Military departures sure sign of rejection of Bainimarama

Why did me ol’ mates (though  2006 coup loyalists) Land Force Commander Brigadier Pita Driti and Commanding Officer Third Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Tevita Mara reject Commodore Bainimarama and all his works?
Now that Mara is in Tonga I am hoping he joins me in bringing to the world the grave injustices of a Fiji  military regime out of control.

I agree with Professor Brij Lal’s assessment on this senior regime leadership crisis that they were ‘unhappy at the way things have gone’ and that ‘things have not gone to the original script.’ (Radio Australia Pacific Beat, 05 May 2011).

Since Bainimarama became Commander RFMF in February of 1999 (over 12 years now) five Land Forces Commander that have served under him have rejected his leadership. I totally agree with Lt Col Mara's assessment of 14 May 2011 that  advice given by many senior officers to the Commander even prior to the 2006 coup to not politicise the military had fallen on the deaf ears of a man swollen with power.

Four of these Land Force Commanders  (Driti, myself, Saubulinayau and Tuatoko) excluding the fifth, Naivalurua, have now been hounded out of the military by Bainimarama.

All for what? So that he could play politics, wielding the military as his instrument of coercion and power.

I had drawn the powers-that-be to this situation on the 13 Jan 2006 - the day of my suspension from the Fiji Military.

Land Force Commanders are chosen by their proven ability to command at least one or more of the Fiji military’s major local units or overseas peacekeeping units and have attended both Staff College and the senior Defence College.

These Land Forces Commanders who've fallen out with Bainimarama were all highly experienced and highly trained professionals at the top of their careers.

They were cashiered because in their full professional assessment during the various stages of Bainimarama’s illusionary leadership they had stood for the integrity of the RFMF as an institution and had witnessed the deception and aberrations of a military leader who had politicized the RFMF.

It is time that my fellow officers both in the regular forces and territorial forces stood up and voice an end to all of this nonsense of the RFMF in politics and  being the ‘guardians’ and ‘saviours’ of the people. Our nation is bleeding.

  8. Just one common thread linking you guys who fell out with Bainimarama and that is you were all in cahoots with him when you were in command of troops in cruelly supressing Fijians. Its only when you were kicked out that you made noises.....but up to now your statements have all sounded sour grapes because you have done bugger all practical to eliminate Vore.

Why didn't you topple or assasinate him while you had power, resources and position to do so?? One thing stands out you lacked the courage when you had the oppotunity. Good for you Baledrokadroka to bleat from the safety of Aussie while Fijians continue to suffer under your former mate's dictatorship.... you commaned the battalion that brutalised Fijians, hope this is eroding your self pride and conscience....up to now all we have had from you are pompous statements, but nothing concrete leading to Bainimarama's elimination dead or alive. What are you doing through your contacts in the military and police to assasinate Bainimarama????

Until you rescue your reputation and mana with us by doing something of practical benefit to us we will continue to harbour our resentment and distrust of you.

  9. Goof to always read articles from Mr. Baledrokadroka and he has dne wel for himself in Australia. Like Lara, he is also staying away from ther Commodore or he will file some false charge against him. Now what next? All this talk will lead to what-who will make the first moce-its is so exciting-like a CHESS game...anyways-I will pray for both of you guys-one in Tonga and one in Asutralia because I also once worked with both you guys once-and only God knows both your hearts to get Fiji back on the right track. And thanks to Coup 4.5 for bringing FRESH NEWS ALWAYS! Fiji Sun and Fiji Times-YOU GUYS ARE SO SLEEPY!

  12. This is a blog cite where one should not present one's credentials to brainwash the Kaiviti, because certain incidences of the past are unforgetable and painful to erase....especially the brutual manhandling of old Kaiviti man, women and children in Kalabu, assaults on Chiefs of Fiji and the GCC, takeover of the Qarase government etc.
Australia and NZ also know of these incidences and every single detail was recorded, documented and now archived.
It is also foolish and naive to present one's credentials on this blog, because one is susceptible to a credit check of whatever are displayed

All military personnel:past and present should and will be taken to task irrespective of the so called "change in allegiance".

It doesn't make any sense to the Kaiviti and the ordinary tax payer of Viti, neither it will change our perceptions because the pictures are getting clearer day day.

The one to lead the change in Viti is coming and will be known soon and should not have any military background what-so-ever....we have had enough.

In contrary to what Roko Ului has said: "I will lead Fiji back to democracy". He is already jumping the gun and please understand - the Kaiviti are not stupid.

    God Bless Viti

  13. Vinaka vakalevu Kemudrau,

The 80-90+ majority of people in Fiji wholeheartedly agree with you. Leave politics to Politicians and Military are to return to their barracks. Enough is enough!! Bainimarama should go!! All his promises in the last 5yrs have gone to naught. Simply, the man does not have nothing! nothing! Fiji is in a complete mess. The military are no longer the RFMF but simply bush-guerillas. You c them you know, collar-up, heavy dark glasses and discipline no longer rules but FB's ruler markings.

