Who will unite the democracy movement for 2014?

Which leader will step up to unite Fiji? And will the political parties, trade unions, NGOs, chiefs and church leaders unite and fall behind them?

"If the chiefs and leaders cannot act today and rise up, they may hold their tongue and not speak ever. For when today becomes history tomorrow, they themselves will either be the reason to be applauded or ashamed by their children."

There are questions aplenty about 2014 but one fact is undeniable: the regime wants to stay in power and will do everything it can to achieve that.

What are the possibilities and what is it going on in the minds of Khaiyum and his cohorts?

The regime’s plan is obviously to demolish political parties which in turn allow them to reduce the number of opposition members in the constituent assembly. Hence, we can safely assume and, of course, with no surprises that the new constitution will be based on the needs of the regime and military.  The new constitution will surely have the immunity clauses and certain advantages for the regime for the upcoming so-called election, if it ever happens at all. However, the announcement that one has to give up military portfolios if they are to form a party or join as a party executive, rings alarm bells for the future of Bainimarama.

There is no doubt that Bainimarama will slide nicely in to the role of the president in the very near future.  It may happen before or after the new constitution.  If it is to happen before, then Banimarama will pack Nailatikau’s bags and send him on an overseas assignment, most likely as the high commissioner to London or China where the perks would be much more interesting.

When Bainimarama becomes the president there are no real issues in terms of immunity, his role as the commander of the forces and, of course, as the president he will still have the power to oversee the elections process, even if all the current ministerial portfolios are dissolved before the elections. If this is going to happen after the constitution, then Fiji is about to see a constitution with executive presidency similar to the United States.

If we are to go with the assumption that the new constitution will have an executive president, then it would be very interesting to see the process which will be unfolded before us. The best guess would be that the new constitution will be endorsed by the assembly and the president before April. Once it is endorsed, the regime would want to show the whole world that it has been accepted by the people. In this case we should expect a snap election whereby the people of Fiji will have to vote to accept the new constitution and at the same time vote for their choice of the new president.

The names of Nailatikau and Bainimarama will be the regime’s choice as candidates while the political parties would struggle to find an individual whom they all agree with.  Even if the political parties unite and agree on one individual as their choice for the next president, Bainimarama will try to win this election at any cost. The regime will invite the international community to become the independent monitors and all possible measures will be taken to show that it is free and fair. The outcome would certainly be the crowning of Bainimarama as president.

Once this is in place, the rest will become a walk in the park for Khaiyum and co. There will be some noise from the opposition but everything will subside and international communities and agencies will applaud the new president. Most of all, the majority of the people of Fiji will start to believe that this is the government that will rule Fiji for a very long time; the faith in chiefs, political parties will diminish and they will welcome the known devil than the unknown angel.

When Bainimarama becomes the president the parliamentary elections would probably follow after a year or most likely in 2014 as promised. The new constitution is also likely to have the proportional system where the party leaders can nominate members to the parliament without having to contest the elections. For an example, the party with 60% votes can nominate 6 members and the opposition parties may do so as well depending on the percentages voted for them.  This will be proposed as a way of bringing brains to the cabinet, but not necessarily through votes of people. At the end it will be the Bainimarama regime over again, but this time it will be accepted worldwide.

What would be the change that the majority of Fiji is waiting for and what will opposition parties and organizations do?

Many blame games are being played even today. Many blame the international community for supporting the regime and elections process. Do they really have a choice? There is no active resistance or force against the regime and there is no other leadership which they can support. The only option is to ensure the elections process will continue, in the hope that the regime will be defeated.  On the other hand many locally and internationally are blaming Fijians for their own plight. However, one has to understand the culture, upbringing, respect to the leaders and elders and humble, innocent life style of Fijians. The issue, though, is that our agents to overseas communities are not passing this very fact on as an issue so there is intervention before the patient dies a slow death.

The very existence of political parties is to prepare, take part and influence people to vote for them and finally to win to be in the parliament and as the ruling government. Because of the very fact of their existence, they will continue to believe in elections and work towards it. This is the biggest dilemma faced by the ordinary people who are wanting democracy and an end to the military rule. The people are only looking at political parties, what they say, what they do and how they're going to tackle the regime and most of all how they are going to end it. People are looking for leadership to look up to and expect them to make the impossible, possible.

Today, the only leadership they can see in Fiji is Bainimarama and the cohorts. Political parties do issue statements which come and go while some are looking at ways of defying them such as the political party decree. But do the people of Fiji have confidence in political parties even though they may have the numbers on the ground to topple the military regime by way of elections or otherwise? Where is the leadership that Fiji is yearning for? Who are the real leaders of Fiji and who can bring about the change the majority is starving for?

