Aus Aid urged to verify regime story re clerks not getting paid

Clerks  training. file pic FBC
Registration clerks have been in touch to say there are holes in the explanation given by Mere Vuniwaqa about why they haven't been paid.

One of them says it was widely known the Permanent Secretary had told people they  wouldn't get money immediately.

"What the PS had told the workers - through the payments section in their office - was that they will receive pay after one month.

"Yet they want people to come as early as five in the morning to board transport to get to the registration centres. Those who live as far as Nausori and Korovou have to travel daily."

Vuniwaqa says the clerks who haven't been paid gave inadequate or wrong information for their bank accounts, and that some people had even go their names wrong.

But a source says the muck-up is unforgivable.

"The Government should not enslave our workers, especially the young ones who they say have a future because of the Constitution, Peoples Charter, etc.

"They should practice what they preach. Poor people are suffering while mastermind and cronies get different pay packs and always in advance or in time. This is hypocrisy and enslavery in its highest form."

Coupfourpointfive has been told that after the first story we ran early last month, Vuniwaqa called a meeting and told clerks and workers not to give out 'wrong information'.

He says with the UPP president, Mick Beddoes, raising the issue, she is now blaming people for giving wrong names and accounts for the discrepancies.

But he asks how come, as some workers have said, their last pay managed to get into their account?

Vuniwaqa said yesterday that a number of issues have occurred over name matching. She said in order for the bank to process a payment, the name provided to the Elections Office must match exactly the one on the bank’s records.

"If the name in the bank’s files, for example, includes a middle name or middle initial, this would be required for payment to be accepted."

Vuniwaqa also said the AusAid Human Resources official working with the Elections Office had confirmed the Office's story that almost half of the registration clerks have to be paid by cheque because of ongoing issues with their bank account details.
Our source says Vuniwaqa's information should be independently verified: "Can the Australian High Commission office answer the allegation by Madam PS?"

Hey,if the illegal PM & AG are rippin off the country's economy
why not,allow the rest
of their illegal staff to do the same? Why trash Beddoes, when he,s
only trying to tell it as he was told? Mick, move over to the SDL time to change your party!

Hahahaha what a joke. Who will in their right mind give false details when they're working for money? Stop lying Mere Vuniwaqa and tell us the true story. Someone higher up is forcing you to lie through your teeth.

I like the SDL submission to the Ghai Commission? GCC & President

your idea?

Every one will be happy and its legal.
We feel sorry for this hard working people .

Some people still cannot learn! The GCC is gone and will never come back ever!Likewise the SDL is gone also, never to come back! Those who are still there are just trying to get to the funds of the party left by their leader in Korovou. He will be transfered to Naboro tomorrow to serve his time at the Maximum block. There is going to be an attempt to get him out one of this nights because he cannot stand the pressure from those within!

Fiji is the name of our country and the term FIJIAN identifies Nationality! IT IS NOT A NAME OF A RACE, period.
Fiji was discovered by dutch sailor Abel Tasman in 1643.He named the isles FEEJEE.Had he called the country " Little Holland after his homeland than you definitely would NOT be Dutch also!
This is like Aborignes saying Australian should be refered to them only or Maoris saying New Zealander is only to be used by them (bcos lutunasoasoba came first)
TIME TO STOP THIS NONSENSE. Everyone born/bred or every citizen IS A FIJIAN! DONT LIKE IT? BAD LUCK!

The word Fijian means Vitian in our native language. As an indigenous person of this country I am very much interested in maintaining this because it is connected to my land, language, culture and identity. Of course other ethnic groups within Fiji will also want to preserve what are uniquely there's. I could not understand why move into this sensitive area. What's the motive pls.

Pls do not force this to the original owner of this good land.

I would prefer Indo Fijian meaning that they still would like to preserve their traditional culture while residing in Fiji. Something like the Afro American, etc

AusAID if you're reading this ask the lying Vuniwaqa why the subsistence allowance was two weeks late.

OK, even if she is telling the truth about the bank account details, which does not explain why all salaries are/were late, ask her what those EVR clerks were supposed to live on.

They were supposed to get $100 for seven days, every seven days to pay for meals at $4.75 per meal. But this was delayed and theyhad to live on tap water and bread.

AusAID ask her why they are living 27 to a room at a crappy Lautoka backstreet hotel.

Ask her why the lot accommodated at Cathay were tossed out for non payment. The bitch is lying.

This exercise is an epic fail because guess what?

To get their revenge the EVR clerks are short-cutting the system and faking the registrations just to get the numbers up.

The old saying, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

Look it is not superficial as you may think. It is something to do with the spirit of the Vanua which can not be understood by other ethnic groups. It is not only through physical attributes and food and dress. It is about indigenous culture, tradition and other unexplained staff ...only people who have root on our land can be connected to. The Hawaiians and other groups have almost lost them and we can not afford to loose them. All these Taukei in the current government know what I am talking about here but they haven chosen to deliberately ignore this. They are living in denial and this kind of thing will begin to eat them from within and this is very very sad. But the people of the Land will always have some thing to hang onto ...something real ...passed through generations to us and then to our children.

I only hope that all those that can not understand this will in future will be able to see this reality.

Our intention is NOT to fight with other ethnic groups but to keep on highlighting what needs to be undertood by every one even those young people that have not been to their yavus...the susumadarais. We need to forster good understand with one another.

