Nailatikau to stay Fiji president until December

Nailatikau: Still in the game. pic MINFO
Epeli Nailatikau's three year term as illegal president has been extended for another two months.

It officially came to an end last Friday but has been stretched to December on the grace of the illegal leader, Frank Bainimarama.

Sources say the decision to keep Nailatikau on was made at a meeting by the Military Council (meeting for the first time since 2010) - two weeks ago.

The first draft of the new Constitution is expected to be made public in December and it's thought Nailatikau's term has been extended to accomodate this.

Public consultations wrapped up this week with the Commission holding its final round of hearings at Rotuma Gov’t Station, Moala and Lakeba.

Commission chair Yash Ghai has told media they were hoping to finish the draft before Christmas to allow the public time to study the draft and give their comments before it's submitted to the Constituent Assembly.

Ghai says the drafting has been ongoing 'in terms of loading submissions into a database'. "I can’t talk about the final copy as we have not finished it, but we have been working quite hard to meet the deadline."

The draft copy will be circulated to members of the public with a short document, about 20-25 pages long, which will explain the contents of the constitution. It will be in the three main languages.

The public will get between Christmas and early January to study the draft and submit their comments after which it will be passed on to the Constituent Assembly in late January.

Editor's Note: Sources meanwhile say the illegal attorney general who was reportedly in Suva Private Hospital is back at work. Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum has been rumoured to have kidney problems.

It is human instinct that will always convey a message across to fellow human beings that the subconscious mind will always try to usurp the truth of a situation.

The inner battle will always result in internal organs and blood stream to rage against the normal process of God given life.

I am not surprised that Mr Kaihum is now facing a dilemma in life.

He needs to just be honest to himself and face the truth.

The issues of Fiji become a christian state is a non issue to us the the indegenous because Fiji was declared a Christian state under God the creator of the Heaven and Earth through his Son Christ in 1874.

Whether you like it or NOT Fiji has been a Christian state since then and to the SDL and party and all the crtitics, our fore fathers have already done this for us knowing that things will change in a post-modern era.

Praise be to God the King of Fiji and the peiople of the land.

Oh ..well..Fij,you all have 2 early Christmas presents….

(1)A astute former Commander of the RFMF as President to seal the deal .

(2).uh…and Chrisy paper warped draft of the Constitution that will spell who we are, what we be called, who’s gonna hold the whip to drive all us to the next election.

Why give the last pre–Coup Commander only 64 days?..give him till 2014..or else…bring in Fiji Statesman Major General Sitiveni L Rabuka….just that he may be the best to sign off a final constitution affording absolute immunity to all political prisoners and wheelers and dealers since May 14 1987!!

..of course…of course…with appropriate compensation for lives lost as a result of Coups killings and incapacitated and loss of real property….please, no compensation to retrospective loss of business or anything else!!

Oh…all we wanna know is who controls the President and PM’s wardrobes …Goodness… are they on a fashion parade or what?..ia, o ira na Turaga ni “Ubuna!

More than 400 school children waited in the rain unable to cross the Nalele Bridge in Waiyevo, Taveuni, after it collapsed while a heavily-laden truck was crossing it.
Branch manger Pacific Transport Limited Prakash Sami yesterday reported to the Fiji Sun that the wooden bridge had been in poor condition for a long time and many complaints about the bridge were made to the authorities.
“Six month ago we made an official complaint to the Engineer Northern of the Roads Authority however we did not see any action taken,” Mr Sami said.
Fiji Roads Authority’s Mike Rudge said his team had received a report on the incident and had deployed a team to try and restore access by today.

PACIFIC Transport has expressed concern at the deteriorating road conditions on Taveuni.

Pacific Transport manager Prakash Sami said the worsening road condition was affecting their services to the northern and southern ends of Taveuni.

"There is nobody else that suffers but the villagers who live in these areas as they have to pay a lot to get to where the services are," said Mr Prakash.

Director Roads John Luveniyali said the road at the north end of the island had been repaired while work was beginning on the road to the south end.

He said Taveuni received high rainfall all year round which affected the road conditions. "Plans are underway to upgrade the new Vuna coastal road at the southern end but we await funding for the project," he said.

MORE than 100 passengers and motorists were left stranded on either side of the Nalele bridge on Taveuni after it collapsed yesterday afternoon.

Fiji Roads Authority manager change Mike Rudge confirmed this saying a 10-tonne truck crossed the wooden bridge leading to the mishap.

"We can confirm that the bridge collapsed and our team is at the site directing the traffic," Mr Rudge said.

"The truck veered off the bridge but no one was hurt. Heavy loaded trucks usually travel through the bridge causing further damage."

He said officials on the island would provide an alternative route for the public to allow movement this morning.

"By this morning, we hope travel will be normal as a temporary route will be provided for them."

The Nalele bridge, Mr Rudge said, was one of the 30 in the country identified for further repair works.

"There have been concerns raised about this bridge and we will fix it for the purpose of avoiding traffic chaos," he said.

"The bridge will be maintained based on the extensive damage, traffic, risks and safety issues and we are also looking into putting bailey bridges."

The Taveuni Taxi Union said it had previously raised its concerns on the issue and it was time the authorities addressed this to avoid fatal accidents.

Someone notes: 'Two years out from the 2014 election and they thinking of changing the president?' and then asks 'where is this going?'

The short answer is 'nowhere.' Fiji is going to be in the same predicament, only more so.

Nailatikau's term as President was extended two more months, we're told. Oh, really, by who? According to one of the regime's first illegal decrees, that authority now supposedly rests with the Cabinet, which is of course controlled by Bainimarama and Khaiyum.

Bainimarama has been planning to take the presidency for himself for two years now. Dakuwaqa warned us of this from the beginning, with his '18th Brumaire of Frank Bainimarama' thesis.

Bainimarama wants to wait until Yash Ghai claims that the sentiment is there to change Fiji to a more presidential system with wider powers for the presidency. Then he'll have the Cabinet appoint him to that position and give him sweeping new powers. He certainly doesn't want to do that now while the Americans are weighing economic sanctions against Fiji.

That's one of the interesting things about the UPP's submission. It focuses on curtailing the powers now speciously imputed to the presidency at the very time that Bainimarama wants to begin rolling out the idea of a stronger presidency for Fiji... and himself.

Yes, Aiyaz has done more to destroy Fiji than any other man, with the possible exceptions of Bainimarama and/or Rabuka.
