Regime's new FRU board already accused of trying to line pockets

As if the fiasco over the travel bans isn't bad enough....

It looks as though members of the clean sweep new Fiji Rugby Union board are already putting their nose in the trough.

An insider has told Coupfourpointfive that not even a month into their tenure and the board is already wanting to be paid an allowance for each sitting.

We're told the last board was not paid such an honorarium.

A board member has also already claimed $300 for fuel to travel from Lautoka to Suva, for the first meeting, double what sources say the fuel would've cost him to get there.

Board members apparently get contra travel but this one who we choose not to name at this stage, filed an exorbitant $300 claim.

Those previously involved with the board say this is 'absolutely criminal' considering the FRU's money woes. Remember, the regime publicly lambasted the last board for its shortcomings and accused it of corruption and fraud.

Those previously involved with the board say it's telling to see new members  'milking the seed' and thinking they're entitled to do it when the FRU is  cash-strapped.

"This seems to be the Modus Operandi of that new breed of 'elite' that seems to have infested our society of late," says a former affiliate. "Having not had any or made any fortune of their own, they have found a very easy way of going about it: rip others off."

It's understood the board, which is now heavily dominated by military and chaired by Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, will be meeting twice a month.

The Rugby World Cup trials are meanwhile being held today in Suva. Yesterday, FASANOC's chair, Vidhya Lakhan, called for Fiji to boycott the games in New Zealand in September.

Many have already criticised Lakhan; today Coupfourpointfive would like to remind him that Commonwealth rules also bind Commonwealth sports participation regardless of membership.

And he should know this. As a sports administrator he should be appreciate the importance of rules and stick to them.

He should also remember that it was only last April that the Court of the Arbitration for Sports last April upheld the Fiji Commonwealth Games ban.

Lahkan and the National Olympic Committee had argued that politics and sport are separate, and that Fiji had a good case for appealing the decision.

At the time Lakhan said he couldn't understand why the appeal has been turned down. It seems, he still doesn't get it. Does he not understand English or is he just being deliberately obtuse?

  3. Three Cheers for Lakhan and a big Kaila!

When we are not at the World Cup, this will be the last straw for the people....who will not be able to avoid some realities in which case their brain matter must start to fire up.

As for Lakhan, he is either mighty stupid man or an excellent "counter revolutionary", in which case I take it all back old man......
might I say "wise old man"

  4. Surely they have a standard mileage rate and allowances that can be claimed, cut and dry, either legit or fraud !

As for "FRUs Money Woes", no problem and simply solved by transfering some of the Rugby TV advertising budget to the staff expenses account. TV One could then fill the space with extracts from the MIC show to cheer us all up !

  8. vidhya Lakhan does not know anything about rugby and should keep his nose on FASANOC matters only....for instance can he let us know how much fund FASANOC gets from the Olympic funds which could assist small federations like boxing, karate, taewkowando etc. to send a full strength team to the PG-2011....you should keep your nose there....also for your info all the best 30 likely players that are going to make the Fiji team to NZ for the world cup do not have any military background...except Yalayalatabua and Tonawai who are both unlikely to make the cut not because of their military background but simply due to their lack of skills and mental psychiatrist...

VIDHYA must learn to TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR CURRENT SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY...NZ BAN IS VERY SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND...YOU TAKE POWER BY THE BARREL OF THE GUN THEN PREPARE TO FACE THE CONSEQUENCES...THE RULE OF THE LAW MUST BE RESPECTED BY ALL CITIZENS OF A COUNTRY...GOD BLESS FIJI...

now the people will discuss around the tanoa for the next 3 months a come to a conclusion....
then they will seeth for a month....
then they will HATE for the next 3 years .. and for ever that we were not there.

  10. What does Lakhan think to overule the Commonwealth decision- Fiji's regime is illegal and two wrongs does not make one right- You can seperate the Sports from the coup as the people in the sports a also part and parcel of society which makes up this nation. He should change his thinking and accept that this government is ILLEGAL and cannot be accepted anywhere- only on Humantatian grounds other nations are lenient to us otherwise he shoul go and live with this regime in Utopia.

  12. M Tikoitoga is just trying his luck....At the end of the day he knows that not sending the Flying Fijians to NZ World Cup will have dire consequences on the regime....Think of it..No 15's team for W Cup...Majority of Fiji people gets upset...Emotion boils up in private and public..Public have negative feelings against regime....Regime out of the door...Tikoitoga does not have the balls to stop Flying Fijians from participating...

  13. tell us someting NEW.

  14. Well looks like they're in it for the money. $300 for fuel to drive from Ltka to Suva...kemuni!! What the hell is he driving?

  15. Mosese Tikoitoga is a graduate otain through his schooling years or undergone in service training to obtain whatever degree he has- His reasoning does not complement the opinion of a graduate from a university- The question, how does he think by writing to IRB can overule NZ decision- this is simple common sense and no matter where he tries, this government is ILLEGAL- coup deteat and cannot be accepted by democratically elected government. Anyway who gave him the authority to write to NZ when he is a product of the coup, opportunist, looking for opportunity to make himself known. What a pathetic situation to have someone of that calibre to lead 3FIR and FRU. What a sad day for Fijians who love rugby at heart and loving rugby spectators.DOOMS DAY FOR FIJI!!!!

  17. The Chinese might want to fund for our RWC campaign but surely on the condition that one of them coaches and one manages the team. That has been the trend anyway - they give the money and they follow it to here and get directly involved in its use...you know as receipients.

  21. Chinese LOVE to gamble. It's in their blood. There are alot of things that I treasure and love that are Chinese but this is not one of them. Right now, we are a cheap gamble to them. They are flush with money and are looking for places to "put it." Thanks to the AG and his cronies - we are in their line of sight, and no doubt because of the success of "criminal" Chinese elements that have found "safe harbor" here. (Yeah, you know I'm talking about YOU! You just bring your bribe money here to not be extradicted back to China and you're home for life, right?).

If we don't pay off, no loss to them really. They have money to burn.

In the meantime, the tentacles grow and reach out to all that can be sucked in. They are the lucky ones. They get sucked in for a share of the profit to suck the rest of us dry. THIS DOES NOT DESCRIBE ALL CHINESE! The ones I am referring to are a select few. Not our neighbors. Bigger. And I know who you are.

And they are not alone. we are circled by the sharks of the world that smell a kill and we are it!

We don't need to name them. We just need to recognize that until we stand united, we stand defeated. John Galt

  22. Lakhan's on regime's side because his karua Chodo who has really used his wife well is now on the opposing side. It's got nothing to do with the issue of rugby..it's just him using every opportunity to square things up with karua.

  25. It seems that Lakhan doesn't know the relationship betweem sport and politic. They are very much related and cannnot separate them. I recommend he studies sport before extending his term at FASANOC.

  27. Lakhan is a very good example of old farts trying to hold on to the leadership roles, it is there all across this country.

And then they lament the lack of experience and leadership amongst the young generation, how can there be experience when one was never given the opportunity in the first place?

As for his arrogant self serving advise that the FRU and FJ to boycott the RWC? What about Lakhan lead by example and boycott the mini games first. Do it for FJ.