The traditional leadership, the chiefs guided by the spiritual leadership, would be the answer. However, many question the leadership of the chiefs and some even tend to question their existence today and support the abolishment of the GCC. Are they just another self-serving group concerned about the privileges but not the responsibilities that comes with the title? Where and what are they doing? There is no question that the people of Fiji still respect them as traditional leaders anointed by God.

They are still playing a key role in the society and the institutions such as GCC are the pillars that bound the nation to her history and traditions. The vanua is the base of all structures in Fiji and the chiefs are the leaders and administers of those structure. However, in terms of politics, people only see or hear about Ro Teimumu Kepa and she has been standing like a rock and mother to the nation.  Some may still argue that it is purely due to her affiliation with SDL and her political background.

The traditions of Fiji, the chiefs and the entire history together with them are facing a great danger today. A nation becomes a floating nation with the destruction of her history, traditions and pillars such as GCC. A nation that is floating can be easily manipulated by the self-serving rulers, invisible invasions by foreign entities and so forth. However, the voice and strength of the Chiefs and the church are dangerously suppressed by the regime. The one and only possibility of a great threat to the regime has been silenced systematically.  What are the possibilities of them coming out at this very time, and how?

The only possible entry to the scene of politics and the question of ever craving leadership would be the so-called political party decree. The chiefs will have to come out to unite the nation irrespective of whether they want to be seen in politics, to play a political role or to support the political parties. Many things have been said about the word “politics” in recent times. Some said that they are not politicians while others said that they do not want to be involved in politics.

Politics is about administering a group of people for their well being, adherence to rule of law and to guide them on the right path. This includes chiefs, the religious organizations and each and every individual in a society. Politics is everyone’s business and no one can shy away from the responsibility. If anyone interprets the word "politics" to imply the modern day politics, then they may be doing so as an act of cowardice or to shy away from their responsibility.

In summary, all these entities should come together and unite as one. There should only be one political party to oppose the regime with the one and only intention to bring the country to true democracy. The chiefs and church may not want to be involved directly. However, they can offer their blessings and guidance to form such party. The new party may consider working with the regime to push them towards the true democracy, but not the one they are planning to build for Fiji. If this is not the case, then the new party can agree to go for elections only with the mandate that they will have elections within a short time period again with an agreed constitution. At this juncture the existing political parties can go on their own and contest elections once again. But they all should unite today, irrespective of whether they decide to work with the regime or otherwise.

This would be a hard ask for traditional political parties that existed in Fiji for generations such as SDL, FLP and NFP to name a few. However we have already seen the dissolution of SDL, SVT and UPP, while the new SDL and FLP is looking at ways of adhering with the decree and deploying the troops on membership registration drives. We have also seen and heard stories about defying the decree either by registering without adhering to the conditions or challenge in court. In any case, if these parties do not adhere to the conditions set, they will cease to exist. Moreover,  there is no such guarantee that a party will be registered and accepted even after adhering with the conditions. It would be very difficult for traditional parties to accept that they will not have their party in existence, even for a short period of time and the fear of losing their vote base, the authority and the influence they have over their respective communities will be a question.

In any case, there is no question that unity will be the key, along with leadership. Who will lead this? Will the chiefs finally understand their role and responsibility towards their nation? Will they be ready to sacrifice whatever they may be for their people? Will they see that the people of Fiji is the paramount responsibility? Will the political parties leave their differences aside to come together? Can all of them see that the nation is bigger than anything else would be the biggest question and answer to the future of Fiji and her children.  If the chiefs and leaders cannot act today and rise up, they may hold their tongue and not speak ever. For when today becomes history tomorrow, they themselves will either be the reason to be applauded or ashamed by their children.

You "Essay" is not but presumptions. And as they say "Presumptions are the motherof all fuckups".
You are promoting church leaders to be in politics. We have seen all over the world as to what happens when you mix religion with politics. It's a disaster. Why do we need the GCC?Do we really need them to act as a parrelel government? They are not elected so there goes your democracy.
Union leaders are good as long as they deal with union matters.Mix them with politics and they dont serve either office any justice.
The only future we have today is a new constituion and an elected govt to carry on with the good work of the current government.
The Bainimarama govt is the best hope for Fiji.

But the military and politics is a good mix.
You must think everyone is an IDIOT like you.
In Fiji everyone knows the military getting mixed up in politics is the cause of our troubles. everything else is bullshit.

