Tikoitoga promises heads will roll but no mention of his own part in Fiji's shabby World Cup performance

MOSESE TIKOITOGA

The chair of the Fiji Rugby Union, Mosese Tikoitoga, has fronted to say heads will roll over Sunday's embarrassing loss to Samoa.

Tikoitoga has told the Fiji Sun those facing the firing squad could include the manager, head coach, assistant coaches and trainer.

“There will be changes across the board in the national rugby team management. That will also include the selection panel and other arms of the Fiji Rugby Union."

The Flying Fijians were felled 27-7 by Samoa at Eden Park in Auckland in front of a sell-out crowd, many of them Fiji fans; the trouncing coming after a hiding from South Africa.

SHANNON FRASER
Fiji is now out of the quarterfinals and almost certainly out of automatic qualification for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

GREGG MUMM
Fans are baying for blood and Tikoitoga has told the Sun: “We will follow the process and wait for the team to return and for the team management to file their report with us."

The military appointed chairman added: “I know we are all disappointed with what happened against Samoa. There were a lot of talks before the game and we were told this team was better prepared than the 2007 team.

“We now have seen how they performed and we know what we have been able to do.  There is going to be changes made and we will make them once we have met as a board and decide on the next action.”

Fans yesterday called for head coach Samu Domoni and his coaching panel of Shannon Fraser and Greg Mumm to be sacked. The selection panel of former national reps Mosese Taga, Daniel Lobendhan and Vuata Naresia have since been included in that call with  former national 7s team manager, Epeli Lagiloa, saying Domoni should "resign now for his own sake. That would be the honourable thing to do.”

It was revealed yesterday that coaches are getting as much as $5,000 a week and that players were paid $15,000 before the Cup started and are to get $15,000 on their return home. Disappointed fans say the team are being paid too much and claim since being in New Zealand, the team has been more interested in signing autographs than serious training.

FBC is meanwhile today running a story quoting a Fiji counsellor urging fans to accept the nightmare loss to Samoa and move on.

Selina Kuruleca says if people are suffering anxiety or stress, they need to step away and spend time with their family!
She says fans should try and distract themselves in other ways or even try and watch other Fiji matches from previous years to lift their spirits.

Fiji captain Deacon Manu talks of the challenges facing the Flying Fijians:
"The fields we train on in Fiji are littered with frogs. They are an eye-opener even for someone like me. You are rarely able to use a full pitch. Most of the time you have to make do with a 22 and coming to New Zealand is such a contrast that most of the guys want to sleep on the grass we train on."

And the Flying Fijians look ahead to Wales with an interview with Netani Talei:RWC Diary Day 28 - Netani“I tried to focus on my game so that I could give an input to the team, I could have done a lot of things better and at the end of the day we didn’t get the result,” Talei said. “A lot of the boys are down at the moment, especially myself, we weren’t happy with the result but we have to get over it.”  http://www.fijirugby.com/pages.cfm/fru-news/?section=2011&newsid=rwc-diary-day-28--netani

Mo should start with himself and his other military appointed buddies at the FRU. This is what happens when you start messing around with the FRU just months out from a World Cup. People lose focus on their tasks and start worrying about their jobs with you military people looking over everyones shoulder. Don't blame the players for this, they did their best out on the field. Maybe its time to admit that Samoa were the better team on the day. Whats the use of sacking everybody? Where will that get Fiji rugby? Maybe Mo and Bai should sack each other first before the sack everyone in the FRU.

I feel sorry for our boys out there - not only is our nation and culture suffering, but now we are happy to have a clean rugby pitch! How sad is that!

We used to be the leading light of the south pacific nations - now reduced to a military dictatorship with canetoads on the rugby pitch.

Those boys should try to seek asylum in NZ. Better than being back in Fiji/North Korea.

The FRU management knew well before they leave Fiji the weakness or I should say poor and veikilai selection that were made. The current Fiji team had a warm up match with the Nadroga Team but lost. From there the management should have made some changes. Or the Nadroga Digicel and Farebrother Champion team should represent Fiji it we had want to be really "Flying Fijians, but now we have "Lazy Lamusona Duck Walking Fiji Team".
Our team is also a reflection of the Baimacawa Military Regime and bands of ululala leadership stupidity.

