Regime assessors find Qarase guilty

Qarase: pic Fiji Village
Fiji's deposed prime minister Laisenia Qarase has been found guilty by three assessors on all 9 charges relating to breaches while he was a director of Fijian Holdings Limited.

Fiji Village says the assessors took about two hours to return a verdict, finding Qarase guilty of six counts of abuse of office and three counts of the charge of discharging his duty with respect to property in which he has a private interest.

High Court Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando is expected to deliver his judgement tomorrow afternoon.

Fiji Village says Qarase shook hands with his legal counsel after the verdict and drove away from the court house in a vehicle that had been waiting for him.

Proper procedure requires that he be taken to Korovou prison to be held overnight pending the Judgement tommorow.

Definitely not a surprise. Under the banana republic, the law of the jungle is supreme. However, in this jungle, the lion ain't the king.. it is an ape (aiyarse) and his puppet (vote).. monkey say, monkey do... Fiji's legal system is just that... monkeys, monkeys, monkeys the whole lotta them! Just run out of bananas at the rate they're going.. Switching to vudi soon! LOL

Sadly, my prediction that the dice is going to fall the way it has, has indeed materialized. These ILLEGAL thugs will do all they can to put both the HONOURABLE and ELECTED PM [ Mr Qarase] and Mr Chaudhary out of the way in order to neutralise their support.
I sincerely hope that the SDL Party has a "Plan B"!!

This fake judgement could spell the end of the Regime and the beginning of a concerted and unstoppable revolt against it.
I hope that Frank and Aiyaz and their supporters are being monitored so they can be arrested as they attempt to make their run for freedom.
Close all ports and mobilise Loyalist Soldiers and Police.
Now is the time for Frank and Co. to learn just what democracy, freedom and liberty mean.

where is justice ?
fiji court is controlled by ASK/BAI/NAZAT.
I hope Auss and NZ reading this.
why support the illegal regime .
where is democracy promoted by the bigger brothers USA,AUSS and NZ.

Frank & Aiyaz are terrified of being marginalised and losing control of the people they have paid to keep people scared.

Once they slip, the rest will abandon them to their fate without hesitation - and this is their problem - how do they EVER let go?

Anonymous said...

Please dont associate Qarase with Chaudhry - Qarase is not guilty but Mahend is - he was hiding millions in overseas bank accounts. He has to be kept under tight watch by the regime - he could escape to Australia at his next fake medical visit.

Anonymous said...

Serves qarase right.
He has been most corrupt-he did not even leave the ordinary taukies and wanted all wealth for him out out FHL.
I hope the jail sentence is at least 5 years!!!!

Anonymous said...

I would not be too quick to judge, Qarase could have guilty under any court, just no one would have taken it to court before. Why there was no need to as it was seen as a good thing for Fiji. Was it illegal or could it have been an abuse of office, sure. Think about it FHL was formed to benefit Fijians under the Fijian affairs umbrella ie through the province so members can benefit particularly those at the rural end. So rather then sell shares to individual sell to provincial companies so they can find source of finance from say FDB. The very scheme that QArase and co came up with could have been used to finance shares. And the sad thing some of the proponents of ClassA shares who originally bought shares via FDB loans are feeling guilty right now and they should have been there with Qarase to cop the charge.

Anonymous said...

Come on pupils. Please read sum up by judge. There was no other way this could have gone. Stop greeting the issue. LQ simply thought he was too smart. The law finally caught up with him. His time is up. RIP LQ.

Qarase has been found guilty by three independent assessors in the Fiji High Court.

He was convicted on the evidence presented by one of Hong Kong's top barristers. Are we to believe that he was part of the stitch up? Come on.

Think about it. Why did Qarase refuse to take the stand in his defence? Because he wasn't prepared to be cross examined under oath.

Guilty as charged. Goodbye election. Hello Naboro.

It is plainly clear to anyone that the only reason evidence from the 1990s was presented in court and supported by anti-Qarase witnesses is because the military holds the guns - if dictator and his master Khaiyum are honest, let them allow us to inspect the books - their salaries, contracts with overseas companies, military spending etc - and not talk about immunity - which they claim is non-negotiable. I salute Qarase, whatever befalls on the man. I am not his supporter but he subjected himself to the arm of the law

Anonymous said...

Can any one tell us who those three assessors were. I hope he is not sent to jail tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

So, if Qarase had declared his interest and bought thousands of Class A shares, he would not have committed a crime, like that liu muri Sitiveni Weleilakeba - SW still bought the shares, and if we are to accept the logic, deprived other Fijians and provinces of those shares!

