSE ITS EVIL.

As a Christian in this country, it says in the Bible, it is wrong to do evil-and COUP IS EVIL. For those that have carried out Coup in this country and prayed to god to help them-God was not helpinh you because SATAN was right by your side helping you think that God was answering your prayer for that COUP. ANY COUP IS EVIL-and you will answer to that all COUP MAKERS!

For Fiji to come out of this evil stage it is in-LET ALL PASTORS IN ALL CHURCHES FAST AND PRAY TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE AND SEEK THIS GOD ERNESTLY AND SINCERELY FOR ONE MONTH-ALLOW HIM TO SHOW HIS POWER IN THIS COUNTRY TO LIFT THIS EVIL FROM OUR COUNTRY.

This may sound funny to any person in this country and even to a Pastor who may be reading this but the only way to lift this evil is through PRAYER, HUMBLENESS AND SEEKING THE LORD IN ERNEST PRAYER FOR ALL THE LEADERS OF CHURCHES IN THIS COUNTRY AND THE RIGHTEOUS CHRISTIANS OF THIS COUNTRY.

TO ALL CHRISTIANS-lets forget about eating and drinking and living in a luxurious life-style for a period of time and call on this GOD AND ASK HIM TO OVERCOME THE ENEMY WITH HIS POWER AND MIGHT-not your human power and might -BUT GOD'S POWER AND MIGHT. HE IS A MIGHTY GOD AND CAN OVERCOME THE ENEMY-ONLY IF WE CHRISTIANS IN THIS COUNTRY WILL HUMBLE OURSELVES, PRAY, FAST AND SINCERELY ASK HIS INTERVENTION IN THIS COUNTRY.

IF YOU ARE CHRISTIAN-STAND UP, PRAY, FAST AND ASK GOD FOR FORGIVENES AND SINCERELY SEEK HIS FACE FOR THE NEXT MONTH.

ONLY IN GOD IS THERE POWER AND JUSTICE.

We cannot overcome the enemy with another Coup-but THROUGH GOD'S POWER AND MIGHT.

PASTORS AND CHRISTIANS OF THIS COUNTRY FIJI-PLEASE COME TOGETHER IN JUNE AND PRAY, FAST AND HUMBLE YOURSELVES IN GOD'S FACE TO OVERCOME THIS EVIL IN THIS COUNTRY.

DO NOT HANDLE THE ENEMY PHYSICALLY BUT HANDLE IT SPIRITUALLY-ITS THE ONLY WAY TO OVERCOME.

Judges Gates, Pryde, Shameem. They were all wrong.
How can educated people be so wrong?
How could they support a coup?
Why didn't they form a Party and campaign against SDL?
A coup is always wrong. We must always listen to the people and the only fair way to do that is to "form a Party and Campaign".
Therefore I believe all these who "aided and abetted " the coup must recieve some form of punishment for stealing what was not theirs.

Sa levu sara ga na talk foolish but nothing going [No Action].

To all soldiers - To continue make excuses that you are just following orders is dumb.

To all Senior Soldiers: You need action now. We need to remove the cords of oppression. We need to free Fiji and remove media control. You have to act justly and righteous. We cannot be seen to be praying without action.
When you do this you will go down in the history of this nation as courageous and honorable. Do the honorable thing- DESTROY CORRUPT UNJUST AND SELF-RITEOUS AUTHORITATIVE LEADERS.
