ILO heading to Fiji this Thursday

Guy Ryder with Burma's pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi

The International Labour Organisation is sending a delegation to Fiji following the regime's new employment decree which drastically curbs worker's rights and makes trade unions defunct.

The ILO Director General, Juan Somavia, says he is seriously concerned about the latest developments and  is sending a high powered delegation on Thursday to investigate how the ILO could help save worker's rights and the future of unions in Fiji.

Somavia said the Essential National Industries (Employment) decree makes it impossible for trade unions to function normally.

He said these developments come on top of long-standing ILO concerns about the exercise of trade union rights in Fiji.

The delegation will be led by  Guy Ryder, thee Executive Director of the Standards and Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work Sector.

Ryder is a former General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation.

ILO thank u. Its good to see you coming to Fiji and listening to the Govt first hand as opposed these Aust n NZ unions. When you come to Fiji you will realise why this decree was indeed necessary. The unions have been very unreasonable.

Workers have only one right and that is to stay home and not attend work. Since last Wednesday when decree was introduced, attendance is better than normal. QED!

Great support ILO, please do not meet with the IG, they will try to hoodwink you all, only meet with Union members at ground level...

ILO will now know how the regime has been treating the people of Fiji, like trash. The AG and Voreqe seem to think they can do anything and get away with it,this is the last straw, hitting at people's bellies to save the economy. It is you guys that have brought this country to it's knees not it's people. The sooner you know that the better for you two.

What is with Sharon Burrows and her FTUC team.Who are they trying to fool. You mean to say ,you did not know what was going on these last five years.FTUC boys were sleeping with the regime and feeding you info that were LIES just because their pockets were getting warm and when their pants started burning then they ran to Sharon.
Ok, so what is the plan now?Are you really going to help the people of Fiji or is it just another exercise to keep yourselves afloat.

David Pflieger, the crazy yank is the author of the decree and ILO should extradite him to the Netherlands and be put on trial for crimes against humanity. Pflieger, time is running out, best to get out while you are still alive! tick tock, tick tock!

Suggest on his long flight to Viti Mr. Ryder not only does some soul searching - but also some book reading.

Former regarding his views on brutal illegal military dictatorships? Latter on publications citing successful military dictatorships?

If this gang don't give a damm about basic human rights can't see how they'll give a hoot workers?

I hope this is not another stage show to show that the global community cares for what is happening in Fiji. Look at what is happening in Libya, Egypt and Syria, hundred have died already. We have not reached those stages yet. What we are having is just a storm in the teacup. So those two will just come and have tea with his excellency the President and go back to where they came from. A social networking of planned community actions needs to trigger the catalysmic reactions or the visit is just another blah! blah! We need to start torching some houses and shops like they are doing in London

PS.

Mr.Ryder should also contemplate the intelligence of those in the regime he may be dealing with?
If a country currently has one remaining source of obtaining overseas currency (tourism) - what sane administration would threaten this by provoking a confrontation with international (refueling) unions?

Sooo...what will ILO gonna achieve??..may be just a costly report and a few cocktail glasses kissing each other...uh..nothing else.

Back to square one...Fiji and her people have the answer...NOT one globetrotting diplomat!!

Which NGO will be next to tell us what we ALREADY KNOW!!..

ILO Officials,if the illegal government wants to converse with ....do so but MUST talk to the unions because they are the ones feeling the pinch of the ILLEGAL REGIME.
Thank you for your concern.
GOD BLESS FIJI

Just take away the illegal humane rights from Kiss my Aiyasi and fruit salad and the rest will be done very neatly.

Just give them their best drinks to enjoy for the last days its coming your cups are running over.

Its time for tea and tavioka and clean your bucket which you will smell all your life in Max-Naboro.

The best advise is to start writting up your wills and nominate your beneficeries which will be the next goverment after all it will be proceeds of crime.
You will go back to where you came frtom that is the PIG STYE and your visitors will be your partners in crime the piggy sisters.
Wannbe PM and AG macawa kaisi kawaca.
