A Coupfourpointfive ode to the events of the week!

Sere Kali : ‘Mara sa Tiko- i –Toga’

Ni Vakarorogo na Veiwakani
Ko Mara sa Tikoitoga
Vanua Nacolase me lomani
O Kapaiwai sa vanayaliyali

Na mataivalu ni Viti sa Bai-ni- marama
Curu mai  na qaqa  mai Toga ra moce na yadra
Sau mada mai na manua
Botea na yalayala ni vanua me vueti Lutunauga

Ratu Bose volavola ki Lakeba

Ra moce lolo na kukuwalu
Lagakali na Rosi Damu

Isa Viti sa vaka ivei!
Sa dro o ravouvou me da mei cei?

Editor's Note: Here's an English translation.

Hear me my brethrens
Mara is in Tonga (pun on Colonel Tikoitoga name)
The Kadavu Islands are to be forgiven (Tikoitoga is from Kadavu and Frank's wife Mary is also from Kadavu)
Kapaiwai's (Mara) mast head has vanished (vanayaliyali - a name for his great ancestor, Mara Kapaiwai of Bau)

The Fiji Army is a fence for the ladies (Bainimarama)
The warriors from Tonga enters, yet the Fiji Navy sleeps
Their navy is powerful like of old
They crash our Fijian fences to rescue their kin Mara (Lutunauga) loke at the Battle of Kaba
Ratu Bose wrote to Lakeba (a pun on an old Laun love song)
Sleep well the Kukuwalu of Bau (an allusion to our President and Baun Tongan blood)
The sweet smelling lagakali and red rose of Bau ( a verse in Fijian Famous song 'Bau na yanuyanu' )

Lament Fiji what is happening!
Our Prince has escaped where do I belong?

Ahaa, summed up well! The Fiji army should run a circus, they'd get more laughs than the real thing. They might earn a few more pennies. But they are on the road to perdition, no legitamacy, no crebility. The laughing stock of the world.

You jumped the gun C4.5-i was about to do a lemntation along the same lines but good one. Anyway the sailing away of Roko Ului to Tonga matanisiga reminds one of a similar episode in Fijian History. That is when the warriors of Bau tried their darndest to caputure a relative of Roko Ului-Ratu Mara Kapaiwai.Numerous attempts to catch him failed as most of the time he would mount his own single attacks on the Bauans & their supporters-when they thought they had him he would slip away in his boat and they only thing they would see was the sail of boat as it cut thru the waves hence the name"Kapaiwai" When they did finaly did catch him it was by pure deceit - in a concerted effort they lied to him to return to Bau where all was forgiven. When he finally returned he was captured and finnaly ended up in the gallows. The warriors of Ra as the tukuni goes came to Bau for the burial and stole his body, substituting it with another. The people of Ra say he is buried in their lands.Taukei NI Mate

Okay, help me out here fellow bloggers. Is this Tikoitoga (from the military hierarchy) saying this?? And JUST WHAT is it he is saying?I didn't realize his military prowess included poems. This evening's blogs have been way "out there" and I am having difficulty making any sense of anything.I have an excellent idea. I need a gin and tonic to help me see through this blur. No,seriously, what is really being said here???

Regrets

Regrets
I have moved past this point,
but I haven't
I have faught hard and won,
but I haven't
Yesterday is behind,
but it isn't
and I justify this matter with a reason.

The past is a shadow that leads me,
and with it is the sorrow it feeds me.
I find hard dealing with what is easy,
and I justify this matter with a reason.

I have resolved the situation,
but I haven't
I have forgiven and forgotten,
but I haven't
My past is behind,
but it isn't
and I justify this matter with a reason.

The tasks I did accomplish,
versus decisions I failed to take.
They haunt me
and taunt me,
tormenting me till I break.

And so I have moved past this point successfuly.
I have fought hard and won excessively.
Yesterday is behind
and it is,
and I only regret the regretting that I did

Anonymous, e buli na sere kali because it was and will always be the way of the Pacific people. Unless you never knew this songs were they way we grounded ourselves in telling a story that had to be remembered, now we have recorders-you may think that this is a crap process! Its in our blood-maybe you were never taught or told of the what the white man calls "legends" "myths" the simple fact is-its something spontaenous for someone of us. It doesn't make fun of the situation but it does take a way a certain "pain", its a Tukuni not the crap you hear now on Fiji Radios! Guess what-in some of these were told of things to come, why beyond its time, in the bible they call it "Prophesy" in the Christian world they call these- tukuni & storys Evil(thats their opinion)!Sorry whats spontaenous to me is inherited from my forefathers. Tie a bunch of leaves around my wrists and legs and i will dance, the mekes of the ancients, from the creation of the world, to the comings & settling of Viti's! Its just a God given talent-you might just find it too difficult to understand in this space age-as you wear you neckties and 3 piece suits! God bless the gifted writers of Sere Kalis & tukuni tellers! We are a dying breed since we became "civilised"! Our tukunis are now lost some for ever, our mekes are just good enough to fool the tourists-need i say more!Taukei NI Mate

Sega ni qai yaga ena gauna oqo na sewrekali. It won't change anything. Qo sa vaka eda lesu tale tiko kina gauna ni vakatevoro. Sa rarama mai na vuravura, kua ni dreti keda tale tiko i muri na serekali. It is time to look to the Almighty God who is the only one able to free us from the astrocities we are going through.