Yes Mosese u should please shut up. Its 2 late now. You had the opportunity to say that before but u choose to shut up. Fiji lost because Samoa was simply better prepared. It was better prepared because it had better coaching panel and better selectors. This is due to a better organised rugby body, free of military intervention and corrupt arseholes.
Although Fiji Lost to Samoa, they at least won to Nambia. In your WC days Mosese your team never won any pool game. So again please put a tape on your mouth.
Therefore Start with you Tikoitoga - SHUT UP AND SHIP OUT. All of you should resign or else termination are in order.

So here comes the blame game ....

But as the saying goes "the buck stops at the top" !!

Mosese Tikoitoga, can sack everyone at Rugby House, but it will still not change the 27-7 scoreline, it will only show to the world that the chairman does not know one iota about what rugby is all about – it is a lose some, win some, draw some kind of a game. How can he say they will all be sacked, Fiji rugby is run by a Board not one man, he is chairman, is he saying that the Board mean nothing in Fiji Rugby? The Fiji team has had its glory days, now it is down, maybe for good until freedom comes back to the people of Fiji. Everybody knew that the Military-inflicted upheaval at Rugby House was not good for international rugby (we knew that at the outset), but a few worthy men decided to come and represent Fiji anyway and is this the way they get rewarded, for doing our dirty jobs for us? Sorry, Mosese’s chairmanship will see Fiji rugby go into the dump full stop. He should do the honorable thing and resign himself and save Fiji rugby. That will be a great favor for us all.

At least wait until the game against Wales is over before coming up with this crap Tikoitoto!! For goodness sakes, show some class....just goes to show the idiot mentalitiy you have and the disrespect for the position of chairman. Let the public have their say but you as chairman should shut your mouth and support the team to the last game!! You are the representative of Fiji rugby...don't try and distance yourself from this team and management that comes under your authority. Just shows the type of man and officer you are, just like your cowardly boss Bai, when hard times come, first man on the lifeboat!!...or should I say first man down the tavioka patch!! and dusileka!! macawa!

Keep out Tokoitoga. We have already seen first hand the consequences of the regime's interference in the affairs of the FRU. All we ask now after our ignominious defeat is that you leave us alone! we have never suffered such humiliation before - at least not in a long while.

How did No 5 & Akapusi make the team!. And that hopeless No 8 before Sisa took over. Why bring on that overseas reserve half back when local produce have proven themselves over and over?. Poor backs..really struggled!. Despite fast changing rules ofthe game, basic of the game remains...loose it up front, your backs will run around like headless chickens for the rest of the game.

Now isa,isa & isa lei when local players could have done much better!!Wait another 4 year!

I guess, current curses flows from Frank's white house and current regime. A clear message that in time, your substance will be tested. If truely gutless, your true colours will be paraded for the world to see!!!

Really felt like a fijian pufta or a Samoan fafafine at the end of the game!!

I was at the game and, while I cheered my heart out right to the end, I was very disappointed. Most of the Fiji supporters around me left half way through the second half. What has happened to our once great rugby team?

Most of the players looked fat and unfit. Every other second tier team at the world cup has improved greatly since the last RWC, but not Fiji. We have gone backwards. We will be lucky to even qualify for the next RWC.

This is what happens when positions are not filled by merit but on nepotism and bribery.

We win some, we lose others, that is the nature of the sport.

Although I am heartbrokenly disappointed with our loses at the RWC, I am also glad because they gift us with lessons of what not to do in our preparation and build up to the next RWC. I will even go as far as saying that not getting automatic qualification for the next RWC will be a blessing in disguise for us. It is four years to the next, if we want to be part of the next RWC, then preparing for it starts now. Na yaqa bera, na play mapolo, na vakateratera kei na masipolo me sa biu laivi. There definitely needs to be a 'clean-up' but to conduct an effective clean - up, you first need to know what to clean out!

So, let us start with what went wrong? And what better place to start than with FRU and its board! And Deacon's 'frog on the field' problem is the least of our worries here. If there is to be positive changes and progress, then we need to rid of all the poison - variety frogs at FRU starting with FROG MOTIK! When we have gotten our house in order then all else will smoothly fall into place. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THAT WE CAN FREE OUR FLYING FIJIANS. How can we expect them to fly with the pre-RWC shenanigans at FRU!!! And oh, head coach miner needs to be sent back to the mines too. Mining and rugby coaching are two very different things! Put him aside and get the good Rev at the helm then we will see our team FLY, FLY FLY...