Matai T said...

As I have told you earlier, my fellow Fijians. The justice system is a whore of Aiyaz Khaiyum, and I told you that this will happen.

But why make the judgement tomorrow, when the assessors' verdict was that LQ was guilty.

Moles reveal that there were a lot of happenings and meeting between khaiyum, bainimarama, Priyantha Fernando and the assessors over the weekend. That is why Fernando said the assessors will give their verdict on monday.

All eyes will be on Priyantha Fernando tomorrow as the ruling will definately decide the next path for Fiji.

I personally ask all my fellow itaukeis to please stay true to you party SDL and its leader LQ. this is an attempt to neutralize the qarase/sdl support from the people.

Looks to me that Chaudhary will suffer the same fate. if it is, then it will be clear cut win for the regime, and to top it off, like i said before, the elections will be rigged.

I believe on SDL/FLP govt can bail the country out. Pray to stay strong and loyal to your leaders Laisenia Qarase and Mahendra Chaudhary.

God Bless Fiji

Matai T.

While I would not like to see Qarese go behind bars, it is clear that not all I-taukei are equal or been treated fairly in past.
Those shares should have gone to the poorest of poor via soft loan from FDB.

Finally! said...

Congratulations Qarase.

Off Course it is personal vendetta.... if it were true cleanup... National Bank corrupt files would have been charged by now.

However, it is Qarase that was causing problem to military but not the other corrupt individuals... hencve others are of no interest to military.

Chaudhry will win his case as military may be wanting Chaudhry over SDL.

I believe this is a blessing in disguise for LQ because he will save his money on getting a QC Counsel and might use his money on the next election in 2019. They were trying to make him bankrupt by prolonging the court case and trying to speed up the case in the eleventh hour so that he will not get a QC but save QArase a much needed cash to survive while he spend some term in prison under a micky mouse legal system. Lets give our support to the family and the party and lets vote sensibly in the next election.

How old is Qarase?

vakavanua out said...

No senior lawyer locally or overseas was willing to take the case as it was a simple clear cut case of abuse of office. The finger should point at the Ministers then who slept on their jobs particularly the Minister for Finance and Minister for Fijian Affairs. LQ was guilty of VAKAVANUA-ISM. Hopefully this ruling will bring such practices under control.

Well done FICAC, should you been around the 80's then iTaukei will be well of now.

to me
Well the Aussie government and Kiwis must not just accept things from the regime like this. There must be statements documented on commitments from the regime as to what they will uplift when moving towards restoring democracy. There are decrees in place that are in contravention of ILO core conventions which Fiji as a state ratified. These among other draconian decrees must be removed and the constitution( since they are re-drafting it) the only legal law in place to govern Fiji and it's peoples.

We have a military regime run by hypocrites, who came to power through the power of the gun, with a kangaroo judiciary, an intimidating security force, who have been overspending their budgets since 2005, without any proper accountability.
This same regime and its institutions is finding everybody else guilty of any slight allegation even for the last 20 years, but cannot see their own guilt and are pushing for immunity.
No way we will be fooled, no one gets out free!!!.

Anonymous said...

Now... that Mr LQ is guilty...thanks to the hardworking Regime anti corruption team... they should now continue their case by investigating the VB...so that he could finally prove to the world that the Army's budget were used wisely....that is if he has the balls to allow his backyard to be scrutinize....

Shylock said...

@Anon above

Your language should be EXPLETIVE DELETED like Nixon's - if you know what I mean, which I doubt considering the extremely low level of your vocab which suggests its coming from a form of low life.
The CASH I mean is the CASH flowing through that village in Vanua Balavu which claims the largest church, the largest community hall and the largest turnover of grog sales throughout Fiji. What about the other villages on the island ? Wasn't that cash supposed to have been channeled through the LAU PROVINCE for the benefit of all Lauans not only HIS relatives ? A greedy Taukei is not a Taukei.

Mere said...

Shylock, you don't impress us as more than an uneducated lowlife yourself with your anti-Semitic comments.

Shylock said...

@ Mere

Can Shylock be anti-Semitic ? It takes a Shylock to know another. The reference to LQ's Jewish blood is disturbing. ' A little learning is a dangerous thing,' Shakespeare said in one of his plays. There are Fijians who think that Jews are Christians. Jews have their own religion which is different from that advocated by Jesus Christ. Methodist ministers who support the SDL could have been misinforming and confusing the congregation about the meaning of LQs Jewish blood.