If we did not have the chiefs and the church involved in the 1987 and 2000 coups, there would not bhave been a 2006 coup.
If the church and the cheifs were not so deeply involved in the qarase govt and influencing decisions than there would not have been a 2006 coup.
Nobody likes coups.
Even Bainimarama did not want to carry out the coup.It was the arrogance of the qarase govt that led to the coup.We all know that.If you guys want to call me names...well that proves your level of mentality.

I hope it can be withdrawn man.You are deluded, alluding to Christian leaders when you speak of spiritual/religious leaders=what about the Muslim imamas and Hindu pundits? Do not they qualify? What world are you living in tacina! You are clearly a memeber of the dying breed who want Fiji only for the Fijians and paramountcy at all cost. Well it ain't gonner happen anymore mate because the itaukei are more educated nowadays and not dumb followers who will be beguiled by the uneducated chiefs. Perceptions are all that matter!! The negativity of the opposition and most people in this forum doesn't count for nothing as long as many children get bus vouchers, villagers in rural areas feel that development is materializing, more jobs are available, recovery efforts from natural disasters are real and effective, people are paying less taxes with more take home pay, civil servants are getting better pay and are working harder, government services are improving, people perceive that they can make complaints to FICAC, social welfare access is expanded, and inflation is declining overall since 2010. People overseas do not realize this. The loyal opposition is such a cry baby and stomper and so stuck up with their democracy agenda that they are failing to see a new age of stability setting in - sure does confirm how they have been so out of touch before 2006 - and voters in both rural and urban areas realize this. You try and beat that perception. Voters do not really care what the opposition wants as long as they feel that they are secure. That is why the majority of the common people are not rising up against this government – they feel they are secure or something is being actually done to improve their overall condition and also because the alternative - a return to pre-2006 means only a return to racial divide and political instability and general mistrust in and cynicism against local politicians and their ability to get done what Bainimarama has done in recent years. And so far Bainimarama is offering security and social and economic advancement while these other parties only harp about taking us back to volatile times before 2006. Sure advancement is being made through the rule of the gun and sure some things being said about government maybe true, but qarase and chaudhry’s hands were not entirely clean either - with evidence to boot – LQ in prison, MC facing criminal charges, and Rajendra Chaudhry being an incompetent lawyer. So far I have not seen anything equally positive or even better being proposed by political parties when they return to power. Come to think of it, the platform of these political parties have in the past been relatively shallow compared to this Govt's actions. Governing and the upcoming campaigning should be about leadership, and honest and constructive debates resulting in the best ideas winning through for the people. Government [let us assume that Govt is not standing in the next elections] is doing this even while the loyal opposition is taking a holiday from history and trying to topple govt. So far I don't see any good or better ideas being proposed by the same parties that have been in control for so long [that you would be convinced that they actually are better than the current government]. And Govt has not even said whether they will stand in the next elections. How's that for perception!

Editor - I commend your analysis of the present situation the the likely options towards 2014. Here is my summary.

Bainimarama is definetly setting up a flawed/quasi democratic system for 2014. This system will have a President with executive authority. Appointment of cabinet will be the sole perogative of the President. Hence the entite corrupt members of the military regime will become clean and legitimate cabinet of HE the President Bainimarama in 2014.

The parliament will merely be a toothless tiger approving bills presented to it by Khaiyum the legal AG( from 2014 sep). Even if SDL/FLP win 100% of all parliamenatry seats, they will not be in cabinet. They will be confined to parliament only.

This model is the only way out for Fiji as it cannot escape the 2014 deadline now. And, more importantly, it preserves the regime in a democratic garb. The Ghai draft was unworkable for the regime on account of the following;

1. Bainimarama can not resign from the RFMF as Commander due to insecurity.

2. He cannot form a political party and win a fair elections.

3. He cant disclose his incomes/assets which rans in hundreds of millions over 7 years.

So, in the interest of self preservation and ongoing enrichement (thanks to Nur Bano and Nazhat Shameem) the Presidential model will be the way forward.

The only problems which stand in the way is;

1. Removal of Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Adi Koila from the white House?

2. Stacking of the Constituent Assembly after the windng up of FLP/SDL/NFP.

3. Acceptence of the 2013 Khaiyum Constitution by CA and then by the International community.

The people of Fiji have only one option to stop the entrenchement of khaiyum government for next 20 years. UNITY.

ONLY a peoples coup cant stop Khaiyum ruling fiji through HE the President for another 20 years. The choice the clear. SDL/NFP/FLP/FTUC/FICTU/GCC/ CHURCHES/ AND ALL PEOPLE OF FIJI WAKE UP AND STOP THE KHAIYUM RULE NOW OR NEVER.

