Sources: Fiji businessman stopped at US airport over alleged terrorist cells

IN LEAGUE: Bainimarama and Khaiyum with the Arab league.

Aslam Khan
Intelligence sources say the CEO of Vodafone, Aslam Khan, was frisked and detained in a US airport on the suspicion he may be financing terrorist cells.

Intel officers say the information prompted them to conduct an internal investigation and to report some astonishing revelations.

Sources now claim a huge sum of money is moving around Fiji naming Aslam Khan and others (including his wife and FBC CEO Riyaz Kaiyum, who just returned from buying TV equipments for FBCL from Cuba) as moving monies in and out of Fiji.

Certain ministers in the Cabinet and a few Reserve Bank employees are also accused of moving monies out whenever they travel out of the country.

Intelligence sources say the biggest threat, though, comes from dealings approved by Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum for “certain” individuals to VVIP transit through Nadi International Airport to the US, Australia, New Zealand and Europe. The privileged few are taken through VVIP lounge and without any proper checking.

Sources say they've released this controversial information to warn the US, AUS, NZ and EU that Fiji is a potential carrier of terrorists who might get into their country with the help of the illegal regime and that the above people may well be moving large amounts of monies that might have come from links to world terrorist cells.

In September last year, a newspaper in the United Arab Emirates, The National, reported the Arab League plans to open a regional office in Fiji. The announcement came after an endorsement by the League of the UAE initiative to promote co-operation between Arab countries and Pacific Island states.

Fiji is among ten Pacific countries that has established links with the Arab League, including the Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu & Vanuatu. The UAE has provided funding for a US$50 million aid programme covering 14 countries, many of them suffering from the effects of climate change and often have small economies with rising populations and dwindling resources.

Late last year Voreqe Bainimarama said Fiji has been present in the Arab region since 1978. Fijian peacekeeping troops served in the South of Lebanon from 1978 to 2002 while 300 Fijian troops currently serve with the UN in Sinai, a mission they have served in since 1982.

Fiji troops are also the only UN blue helmets in Iraq since 2004 with a 221 strong contingent, as well as a presence in Sudan and previously Kuwait and Kurdistan.

Bainimarama told FBC some troops even speak fluent Arabic. Despite this, however, Fiji did not develop nor pursue formal political, economic and cultural relations with the Arab countries until now. He says Fiji has now taken steps to join the Non-Aligned Movement and does not want to fall into "predetermined political spheres of influence or have predetermined alignments".

Yesterday, Investment Fiji Chair, Adrian Sofield, said more than two hundred million dollars is expected to be brought into Fiji from various investments over the next twelve months.

He said they have been receiving a lot of interest from investors and that the 2011 TFL Prime Minister’s Exporter of the year awards theme “Taking Fiji to the World” recognizes the many new markets opening up for Fiji and the reforms taking place.

Intelligence sources say the current investigation is continuing with large areas to cover as some intel personnel are doing extra work to uncover scams and threats but say the information released to Coupfourpointfive has been done so in a bid to let the world know and for it to take measures to protect their country.

Fiji government prostituting itself. Mr Khaiyum involved in money laundering and the clueless dumb army has no idea what is happening right under their nose, even inside their own tent (so to speak).
If the real Police were allowed to do their job and assisted by Interpol, we could put a stop to this.
But as it is the dumb Army runs the Police. The dumb army running every department in government. Well what do we expect? Corruption now worse than ever before.
And it will get worse if we don't put a stop to Bainimarama and Khaiyum.

Kemuni na sotia, ni yadra tiko. Qo sa sega ni gauna ni moce. Nodra bula na nomuni kawa sa tiko e ligamuni.

I have forwarded copy of this article to the New Zealand Prime Minister and New Zealand Minister for Foreign Affairs to inform the NZ Govt of this potentially destabilising development.

Am sure they are already well informed about the same.

Oh..so they now finally believe all we were saying all along…human cash couriers !!!!…a business colleague personally raised this issue with the Fiji Govnt on a few occasions as far back as 2009!!..image the outward flow…

Next, check the black money market in our streets..some have been operating since 1987..and still are…we giggle when we see many alleged operators of these foreign currencies black market taking up Government Board appointmentd or rubbing cocktail glasses with our Leaders…

IF the authorities gave up on quantifying and identify offshore property purchase through the NBF scam, how could they trace properties overseas bought from black money??

….but again, if a cabin crew could carry extra grog for the family overseas..the same size paper bag may conveniently fits around 500K in 100 bills..not that they indulge in that habit…

Oh…we are sooo blind..or may be a foreign a hundred dollar bill obstructs our vision to apprehend the culprits…..

Having said that though, we are of the view allegation against Aslam Khan are NOT true!!...the real culprits are still jetting around..

this is nothing new as all suspicion of what this govt is doing all this time..involve with al kaida?there is big money moving around and yet genuine buss like yaqona or dalo farmers cannot move more then 5grand out of fiji unless they have to ask special permission from rbf..so one rule for others and one rule for bainivore..yeah i love the book animal farm in my sch days..

will there be a sharia law and a muslim state setup in fiji in the future?

the ppl that bainimarama has trusted are the ppl that are breaking down and abusing the social fabric in fiji..please C5..keep a note of their details for when the time comes..they will be all judged and hanged..fiji should bring back the death sentence to stop coups etc etc..

thumbs up to democracy!!

"small economies with rising populations and dwindling resources"

so why are the pacific islanders unable to control their family size?
is it because ...

1) they don't want to do it and don't look at it as a problem
2) they have little access to contraception / education
3) they don't like / forget using contraception

I believe that even in Fiji, if the population was not rising, the consequences of the coup wouldn't be as bad as they are now.

