Fiji police still looking to charge over Mara fishing saga

No word yet of New Zealander Anthony Fullman who was expected to have been deported from Fiji last night.

Fullman said himself he was going to be deported yesterday.

He told someone else who was also being questioned by Fiji police over the Roko Ului Mara fishing saga he was being  put on a plane back to New Zealand last night or this morning.

Fullman is a close friend of Mara's - the two have been described by close family friends as 'blood brothers'. It's believed his number was found on Mara's phone.

An Estonian fisherman who lives in Suva, Risto Harmat, is meanwhile still in police custody, more than 90 hours after he was taken in.

Harmat is believed to own the boat Mara was on when he said he got into trouble.

Family and friends say Harmat has been denied a lawyer and is allowed just two visitors. They are concerned for his well-being as the regime tries to identify and charge who exactly helped Mara who insists he was fishing when he ran into trouble.

Mara's relatives also continue to be grilled. One of them told us they are being followed everywhere and the police have seized their mobile phones and laptops since they were first taken in for questioning.
Relatives say they are being asked the same questions every day, primarily whether Mara planned his 'rescue' and if they were in the know.

They say the regime is determined to keep questioning until they've charged someone.

Family members being questioned say they are not mistreated by the Criminal Investigation Department even though the interrogation lasts from 9am until late at night. They say they are given food and water and have been allowed to take breaks.

Under the Public Emergency Decree, Fiji's security forces can detain anyone seen as a threat to national security for seven days without charging them.

Risto is being detained lucky not in the army barracks.
We will watch and see how they will go about this case.

they are just wasting time, money and energy,,,,,,,,,better transfer those resources to those living under the poverty line in Fiji....

For Fiji soldiers, no wonder they are backing Bainimarama because their wages exceeds those well educated pips sitting in offices!!!!!

They say he cares for the people, he only cares for himself and sees that those guarding him get gud wages so they dont liumuri:0 I nearly fought with an in-law, him full backing bainimarama up because he "CARES FOR ME AND MY FAMILY INCREASING MY WAGES"

So we are giving to FNPZ for our pension and these soldiers are getting increased pay from the money deducted from us thus there are controls now on FNPF money withdrawal!

The people detained are not threats to National Security as claimed-the whole purpose of this exercise is to frighten them so they could do and say what the Regime wants them to say, secondly its to intimidate and threaten Roko Ului with the message if " you don't shut up" your family & friends will live in FEAR & TERROR!
I am banking on Roko Ului to keep giving out information because sooner or later the governments overseas will see that this Regime has over used its USER BY DATE!

@Anon 12:50 - I agree 100% with your comments. These greedy idiots are just concerned about their ill gotten payrises from Bainimarama who is buying their loyalty. He doesn't care sh&t for your in-law or his family...all he cares about is you keeping your gun trained on the citizens of this country while he raids the coffers of the nation for himself and his idiot followers. These aren't army anymore....they're paid mercenaries and the UN should seriously look at their policies of hiring such idiots!!

there really is no point in questioning all these people. the level of need-to-know will differ from one person to the next depending on their part in the operation. all the police are doing now is a face-saving measure.
imagine, everytime we beat tonga in rugby from hereonin, they will say, "never mind, our small navy team beat your much vaunted navy team!"
the US have the Navy Seals...Fiji has the Navy No-sili team.

Olei....what is wrong with this ulukau fat shit.....like IRB can order John Key to let this losers into NZ. Like please...stop making fiji look like a stupid tin pot country. That's the trouble when you take idiots like mosese who are only good for parades and put them in charge. No idea about international diplomacy, and simple rules of state..so embarrasing. And another thing, threatening to pull out of next year's games is not going to work..who gives a flying fuck if Fiji plays or not. Simply..there are plenty talented fijians who can play rugby....the thugs only want to put their goons forward to play..

FRU now seeks answers from IRB
Share
The Fiji Rugby Union is now seeking answers from the International Rugby Board on whether it will allow the NZ government to dictate and enforce which players will make the Fiji 15's team to the Rugby World Cup in September.

FRU Chairman, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga said the NZ government is directly interfering in the Fiji team selection and is stopping Fiji from sending the best team through the travel sanctions.

There is an audio file attached to this story. Please login to listen.

Colonel Tikoitoga said the IRB should take the necessary action now.

Colonel Tikoitoga also said that Fiji may not send the National 7s team to the NZ and Australia 7s next year if the travel sanctions remain in place.

When an armed home invader comes into your house, ties your hands and feet, muffles your mouth, you have just become a hostage. You are hog-tied. He has use of his limbs and mouth. HE also has the weapon and it is pointed directly at your head if you don't do and behave exactly as you're told. Usually there are also family members that are dear to you that have been taken hostage as well. If they don't do what the criminal wants, well then, you'll pay. If you don't do what the criminal wants, well then, they'll pay.

We see this in the movies all of the time. We read about it in the news. We should be able to identify it readily enough. It is us. John Galt

FSC quiet on the payment distribution
Tuesday, May 24, 2011

The Fiji Sugar Corporation is still silent on when the 4th cane payment of $6.54 per tonne for the last season will be paid out to farmers following the Sugar Industry Tribunal approval.

When contacted this morning, the Corporation Head-office in Lautoka declined to comment while farmers desperately wait for the payment to prepare for this year’s crushing season.

Meanwhile FBC news believes the total sum needed to make the payment will be released by the government as the Sugar Cane Growers Fund cannot provide any further loans to the FSC.

The Fund Board Chairman, John May has already said a little over eight million dollars is still owed by the FSC which was used for the 4th cane payment in the 2009 crushing season.

May says half of this loan is to be reimbursed during this crushing season while the balance will be paid next year while the government will pay all interest.

The Sugar Cane Growers Council is also unaware when the payment will be made.

Anonymous said...

Can anyone inform the republic of estonia that risto there citizen is being violated with human rights laws and this bullshit decree.Estonia just have to shake the tree and get a frigate and simply 3 fighter jets over Suva.
Than will see AG and Baini run for shelter.
Just blow the guard room the rest will be done by the people

As history before us,when Fiji natives burnt down American settlers all they needed was to show off a battleship frigate and a simple threat to the government of the day saw them ceed Fiji to britian.Today it can be repeated because the government is going down the same road ,next will be ceeded to our nation sponsors.

On FRU Chairman - and this is coming from one the supposed elite officers (a notable comment made by RUM of FRU Chairman and Kaloumaiwai being the 2 most learned Senior offices @ Delainabua to date).....can't blame just highlights one of the major obstacles of a fair count of us fijians...can be good on paper but the application is always a grey area and or questionable. Man alive typcial Fiji Military mentality too much green (uniforms) and brown (Kava) consumed!!!!!!!!

Tikoitoga is an idiot.
Didn't he know that this rule was in place for the last 5 years.
He and Vuaka should have made sure that the top rugby players were not in the Army. Its amazing how well educated people join the army and become absolute Dickheads with no sense of logic. Do they even listen to what they are saying?