C'mmon Fiji, let us stand up...... Ratu Apenisa and Ratu mai Verata, meet now and mobilise your people. Turaga na Tui Ca'au, isa....... a cava tale se waraki. Dou cakacaka vata, kacivi Viti, na Vanua kei na Lotu, da tayabe ena domo dua kei na vakabauta, ena bale na bai kei Jerico. Fiji People, let us stand up and be counted. Oh come on, Jone. Talk about opportunism. Nothing from you for months while you sit there on your hands with Brig Lal and Jon Fraenkel and the rest of your rag tag gang. Then when Mara moves (without your knowledge) you're all on the same side? Sorry,it won't wash. You and Brij and now Tevita will be in exile for a long time. In the meantime, Fiji moves forward.

  15. I truly think that it is time that a handful of Loyalist Soldiers went to the Chiefs and asked them to reconvene and appoint a New President and Vice President so they in turn can appoint a neutral Caretaker Prime Minister and Cabinet who in turn again, will suggest a New Military Commander.

All this can be achieved in accordance with the Court of Appeal Ruling of April the 9th. 2009 and under the 1997 Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land.

But someone has to be brave enough to take the 1st. step !
The Soldiers need to know that they won't be charged with mutiny and that they will be following Legal Orders and the Chiefs in turn need to know that they will have the protection of the Soldiers.

Whoever makes the 1st. move, will go down in history and the people will no doubt support them.

Aiyaz and Frank and their supporters must be arrested and brought before the Courts.

  35. Vinaka Kemudrau.

To some of the anonymous bloggers here still bringing back the 2000 Kalabu issue may be because your relatives or friends were hurt for breaking the law as clearly stated in the constitution of Fiji which was very much alive at that time, do you think that because they were your relos and they were indigenous they should be spared the rod? You, the people writing here about Kalabu, if you really believed in law and order and you respect the 1997 constitution of Fiji, why didn't you advise your relos at Kalabu not to do what they did? Also, if your relative is in the army now why don't you give him/her a call and provide some advise? Grow up and be mature in your thinking because what happened at Kalabu and what is happening now are totally two different issues? If you don't understand what respect for the law means and what it means to be a good corporate citizen, try and talk to one those who was hurt in Kalabu. Be a proud Kaiviti who believes in law and order within a constitutional democracy and also the motto,"Rerevaka na Kalou ka doka na Tui". God bless Fiji.

  36. @Anonymous 9:33
"respect the Constitution", you must be joking!
JB had no respect for the Constitution.
If there is a crime committed, it is the job of the Police to investigate and round up people.
It is not the job of the army to be the police and also dish out judgement in the streets.
JB and his 3FIR were thugs. (They still are).
The problem with the Army is they don't know their job description.
The Police also did not know their job description ( Most likely due to their boss being an ex-Military person and was confused himself. So much for "militarisation of the Civil Service").
Like Butadroka once said "Poultry is poultry and politics is politics. Don't mix the two together"
Army is army. Police is police. Don't get mixed up.
JB was wrong and he should have been prosecuted for breaking and entering;assault and causing griveous bodily harm etc etc,
He is now reaping what he sowed.

  38. to anonymous @9.33am - you've missed the point like many of your nuthead friends posting here. Please understand that Fiji has been left to the dogs with all sorts of manouvering by men in green ever since Rabuka's coup. The military and its thugs have been at the heart of every political turmoil in Fiji. That is a fact that history will record. Now for military men (current and former)to turn around and tell Fiji to do what is right and get back to democracy when their hands have blood is a plain act of hypocracy. That is why many posting here are not convinced at all about what they say. Their act of thuggery to Fiji citizens is of yesterday only and many are still grieving it.......so go chill!

  39. I applaud the good Colonel for speaking out and Rokolui for doing the same. Glad that you came to your senses at some point. However having said this i certainly do not want to see any of the old faces in power again. Notice how Mr. Mara is already giving his political speech " i will lead Fiji to democracy". Who are you to lead us? You were supporting Frank through and through until Frank decided that you were a liability. Guess what amongst people of dishonor this is what usually happens the bigger snake ends up eating the smaller one. How can any Fijian in his or her right mind believe anything you say? Being a soldier you should have understood that the Army nowhere in the world has been successful at running governments. You are trained to only look at the Black or the White. Running a country means looking at the middle which is grey. You can’t go my way or the highway. This simple training of yours discounts soldiers from doing anything worthwhile in nation building. I propose that all those who are young reasonably well educated and do not have a family history of politics should now network and form a party to prepare for the next election. If they should win, the first thing to be done is disband the Army. We do not need armed thugs who live of our hard earned sweat and do nothing but plan coups to ruin this country. All capable soldiers who have a bit of education should be drafted into the Police force and the Army budget should go to the police in addition to the current Police budget. The rest should be given some land, a spade and a small loan to start increasing our food production. We do not need the army.

Throwing around the taxpayers money like it was his fathers and borrowing like there's no tomorrow to fund his ego trip. It takes moves like what Ului has done to cut through the media censorship and get the people thinking and talking which is what needs to happen for them to see the truth.

  49. NEWS FLASH!!!!

Unmanned U.S. drone overhead has picked up signs of floating debris just off Beqa Island. Appears to be broken bamboo.

