State of emergency to be declared

It appears the regime will declare a state of natural disaster after the latest bout of flooding, caused by unexpected rain just a month after the flash floods of January.

There is conflicting information though over the death toll: overseas reports put it at six but Sharon Smith Johns says it's two.

The illegal leader, Frank Bainimarama, has meanwhile extended the 200% rebate on donations to the Flood Relief Appeal, which began in January, for another two months, to May 31.

It had expired yesterday. The rebate applies to donations over $1,000.

  1. That is the consequences of scrapping the GCC. The weatherman is not to blame.Bainimarama has to blame himself for the disaster.

  4. The regime is declaring a state of emergency? I'm worried about the potential for abuse of power by the regime if it's handed emergency powers.

Just kidding. This regime would never abuse its power, right?

Maybe it would help in these situations if Bainimarama would provide an accounting for his PM's disaster emergency fund. But then, when has he ever permitted an audit or any accountability for anything with which he's been associated?

  15. The country is in deep economic shit and the chief goon will now use it as a scapegoat which he will blame as to have caused the decline when he presents the national budget later in the year.

  16. A friend in need is a friend in deed, do we really have any?, don't think so!, particularly the new friends that we appear to have made recently.
No where to be seen, understandably so, as they are thousands of kilometers away, with their own problems to worry about.
Any assistance from China, India, Indonesia, Russia?, don't think so, understandably so.

  23. Putting Govt aside(who have nothing to do with the weather)To Westerners especially Nadi residents and itaukei, what is happening to you today is due to your turning your backs to the numerous men of God who have tried over the years to get you to serve the Lord Almighty but you have chosen your wealth over Him.Whenever June and December of each year comes around, the business community of Nadi and Lautoka know how much of landowners money pour into their shops, taxis, etc.Tents and sheds are seen in villages(temporary taxi bases in villages setup) as they carry out vakamaus, tevutevus, bulubulus(which are done only in this 2 months)A small teenager I asked how much he got from lease money on one occasion told me he got $6000!For a number of days he and his friends had hired a minibus complete with the latest Dokidokis and cruising aimlessly (no school for 2 weeks)around Nadi,Denarau,Namaka,Lautoka, and right to Ba!To the Vanua of Nadi, your wealth is from God so if you could at least show your appreciation by serving him rather than your wealth, surely He will restore EVERY-SINGLE-THING that you may have lost and top it up again with MORE!My advice:The writing is on the wall for you and its never too late to turn to Him in these hard times.

  24. Bainimarama can you and your entire phony cabinet resign bcause we cant trust you to deliver after this natural disaster..

  25. Overseas countries who want to help should channle assistance through Red Cross and other relevant NGOs rather than govt because this regime has a dismal track record in accounting for help that come through its system.

  26. @ kainoda. quote "A small teenager I asked how much he got from lease money on one occasion told me he got $6000"

Really that amount of money? Damn these guys are lucky!

  27. I know that most people are worried that donations from governments like NZ etc will be abused if channeled to the government dept. That is besides the point. The important thing is are they giving it from the heart or for publicity only. They need not worry,God is watching! The Good Book says that your left hand should not know what your right hand has given. To Mr Key,If you want to give then do so,if not keep your money with you and just shut up.Fiji has always risen to every occasion whether be it in sports,in wars,in cyclones, droughts, floods, coups etc,We have never begged nor relied on anybody and to top it off,Fijians are a proud race and have always believed in themselves.Money or no money, life will still go on!

  28. Kainoda @ 10:16am

Kai Nadi have had this wealth for generations. Since the 1970's.

They never had floods of this level until 2009.

So what is your theory for the Kai Tebara ? The flooding is happening over there right now.

There is also flooding in Naitasiri happening right now.

What about all the cows Chief Warwar bought for $10 million which can't produce milk because its the wrong grass in Tailevu/ Natasisri ? That was to replace the ones which died of Brucellosis straight after the announcement in 2007 that Fiji would be self sufficient in milk.

Ra mate taucoko na bulumakau. Cava na vuna ?

There is also flooding in Nadroga (Sigatoka) and in Navua.

Chief Warwar's island is having flooding right now in Vanuatu. Huge flooding as of last evening.

  29. If you stupid people calling for the government to resign at this critical time(when they are most needed) WHO do you want to take over then, Qarase,Chaudory,Rabuka?Felex,Urai,Samisoni,Mataiasi etc?Mind you, all these people can be summed up with a common word,CORRUPTED. Disaster management and control is not a walk in the park, so the lesser you talk, the better for them to do their jobs for the country.Better still why don't you be of some help to them presenting yourself in person rather than criticizing them from behind your computer

  30. @ Kainoda 12:51

    We are paying our taxes.

We did not vote for these thugs with guns to take over the government we voted for.

Who told them to come and take over the government ?

They have assumed responsibility for this situation unilaterally at the barrel of the gun. So why should they go around asking for help now ? Who asked them to take over the Government in the first place ?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Kainoda you sound like an empty vessel.Swallow your pride-the world is watching and you have no clue of govt. mechanics. Disaster management is easy/effective if there is good coordination-but in Fiji-its in dissray-Weather office blaming Water Authority on flood warning etc..with spokespersons all over the place, Sharon,Cawaki,Seruiratu, Pajiliai etc... coordinate.. please speak with one voice as not to cause confusion/panic. Learn of how Japanese handle disaters. They remain composed, considerate, supportive in adversity- with all hands on deck....

  32. Agree with Kainoda..I am a taxpayer but I did not vote for this regime to collect my taxes and determine its usage. Therefore what they're doing is thieving.

Kai Viti Dina April 2 12.26pm...LEVU GA NOMU VIAVIA VUKU...VOSAVOSA VAKALIALIA.

THE 'SPIRIT OF GIVING" IS NOT BESIDE THE POINT, AS YOU HAD SAID...WHAT IS BESIDE THE POINT IS YOUR COMPLACENT MENTALITY. HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THIS GIVING IS NOT FROM THE HEART?

NZ AND AUSTRALIA HAVE BEEN GIVING SINCE, IN MY VIEW TIME IMMEMORIAL; LONG BEFORE MY TIME ON THIS EARTH AND I AM SURE I HAVE BEEN ON THIS EARTH LONGER THAN YOU. ALL THIS TIME AND LONG BEFORE YOU WERE BORN TO ME MEANS GIVING FROM THE HEART.

FOR ONE COMMENT YOU ARE RIGHT...GOD IS WATCHING, LISTENING AND READING AS WELL...LET NOT YOUR LEFT HAND KNOW WHAT YOUR RIGHT HAND HAD DONE...ARE YOU PRACTISING THIS YOURSELF?

MAY I CORRECT YOU...FIJI IS IN THE MUD AND RUT AND ALMIGHTY GOD KNOWS THAT; THAT IS WHY THE ALMIGHTY HAS TOUCHED THE HEART OF GOOD HUMANE PEOPLE LIKE MR. KEY (PM OF NZ)BUT HE HAS NOT TOUCHED YOU...WHY? ASK YOURSELF....YOU SPEW TOO MUCH DIRT, WHAT YOUR HEART AND SYSTEM ARE SO FULL OF.