6. Parliamenatry Election date for 2013 confirmed.

oow...so under the 2013 Khaiyum Constitution - Fiji will have a dictator President(unelected) but Constitutional, unelected cabinet with Khaiyum as Prime Minister, Nazhat Shameem as CJ and Nur Bano as Finance Minister.
Parliament dominated by new SDL and FLP. (NFP winding up on saturday 10th for failing to get 5000 members).
Dictator President and unelected cabinet will rein supreme over elected parliament. In teh final analysis - instead of having liberal demomocracy, with parliamentary supremacy, we will have khaiyum supremacy. unelected cabinet through dictator President is acceptable to mother fucker bob carr but GCC appointed President is NOT.

The news of the khaiyum constitution providing a dictatorship president and unelected cabinet is tragic. Its time, now to appoint Ro Temumu Kepa as new SDL leader, FLP/NFP to join forces with SDL under Ro Temumu, FICTU/FTUC and all NGOS join in to save Fiji from Khaiyum and bainimarama. We cant have a unelected President/ unaccountable and unelected cabinet and a toothless parliament. Now wonder Bainimara told the troops be prepared for suprises. This is what he was talking about.

'Chandrika Prasad' is right on the money. Unity is the only way we can reclaim our nation back from all of 2 people.

It may sound trivial but the united power of The People is the illegal and treasonous regimes biggest fear. It is what gives them many a sleepless night. They will jump at any ripple of discontent by taxpayers and voters lest it erupt into something that wrestles their hold on power.

Did Mary Bainimarama or interventions by the Catholic Church alone save Fr Kevin Barr from his almost hasty departure? No. It was an incensed public that took to letter writing and social media that got them all anxious.

Even Shazzer (read: & Grubby and QORVIS) knows the power of the 'coconut wireless' and that's why they monitor the blogs religiously so that they can always keep their finger on the pulse of the public mood.

Will the international community accept 'Khaiyum constitution 2013' which will see the Constitutional Dictatorship? Bainimarama as President? Khaiyum as executive Prime Minister? Nazhat Shameem as CJ? Nur Bano as Finance Minister? Parliament as toothless tiger? Khaiyum rule for 20 years? NO NO NO NO NO.....Naheee........

juluumbaat said...

The Bainimarama-Khaiyum "true democracy" will mean a "constitutional dictatorship" for Fiji. And,some analyst like Paul Buchannan and Greg Sheridan and Foreign state officials like Bob Carr and Mc cully find that quite ok!
They can't understand why the people in a banana republic should be expecting anything better than what the military dictatorship is giving them.
The people of fiji are so unrealistic.
They must learn to live with what they have - and not bother them.

Anonymous said...

So Bob Carr and Murray McCully, prefers a constituional dictatorship/unelected cabinet and a subservient Parliament in Fiji? What happened to Parliament is supreme concept which NZ and Australia has? Why do Fijian have to live with unelected executive bob carr? For once, stop puting Australia's vested interest before the freedom of fijians. Why go through this facade of constitution making, instead just make Bainimarama the king of Fiji and khaiyum Prince Taliban and Fiji can be a kingdom instead of a democratic country?

Khaiyum can reject your application to register .
all political party gone .khaiyum /bai laughing all the way in power to rule .
no opposition in 2014 election.
we have to stick with 1997 constitution and april 2009 court ruling.
united force is needed to oppose this illegal CA/Khaiyum Constitution.Reject it.
People had made the submission to prof Ghai CC and people dont want any immunity given to the regime.

Bob Carr loser rejected the provision in Ghai draft for GCC to elect a President claiming GCC is an undemocratic organisation. But Mr Carr, electing is still better that self imposed President which the "khaiyum Draft Constitution" contains. Or you still have your narrow colonial hang over Carr?

Mr Bob Carr, please be advised, we the people of Fiji have haf enough of these two poofters you're praising, what they're to us is beyond.belief.

