Fiji regime: covert rule of law report dishonest

Christopher Pryde
The regime has tried to dismiss the recent report by Nigel Dodds, the chair of the Law Society Charity, who made a secret visit to the country and concluded it is without rule of law.

Almost two weeks after Dodd's report hit regional and international headlines thanks to blogs alerting the world to the findings, the regime - clearly stung by the publicity - has issued a statement  denouncing Dodd.

The statement tries to rubbish Dodd's findings, which as people who know the story will recall went on to be endorsed by the New Zealand Law Society.

Dodds made the secret fact-finding mission on a tourist visa late last year and released last month the report Fiji: The Rule of Law Lost. The report made no bones about the fact the independence of the Fiji judiciary ‘cannot be relied upon’ and ‘there is no freedom of expression’.

Tonight's regime statement dismisses Dodds as 'the chairman of an obscure British NGO, Law Society Charity' who has 'publicly spread false, outrageous and inflammatory allegations against the Fijian judicial system.'

The regime claims Dodds did not interview the number of attorneys, judges and Opposition politicians he said he did and deemed his findings 'intellectually dishonest allegations'.

"Mr Dodds spent approximately four days in Fiji. Four months later, he is making an undisguised attempt to draw publicity for himself and his group as a supposed expert on Fiji’s judicial system."

The statement says Dodds never contacted the Director of Public Prosecutions or any other government official for his “report” and has  Christopher Pryde falling back on the claim that Dodd's organisation is being used by disgruntled people with an agenda.

“The failure to solicit any opinion from people actively engaged with the Fijian legal system strongly suggests that Mr Dodds and his organisation are either being used by certain disgruntled people in Fiji to promote a political agenda or are being deliberately obtuse.

"Either way, the report is intellectually dishonest and does their organisation no credit."

The regime cites an unnamed 'analyst' who it says criticised the report asking: “Is this genuine charitable work? Or subcontracted political advocacy? There is little of professionalism here.”

Pryde pulls out another favourite put down, claiming Dodds was racist: "Mr Dodds seems to have a problem with Sri Lankan lawyers. The DPP’s Office recruits staff on the basis of merit, and is not concerned with a lawyer’s ethnic background but with their professionalism and integrity.”

Pryde insists the DPP is an independent office and that it is 'without recourse to any Government minister, including the Attorney-General.' "The Office is non-political and independent in its decision-making.”

How can he meet with judges, lawyers etc when what they'll say is a foregone conclusion? These illegal parasites will certainly support the illegal judiciary, so there's no point in meeting them.

Of course there is rule of law in Fiji, it is ASK's "Rule of LAW" fully supported by Puppet Pryde, making the judiciary mere slaves to the AG's wishes, it makes a mockery of Justice. Gates would resign if he had any moral fibre.

Must see on ABC Lateline Australia. Fiji has seen five years of a military dictatorship and although emergency rule has been lifted, critics say there is still an air of intimidation. What do you say to this Mr Pryde

Let's hope Bob Carr does his job and drives the message into this regime that they need to go.

Arsehole was interviewed on ABC Lateline and did you look worried. He was sweating and lips were quivering.

Here is part transcript of what he said.

PHILIPPA MCDONALD: Why was she held for five days? What kind of a message does it send when a 73-year-old woman, a former MP, is held without charge?

AIYAZ SAYED-KHAIYUM: I understand in Australia you've have people of 75 years been charged with paedophile. Age is not of significance if a person has allegedly committed an offence. Let's not get emotional about this.

The point is that if a person has committed, or alleged to have committed, an offence under the particular law they will be charged with it according to that law.

PHILIPPA MCDONALD: The 73-year-old businesswoman is charged with inciting political violence. There are 20 Fijians currently charged with treason-related offences, and if they are convicted they face hefty prison terms.

Critics of the interim government say some of those cases have been brought to make it impossible for people with strong or opposing views to run for parliament in 2014.