Mere said...

Shylock, I know all about Judaism.

Of course, Shylock can be anti-semitic. The name comes from the Jew who is the villain of Shakespeare's play 'The Merchant of Venice', as you must know, given your 'pound of flesh' quip.

The use of the name carries anti-Semitic connotations. As a Christian, I find it offensive. I can only imagine how much more offensive it must be to Jews.

But there's no escaping the fact that you said: 'Jewish blood eh. No wonder he had his eyes on the cash'. This is a anti-Semitic slur, propagating the stereotype that Jews are greedy, stingy, money-obsessed usurers.

Why should it be 'disturbing' if/if Qarase had Jewish blood? If you find that disturbing, then I have even more disturbing news for you: so did our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

'Shylock', I am embarrassed for you and want no part in your 'New Fiji', which is beginning to resemble Nazi Germany.

Shylock said...

@ Mere

It's not the fact that LQ has Jewish blood but the context in which it was stated by an Anonymous blogger is what I find disturbing because it reminded me of a certain level of ignorance among Taukeis that was evident during the Speight initiated siege of Parliament when rumours were spread of Masonic activities linked with the late Tui Nayau. Were you there or was it your namesake ?It was all a lot of BS. Wow, what a great leap forward in imagination from Fiji to Nazi Germany. It's people like you who make some Taukeis more ignorant than they already are. The New Fiji is looking very very good to me.

Ganesh said...

Shylock, I agree with Mere. You're an anti-Semitic bigot.

And from your New Fiji to Nazi Germany is not much of a leap in imagination. Not much of a leap at all.

Shylock said...

@ Ganesh

Are you confused ? Do you not appreciate the New Fiji for all races, all Fijian by common name initiated by this regime ? Do you not remember the Fiji for Taukeis only promoted by LQ prior to 2006? We have one man one vote coming up. 18 year olds will be voting for the first time.A benchmark on abuse of public office has been set. Australia and New Zealand can hardly wait to come to our aid.We have our own national university. Reforms are taking place in all government ministries. Are you an anti-Indian bigot despite your name ?

Ganesh said...

Shylock, yes, I am confused. I'm confused by your line of thinking.

Let me see if I've got this straight. You choose an anti-Semitic slur as your pseudonym. Then you say that a claim that Qarase has some Jewish blood 'explains why he had his eyes on the cash'. Yet you suggest that I am the bigot here?

Just because I don't join you in support of a treasonous, despotic and corrupt regime, you think I'm an anti-Indian bigot? What kind of twisted logic is that?

Bainimarama overthrew Fiji's democratically-elected coalition government. If I'm also a Fijian, as you say, then, regardless how I voted, that was my government, too. Am I to appreciate its overthrow? No, I have the right and duty to resent and resist it.

I don't believe 'one man, one vote' will ever come under Bainimarama, unless that 'one man' is Bainimarama. The man is a cowardly, power-hungry, and inveterate liar. He will never voluntarily relinquish power.

Eighteen-year olds voting? How does that help ethnic Fijians, when that will increase the number of ethnic Fijian voters relative to ethnic Indians? But I've no objection. Bugger all the difference it will make when NObody's vote will count.

'A benchmark on abuse of office has been set' you say. Some benchmark! Arrest and jail your chief political opponent on trumped up charges so that he can't run against you. That's a benchmark, alright.  A new low.

Australia and New Zealand can't wait to come to our aid, you say. I guess this is a new boast for regime supporters who a week ago wrote off both of Fiji's traditional friends in favour of the Chinese and even now blame AUSAID for the regime's delays in paying its registrars. Both countries have come to Fiji's aid all along, even with Bainimarama in power, as have the Americans, Europeans, and Japanese. How much more once democracy is restored to Fiji?

Fiji's national university is a sad institution. I don't want to denigrate it, but neither is it worth a boast.

Reforms in the ministries, you say. Sure. Now Fiji has a Ministry of Justice, Electoral Reform, Public Enterprises, and Anti-Corruption that ended judicial independence, violates due process, denies the enfranchise, drives away investment, and practices corruption on an unprecedented scale. We also have a Ministry of Defence, National Security and Immigration that practices treason, plots to give Russia a naval base, and holds Fiji wide open to Chinese organised crime. Do I next need to discuss the Ministry for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation, or do you get the point by now? So much for the regime's 'reforms'.

No, I don't understand your thinking at all. Your excuses for anti-Semitic bigotry and treason make no sense at all.