Victims sighted in water and being circled by sharks. No, wait! Sharks are saluting with fins and appear to be swimming away. Professional courtesy, no doubt.

    Another NEWS FLASH!!!

Real estate is suddenly booming in Kadavu where sandcastles are appearing all over the beaches! Already the first prospect appears to have arrived! No, wait. That man looks familiar with his red plastic bucket and Bula shirt! Are those tears running down his face? Is that a new building technique being utilized as he is stamping his feet into the sand while simutaneouly jumping up and down?

Turbulence from below is forcing drone to have to swing West.

    NEWS FLASH!!!

Drone has just sighted a lone male figure on a small island. Good he is not alone. Appears to be a large convoy of pigs headed his way. Eminant rescue does not appear to be necessary since he will have companionship. He appears to be drinking champagne and eating. Shielded from sun by what appears to be a golden parachute. Perhaps just another eccentric tourist. But, no. Wait. Anchored just beyond the coconut palms is a yacht. Drone is going in for a closer buzz. Cannot make out the name of boat. Strange characters but the port identity says, "Hong Kong."

  53. TO ALL OF YOU WHO STILL HOLD THOSE GRUDGES ON ROKO ULUI, DRITI AND JONE BALEDROKADROKA AND HIS MILITARY PERSONNEL 3FIR BATTALION IN YEAR 2000 PLEASE STAY BACK IN 2000 AND ENJOY CRYING UNTIL THE TRUTH COME TO YOU. IN FACT THE TRUTH IS HERE IN 2011 AND WANTING TO CONFESS TO ALL OF US WHETHER WE WERE IN KALABU OR NOT BUT FEW OF YOU ARE ROCKING THE BOAT.

ROKO ULUI AND ALL THE 3FIR BATTALLION PERSONNEL ARE COMING FORWARD TO THE CHIEFS, VANUA AND LOTU TO MAKE IT RIGHT TO ALL OF US SO PLEASE WAIT FOR THAT GOOD TIME AND BE READY TO RECEIVE AND ACCEPT THEM WITH OUR OPEN AND LOVING CHRISTIAN ARMS, HUG AND KISS THEM WHEN THEY ARRIVED, GIVE THEM NEW CLOTHES, REDRESS AND FORGIVE THEM,FORGET THE PAST AND PREPARE FOR THE FEAST AND LET US EAT, DANCE AND BE MERRY TILL THE BREAK OF DAWN. YOU MIGHT ASK ME WHAT HAPPENED TO VOREQE AND KAIYUM, SHALL WE FORGIVE THEM TOO?. THE ANSWER IS, NO! BECAUSE THEY WANT TO FIGHT TILL THE END. SEND THEM TO KINGDOOM COME WITH THEIR KNOWN STOOGES ESCORTED BY THE MATCHSTICKS BRIGADE.

BANIMARAMA APPROVED HIS SALARY TO $700,000 AND kAIYUM $650,000 PER YEAR FOR TELLING US LIES AND ALL THOSE BULLSHITS GOVENMENT PLANS TO FOOL US AROUND WITH. THERE IS NO MONEY IN THE RESERVE BANK OF FIJI TO PAY FOR GOVERNORS, WHITESIDE AND MALAKIA NAYAGA AND HIS STAFFS. IMF BOSS, STRAUSS KAHN IS IN PRISON AND SO AS OUR RBF GOVERNORS SOON.

The 2000 issues are not grudges. These are unresolved crimes which need to be investigated before we can really move forward after Vore goes down and an internationally recognised caretaker govt is in place. Speight and crowd have been investigated and convicted. case closed. The military murderers and abusers also committed crimes and must pay. Baledrokadroka and Ului are persons of interest and should ans. People were shot dead and killed in kalabu and other places. The killers are still at large.
    The CRW killings are unresolved.
Ului and Baledrokadroka and Voreqe are in the know so they must ans.
Also keep all the military out of the Caretaker govt and we need to look at an extended police force after dismantling the army.
People were murdered so forget the forgiveness bullshit.
Publish this and dont be biased C4.5!!

  56. RE: Anon, 3:09pm. Park your christianity at the door. You speak with a forked tongue. Either it is forgiveness to all - and they walk away yet again, clothed and fed by the very people they deserted and trampled upon - or - it is equal justice for all.

Forgiveness is one thing (you do that in your own private heart), getting away with the crime is another (that's public accountability). It sounds to me like you were a part of Fiji's problem in the past. Were you ONE OF THEM???

God is the One who commanded that man set up courts of law to hold one another accountable. There are no free rides in life and you pay for them one way or another. John Galt

  61. Its amazing to note how qualified the past COS are. But what qualifications does Bainimarama has? It would be interesting to see how many Military related degrees he has.
For someone to disregard the advice of qualified people, is a sign of ignorance and stupidity.
I dont understand what criteria was used in selecting him to be the Commander when there were more senior and better qualified Officer's holding senior posts at QEB.
By the way, Bainimarama you will soon find yourself being George Speight's neighbour in Naboro. GS will surely have a good laugh.Hahahahaahaha!!!!!!