In the meantime, Frank Bainimarama and his senior colleagues haven't ruled out standing in the elections. Paradise is a long way from being politically regained.

Suspect they have been 'investigating' behind the scene to see who spoke to Dodds hence the amount of time to reply.

NZ Law Society must investigate Pryde for conspiracy to pervert course of justice in Qarase case

April 21, 2009

By VICTOR LAL

The illegal solicitor-general Christopher Pryde is back in his old position and has the gall to tell his law-aiding countrymen lawyers to help Fiji return to rule of law in Fiji.

Yes, so that he could, as Shaista Shameem claimed in September 2007 “steal” other peoples legal ideas and present it as his before a court of law.

It is time the NZ Law Society investigated whether Pryde attempted, with Shameem, Khaiyum and Gerard McCoy to pervert the course of justice in the Qarase versus Bainimarama case in the Fiji High Court.

The thoroughly discredited and unemployable Christchurch lawyer is yet to admit or deny Shaista Shameem’s allegations that the Kiwi lawyer stole her legal arguments and presented it as his own

“This is about intellectual property theft by the white boys in the AG’s office. FHRC came to our conclusions on the December 5th events (which you know as the report Part II), brought it to the attention of the Solicitor General because they did not have a clue how they should go about this case. We then made an arrangement with them that we would intervene on the prerogative issue; he took that and went to Aiyaz and Gerard McCoy, who took our plan and without telling me made a separate application in an interlocutory matter on how the PM did not keep the President informed under section 104; and then when I cried foul, they decided to object to our intervention! This is how it goes here with the white boys and the AG’s office. I have of course declared war. You are free to use this information any way you like. The problem is the Tony Gates is a friend (close and personal) of Gerard McCoy and probably wants to make his name in the international constitutional circuit. This is how bad it is here now. Dog eat dog. I am certainly not assisting in the Fatiaki trial- let the cards fall where they shall. My job is the public interest and I did not write my reports for the state. The military council is fully briefed and I don’t have any worries.

Best – Shaista.”

What is there to dismiss; really quite interesting coming from Chris Pridey, to use his own word, the most 'obtuse' person around.

However you try, the world gets to know the truth; making headlines and alerting the world of the corruption, nepotism, cronyism, pervesion of justice, etc. in Fiji's judiciary.

Fire Fighting is not good enough now to rubbish Dodd's findings...it is being endorsed all over as by the New Zealand Law Society.

You cannot just run down an organisation that has more clout and mileage like the Law Society Charity' (a British NGO). What Dodd has raised are neither allegations nor false for Fiji's Judicial System is no better than the Orwellian Animal Farm.

Mr. Dodd talked to people who matter; individuals from a cross section of society who patronise the system.

What political agenda are we referring to here, Mr. obtuse Chris Pridey? How is it about Dodd being intellectually dishonest...you are insulting the meaning of the word 'dishonest'.

No, No, undivided negative attention and publicity is now being drawn to you...disgruntled people with an agenda...the 800,000 people of Fiji are disgruntled with you and your government.

I'm sure a lots of us will be highly disappointed when election
consultation period comes around.We
have to remember that the West Minister electoral Model, may not be used in our new 2014 election? We could be using a newer
method(s) altogether? We could be using the USSR,Russia,Chinese,
India,Israel,Malayasia,or another country electoral system? One that our new leaders think, that will enable to ghel our people together? So instead of fighting each other may be we should be consulting each others about what system we're gonna used for this crap?

I know that we're all pissed-off at anyone, who appears to be taking
advantage of the Fiji situation, but we should be glad that some of these people, including Pryde are here and thinks, that they're here and are making the differences?May be they are, who knows, without them a blockhead military colonel, could have been doing his job, plus brutalising citizen at night?

Very much impressed with the accuracy of the report given the short time Mr Dodds was able to gather the information required to make a comprehensive analysis.