By the way, we have one more game to play in this RWC. Does this game against Wales matter? I would say, HELL YEAH! It will be the first game for our new coach and a welcome RELEASE for our boys!

So, to the boys, I would like to say, "Go Fiji GO", let's give them all a game to remember for the next four years BOYS...WIN OR LOSE, YOU ARE STILL MY FIJI TEAM - GO FIJI GO!!!

Anonymous said...

for Deacon manu to come out and mention frogs at the fields they train at is pathetic. he should have raised his concern then, not after the loss. too much talk and no action!!!The chairman must resign. and get the military out of the FRU. you are all useless!!

The selected side was never going any where right from the word go! There were too many green players. You just can't base selection on players playing overseas! Look around at the overseas based players they had and left out! Cauacau, Delasau & Bobo. now if you believ the FRU Caucau mentioned he didn't want to play for Fiji! An outright lie! When Caucau was approached his French club was 1 match away from the semi finals-his answer was simple & i translate from Fijian' i need to worry about my club & family right now as we want to get into the finals"! They never came back to him but word got around that Caucau said "he wanted to concentrate on his club & family". The same was also said of Delasua -that i don't know.We never had a hope in the world when you can get rid of player of the quality of Rabeni-replace him with a player like Goneva & play him in the wing against a team like Namibia & gauge his performance from that-that he is a winger-what a stupidity. But what beats me in this whole process is the selection of the coach Samu Domoni. Samu was workin over in Western Australai-boozing away! He suddenly became religious when he joined the New Methodist-and as we all know became the Fiji Coach form his connection with the Telenis!
All the rest is history-did we have a chance in the world of getting anywhere in the world cup -NO! The Aussies who were assistant coaches-were as bad as Domoni-if they were so good were are the results of their coaching ie "show me the money"! Bringing Foley in to teach us how to scrum before the world cup is like asking for a miracle! It was never going to happen-how about getting some NZ's who have a proven track record to coach us? For those not in the know they even had Rev Rinakama in NZ to help out-what good was that going to do when you had the paid Aussie running the show? Strength the Rugby Union Competition in Fiji is the only answer! The overseas based players can't not afford to injure themselves for such tournments why ? Because they livelihood depends on it & it showed up during matches!Do you balme them not really-how many of our players it took to take down an opposition player-3! They just can't afford to get injured! -but the overseas based players don't seem to be answer right now-which is a contraindication when you think of Samoa, but there is a reason why that is happening! You can't kick away possesion when you have a weak defense-out fullback didn't seem to understand that-nor the one player wearing the No 9 jersy nor the fullback!
There isn't enough space on C4.5 to write down the numerous issue that has to be addressed if we are to get any where.Tikoitoga came into the scene at a late moment so he should not be held responsible for all the crap that has happened. The FRU is in a mess and still is! Our priorities are all wrong thats why we have the wrong coaches & wrong players! Too many dead hangers on working within the FRU-if Decon Manus comments are correct abot the ground & frogs.Guess what nothing much wil change but someone has to take the blame-Domoni for one & those that selected him!

There has to be an international law that David Pfliger of Air Pacific, can be prosecuted for being the brain trust and sponsor of the Essential National Industries. He needs to be reported to the American Embassy in Suva for meddling in the internal affairs of a sovereign nation. Pfliger's actions are illegal and ILO needs to haul him in before he destroys Air Pacific and Fijian tourism. I call on the tourism stakeholders to lobby government for his deportation. He is destroying Fiji's remaining business - tourism!

Its easy to blame people or different individuals for Fiji's performance. However it should not have been a surprise. Rugby in Fiji is played at such a low level or standard. Very basic skills are not present in upto 95% of top provincial players. Our players are not as athletic, fit, skilled, conditioned as the rest of the world anymore. Sadly we have been left behind. Not much we can do when our secondary schools rugby which is where players really start to develop and be recognized have no facilities what so ever at their disposal, very low level coaches, and the list goes on. Fiji really can oonly go forward.. the question is do we really want to?
