Casino company looking to China for the cash

Larry Claunch and Frank Bainimarama
Fresh information coming into Coupfourpointfive says One Hundred Sands doesn't have all of the money yet for the $290 million luxury casino resort and convention center it says it's going to build on Denarau Island on March the 31st.

A Ministry of Trade and Commerce source says Larry Claunch and co are seeking support in China for its Denarau casino, plus the smaller one in Suva that it's also supposed to be building.

But local media are talking up the One Hundred Sands plans saying the construction of Fiji’s first ever casino gets underway this month with the ground breaking ceremony at Denarau.

The company's director for customer experiences, Greg Schillinger, has told Fiji Village the recruitment and training of more than 100 locals will follow in the second quarter of this year.

Schillinger says casino will be finished in 2013.

So just how much does One Hundred Sands need for its casino and will Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum and the clan get a cut of any of the funds it secures in China?

You are asking if the Pope is a catholic! The Khaiyum Clan has systematically milked the system since the coup in 2006. In the meantime they own more than 20 properties in Fiji and have very significant overseas accounts in Hong Kong, Australia and UK. Insiders estimate the combined wealth of the Khiyum Clan t be in the order of US$ 75-80 million with every penny stolen from the people of Fiji.

Here we go around the mulberry bush again.

Obviously going to China for $$$ using Bainimara's and Eye-my-arse connections. They will get their cut.

Fiji is being raped through and through

These are the Costumes Frank Bainimarama should be wearing instead of insulting Traditional Indians in the Americas, by wearing what is supposedly, a Traditional Indian Headpiece.

I wonder if Frank is aware of the expression " Indian Giver " in regards to the giving of gifts !

I regret to say that 4.5 contributors do not understand business. One has to find & set up a project first and then obtain the funding. A good viable project will always get funded except when in a country that has an unstable or illegal government. Fiji is in that category and this will make it harder for Larry Claunch, with higher risks for him but potentially higher returns if he gets it funded and completed.

@ Democrat.

Tis both yourself & Larry Claunch who do not understand business.

Rule 1.
Obtain certaintly - security & protection for investment under law. Something this project does not have eg: you cannot knowingly enter into a legal contract with a known illegal entity (regime) & expect future protection under law...Like buying a car you known is stolen and expecting then compensation when the authorities seize it.

Larry Claunch only got the contract because of his connections with Bainimarama and Khayium. It's a given he doesn;t have the $290 million needed for the project and that Chinese investors would have to stump up the rest and that Khaiyum would get a cut.Thing to watch is whether the casino will be as grandiose as touted remember Larry's other projects have gone belly up for lack of cash. Not sure if Bai can make it rain on this one despite the Indian headgear

Amazing that 100 Sands say they are affiliated with Indigenous American Indians and cannot even secure a genuine headress for Bai to wear.
Instead they give him a headress from a $2 Chinese shop and a Beach-towel.
Imagine if it was Julia Gillard (Australian PM) the Indians would have given her a genuine headress.

But I guess it is Bai and all he is fit for is a $2 rubbish from China.

Of course Claunch doesn't have that kind of money. He also has no qualifications whatsoever, except his willingness to cut Aiyaz and Thief Me-Wanna-Wampum in on a piece of the action.

Interesting to see that the company's Director of Customer Experience, Greg Schillinger, hasn't held a steady job for longer than 18 months according to his LinkedIn profile.
The longest job he did hold was at a place called Paddy's Bar & Grill.

How this makes him qualified to run customer experiences for a 280 million dollar project that the entire country of Fiji is looking forward to is a good question to ask.
This entire group of players involved in this operation is in question.

These people know absolutely nothing about how to operate a casino. At least Mr. Claunch does appear intelligent enough to hide his own professional experience.

Any Private Investor or International Company that invests in this Casino should be Internationally Condemned and their shareholders should make their disgust known to the Chairman and the Board members.

I am all for democracy but the common man like myself was worse off under democracy. Feared walking home at night after work. Had to keep grills and doors locked tight every time. Crime had generally gone down in my area after the coup but started rising after the military went back to the barracks. Years down the line and as election year draws near, crime is getting worse. What would the politicians know about our hardships, they live behind secure fences with guard dogs and security personnel. Politicians and the wealthy live in neighborhoods that have police patrols, better roads, are given favorable treatment by officials of government etc. Politicians are good and bad. Most people posting here and the administrator of this blog are hypocrites.