Fiji Soldiers themselves were saying that the day predicted for the Tsunami last year 23rd June 2010 - was the day BainiKhaiyum signed the agreement with Arab League. So we can see now the effects of that real tsunami that will sink Fiji.

Bole replaces Adi Ateca as Lau chair
July 13, 2011 12:51:14 PMA+ A- | | | Newly appointed Lau Provincial council chairperson, Adi Ateca Ganilau has been replaced by Minister for Education Filipe Bole.

Speaking to FijiLive Adi Ateca said she received the news that she is no longer the chairperson following the councils meeting this morning.

In the meeting, Commissioner Eastern Lieutenant Colonel Neumi Leweni said she does not support the People’s Charter and the leadership.

But Adi Ateca said, “I was in no way to persuade the council not to support the government”.

“I was giving my views to the council and not saying that we do not want to support the government.”

Adi Ateca said her removal has not affected her in any way as she was voted in by the council members yesterday.

A tentative step in Democracy by Lau Pr Council in free voting has been smothered by the illegal, self serving nut of a PM.

Goes to show that he and his illegal regime are not at all bothered about what the people want.

This bodes badly indeed for their promise of a free election in 2014.

How can you trust the dictator who is paying himself $700,000 from our public purse yet refusing to acknowledge it publicly.

At least he is re-confirming to the country his true colours. We have no choice but to remove this dictator from leadership

Every other country in the world is getting money from the Arabs so why not Fiji? The USA is miling them for their oil? At least our soldiers have the courage to be there -not too many countries in that Region or th Pacific region have those guts!

The Directors of Vodafone ought to be aware of this matter involving Aslam. Especially their Chairman, Lionel Yee, and those representing Vodafone head office in the UK.

There is widespread speculation that Aslam is allowing military personnel to enter Vodafone's premises in Tamavua, and listen in on calls transmitted to target phone numbers.

Vodafone Directors need to do something to protect its brand name being tarnished by criminal activities being undertaken by Aslam, or are they part of the plot?

Agree that Ateca made the wrong choice. She should have stood her ground and weather the consequences, assuming that decision was based on considered and well thought out plans, objectives and discussions with advisors and family. That would be courageous leadership.

The people chose you Ateca, you should have stood up stoikly and steadfastly for their votes.

Equally the delegates to the Lau Prov Council should have had the courage of conviction to stick to their initial choice.

How can we be respected when we change our minds with the wind as of we are shifting sands in the desert. There is no fibre, no grit, no reliance on decisions made...what is the future of Councils whose decisions can be easily swayed like this????

Highlights the lack of reliable leadership we can count on in Fiji. This is why it is taking us this long to get rid of the dictator.

WE SHUD NOT BE SURPRISED WITH THIS NEWS ABOUT THE INFLUENCE OF MUSLIMS IN FIJI. SINCE 2007 AG KHAIYUM HAS BEEN WOORKING BEHIND THE SCENE UNDER THE GUISE RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE TO FACILITATE THE INFLOW OF MUSLIMS INTO FIJI.

IN FACT THE OPPORTUNITIES GIVEN TO ASIANS (CHINESE, KOREANS, ETC) MIGRATING TO FIJI FOR DEVELOPMENT INVESTMENT IS A COVER TO WATER DOWN THE MUSLIM FACTOR IN PAKISTANIS, ARABS, BANGLADESHIS, AND MUSLIM AFRICANS WHO ARE NOW BASED IN STRATEGIC RURAL CENTRES ON THE PRETEXT OF RELIGIOUS TEACHINGS, ETC.

SOMEONE SHUD FIND OUT WHAT ELSE THEY ARE DOING OUT THERE APART FROM TURNING LOCAL I TAUKEI YOUTHS TO EMBRACE MUSLIM TEACHINGS AND BE MUSLIM MOLES IN OUT TRADITIONAL I TAUKEI SOCIETY

MAYBE AG AND HIS LOCAL MUSLIM ASSOCIATES SHUD BE ASKED TO EXPLAIN THEMSELVES

I Taukei says....

Why is the illegal regime talking about the people's charter again.

Its not the people's charter, IT'S JOHN SAMI'S CHARTER.

FIJI HAD A CONSTITUTION FOR ALL PEOPLE, NOT PERFECT BUT LAWFUL BY PEOPLE'S CHOICE.

THE JOHN SAMI CHARTER WAS FORCED DOWN PEOPLE'S THROAT AND AONLY A SMALL LESS THEN 100 AGREED TO THE CONTENTS.

LETS NOT BRING THIS ISSUE U AGAIN - I WANT TO VOMIT WHENEVER THIS PEOPLE'S CHARTER IS MENTIONED.

To,
Anon 2.55pm,

You said that Fiji Soldiers are the only ones in Iraq and all these war-torn Arab countries cause they have more guts than our neighbours? I'm sorry to say, they are there because they are Desperados, stupid and want fast money!! and the only other way for them,
is another COUP!!
May be It's time they stage another coup on their Comrade after all..... It must be tempting...watching their Hero paying himself $745,000 a year...while they're still on 15-20 thousand???? Valoloma na Kai Viti!!! Sorry Fiji is already sold to the Taliban!! Wake up people!!!!

Anon-go look at the UN Report on which other UN countries are in Iraq? Besides the USA & their mecenries & those that supported the war on terror which other country is guarding the UN Hqtrs in Bagdad? Fiji is the only one-ask yourself Why? Because when the UN HeadQtrs got bombed several years back the only soldiers that stood their ground were the Fijians-all the others took off to the comfort of the USA safety zone!
