|EARLY DAYS: Neumi Leweni now heading for Beijing. Why?|
Well-placed sources say they have confirmation from the Chinese Embassy and Foreign Ministry that Neumi Leweni is indeed going to China.
Insiders say Leweni, who is currently Commissioner Easterns office, will be going with immediate effect to replace the current counsellor, Filipe Alifereti.
Alifereti was the Commanding Officer of the RFMF 8th Battalion prior to his posting to the Fiji Embassy in China in 2008. He was also the CEO of the Fiji Meat Industry Board in Nasinu, Suva.
Insiders tipped more than a week ago to Coupfourpointfive that the regime was about to rejig the roles of some of its key players and that Leweni, who played a major part in Bainimarama's take-over team (and was the public face of the coup for along time), would be going to China.
Leweni was briefly posted by Bainimarama to work in Fiji's embassy in Beijing, but was recalled in unexplained circumstances and resumed his military role.
The Commissioner of Prisons, Lieutenant Ieferemi Vasu, is being moved back as Commissioner Eastern to allow Leweni to take up the new role.
Insiders continue to insist the military is back in planning for elections asap, and that an exit strategy is being mapped out for Bainimarama.