Then who are the indigenous? Everyone all over the world has to to come from somewhere and if they have settled in a country for more than a thousand years doesn't that make their descendant indigenous irrespective of where they are from originally? Your comment means that all the Pacific Islanders are not indigenous...and that means all the Red indians in the U.S. Aborigines etc...etc...BTY even Indians have to originate from somewhere...they don't just pop up from the soil or fall from the sky...The different Indian languages all belong to the Indo Aryan language which is the subgroup of the Indo-European language ( Germanic, Greek,...etc)...Voila...
so what if the Australians call Radike ...Afro...it clearly shows how naive most people in Australia are when it comes to race...
The Fijian language is the oldest of the Polynesian languages within the Austronesian s group .
3000 years after our ancestors left Africa...the language has changed and is no way related to any mainland African language..
The difference between the Indians Diaspora ( including the Europeans who have called themselves Australians or Kiwis)is that we have our language which is well established...You are still using the watered down version of the mother-tongue.

When God supposed created earth, was Fiji there or a disintegration of the earth caused Fiji to come into being?

At the time FEEJEE was dicovered by Capt Bligh, he has not recorded any sightings of human beings on his FEEJEE. So the worh FEEJEE (now Fiji) is a Dutch word and not what you all wish to be as indigenous people. I would rather be called an itaukei which is our language and do not have a problem with Fijian for everybody born here. And the itaukei have not lived on these island for zillions of years, we have lived here for what history tell us is no more than just over a thousand years. Where has our sharing & caring nature gone to that we cannot share what was never our from the time our forefathers landed on the shores of these island? As far as I a concerned, every person born in FIJI has every reason and right to be called a Fijian ... matamu!

Who discovered who?

I am sorry the Vitians, Indegenous people or Taukei, what ever names we call oursleves are not object of facination to be studied by the West. Our forefathers were just where they were when suddenly a vulagi emerge out of the blue (we should have roasted them..Hah..hah). That incident does not give any right for them and for those that are using that metanarrative as their point of departure in arguaing against the people of the land. We are the people of the land and will remain as people of the land despite your copy cat ideas from the Colonizers and land grabbers which still perpetuate today. You also have a root soemwhere and we also have a root but the difference is that, WE KNOW OUR ROOT AND WE WOULD LIKE TO PERSERVE AND PROTECT THEM FROM POWER HUNGRY MONSTERS. You need to study what had ahappened to other indegenous groups in the world and the desparate situation they are in today. Their source and means of lively hood had been taken away from them and they are being blamed as lazy and dirty people. They were made to be laike that by those superrior people. That will nevr happen under our watch, we are the people of the land will make sure this will not happen.

People of the Land said...

Anonymous 7.34pm. So indirectly you are saying that Christianity is synonymous to criminal behavior. There are other factors that may influence people to commit crime. If you are an indigenous person you would not have blamed your fellow men. What is your definition of a Christian nation? what about Muslim countries like Iran etc. have you found out what percentage of the prison population are Muslims. Are you a real Christian? Have you judged some one? Please your comment seems outdated and lack originality. If you remove things that protect and unify indigenous people ...this is what will happen. Look around you ...the Red Indians, Aborigines, Maori etc. We are all sinners but people are trying very hard to be good citizens and we need each other especially I Taukei.

Anonymous said...

And I thought all along that the Fijian (the i-taukei) is bigger and better than all this! The i-taukei will always be the indigenous, the guardian, the owner and the saviour of this great land. All else and sundry are just passing through, making claims and mocking others (themselves?) To the i-taukei, honour your heritage and be in charge of destiny. Respect.

Anonymous said...

Anon, 8 Aug, 2012; 7:37AM - The Fijian is NOT playing a guardian to the land since 05/12/2006 what does this mean; simple, we are not bothered? Why? because intuition tells us we are NOT the indigenous, we are NOT the owners and we certainly are NOT the saviour of this land. Should we trace our ancestors routes to their homeland? I am sure our intuition will awaken us to guard, own and save those lands, PERIOD. Fiji Islands is for our brothers & sisters of all ethinicties that were born here ... Matamu!

@ People of the land..I am not saying that Christianity
is synonymous with criminality. Chrsitianity just as belonging to a denomination does not guarantee good behaviour. Leading an upright life comes by choice and a choice to uplift Christ's principles depending on how much faith one has. Sa rui levu na vakavanuataki ni lotu e Viti!!..Chirstianity should unify in the spirit of Love for our Lord, it is not a social network!

Anonymous said...

Thumbs Up was silent and one person to another. If you weren't there and looking, you didn't see it.

Even so, it frightened the regime enough that Croz Walsh tried to twist it into meaning support FOR the dictatorship.

Jericho is loud -- correction, LOUD. Even if you're not participating, you'll hear those who are. Even if you aren't listening, the sound will carry your way.

The key is the first minute proposed by Dakuwaqa. It is a minute of soul-searching.

If M-Minute comes and you do nothing to stand up for Fiji, then you'll have done nothing for your soul.

Operation Jericho, Suva, Wednesday, 26 September, precisely 7:00 p.m. Prepare to make a joyful noise.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous 10:29, you sound just like that illiterate lout Bainimarama -- 'this will be the end of those behind it'.

So, you really think we're gonna believe that you're going to kill everyone for the 'crime' of spending a minute cheering Fiji? You try that and see how long YOU live.

Shows exactly the mindset of those who support this regime and prop it up through intimidation and stupidity.

Operation Jericho is designed to be nonviolent. If it becomes violent, we now know who will have been the cause: regime thugs like you.

I know it hurts your head, but think about it. It's in the regime's PERSONAL interest that no violence occurs. Enough said.

Call out all of the RFMF and the police, if you dare. Let them hear the din from Operation Jericho themselves.

Patriotic elements within both forces have time enough to plan for their own follow-on to M-Minute. Don't be so sure that they wont launch their own operation before, during, or after M-Minute.

Come make your own noise. Gunshot or weeping and wailing. Doesn't matter, either way.

Together, Operation Jericho.