We want the 1999 consititution back, because it protects evetybody regardless of race gender or color, Bainimarama and Kaiyum both must go now, we don't need your opinion on this, we just need your support

We want our constitution back and true democracy restored. If you can't hear our plea, then I suggest to you Mr Carr, you go fuck tthose in the arse, maybe you're good at

it would be very hard to topple this government!

the itaukei culture is so subservient, the culture has always breed that you respect your elders , follow whatever they say, whatever they say is correct, never question adults...etc
in some ways it has its pros, but cons outweigh the pros( for the time we live in). for one it does not allow itaukei to think outside the box.it takes away our ability to make decision, so any decision you make is predictive. so may of us itaukei ( not all) , our evolution to being proficient human beings only moves at a snails pace. the idea of us to do better than our parents is highly unlikely in Fiji ( maybe a small percentage will)

an educated man like MR Aiyazz knows this. by no means of intention he now understands the itaukei culture can be manipulated so easily so the masses do not step out of line.
I've always said, if a itaukei graduates from University with honors , he comes home and if his Dad tells him "black is white" his answer will be "black is white ".

the war against this government will be a long and hard.

in order to wake the Itaukei up , we need " Faces" not voices of faceless man/woman whispering about change.

Change doesn't come if we pray for it, change occurs when action is taken.

god bless Fiji!

Stop with the bagging of McCully and Carr, these guys are not going to lift a finger unless the ordinary citizens of Fiji start standing for their rights.
A leader needs to stand up and rally the people to march down the streets of Suva.

Nothing will stop the regime from adopting a constitution which will make Bainimarama the Executive President of Fiji. He will have ultimate power to appoint the judiciary, police, miliatry and cabinet. Khaiyum will be the Prime Minister. The plot is so obvious why thet burned the ghai draft. Fijians and Indians has to unite and mobile in thousands around the main centres in Fiji. 50,000 must sit in albert park, 30,000 in Lautoka and 20,000 in Labasa. Then only the regime will bring back the ghai draft. Bob Carr and John key will not save fiji. They pay lip service to Fiji and its citizens. Our destiny is in our hands. cant rely on NZ and bob carr to fight our war can we?

hey dumbwit, you say you are poor and yet you in this forum, it certainly does not make you poor, its makes you ignorant poor dumbwit. Ignorant too of the fact that the PER was lifted last year and these politicians have had all this time to talk positive stuff. They do not need to scared about talking about positive stuff that they can bring to the table do they? They only need to be scared about talking about you know what. And since last year let's not deny that they have been in full campaign mode and honestly I have yet to hear anything positive about their vision for Fiji. all they talk about is returning Fiji to democracy? Last i checked their brand of democracy included the reconciliation bill, amnesty clause, Sunday Ban and these other goodies that earned them the Army's boot in 2006.
And yes Govt has done something good for my community, things that the SDL or FLP never did. And many rural people agree.
Results matter idiot, whether PM stands or not, as far as I am concerned Govt is doing something for me and that's all that matters. If SDL and FLP can offer something better than I will take a look at that too.

Some mahen Chaudhry arse licker using Baini regime's corrupt practices to hide/justify mahen's $2m stash. He said money came from harayana and people are not complaining. You liar! People didn't even know mahen had money. Mahen was hiding it until victor lal blew the lid.

People are starving in India. Most people send money to Indian. What does mahen do? Takes $2m out of this very poor country. what a shameless, greedy man. India is full of beggars but mahen is the biggest beggar of all.

I have every right to 'beat my chest' over this on the blog to expose mahen's greed and cunning, and to show he is not 'champion' of poor but 'user' of poor. he use their name to line his pockets and feather his nest.

The mahen licker says bainimarama cleared chaudhry and said he can keep money. he also says Bainmarama regime is tyranical. If regime is tyrannical, why you using its name to save your master?

mahen was finance minister in this regime. he corruptly approved bainia's 150k backpay. baini in return cleared him of the $2m fraud. both men scratching each other arses. both bloody corrupt.

I am not a 'greed driven lich', your leader mahen is. Pretending to be champion of poor while using poors' name to collect money for his secret account. That is a greed driven leech.

C4.5 editor will publish this to ensure transparency and expose treasonists, crooks, opportunities and hypocites like mahen.

So, now it's accepted as common knowledge that Bainimarama will take the presidency, but it wasn't so a year ago. Then, most commentators assumed Bainimarama would run for PM. But one perceptive individual foresaw it back then and warned us of it repeatedly. Remember his C4.5 posting from February 17, 2012?

"Bainimarama doesn't like the day-to-day problems of governing. He'd prefer to retire in pseudo-dignity as Fiji's president. He dare not relinquish real power for fear of prosecution for his many crimes; therefore, don't be surprised when he vastly expands the powers of the presidency and has himself named to the office by the Cabinet, which he controls, of course. By the same logic, he will need to retain the power to intervene decisively in Fiji's political affairs for the rest of his life.

"We've seen this before, with the 18th Brumaire of Louis Napoleon. Napoleon had himself made President-for-Life and then crowned Emperor Napoleon III one year later. As was said of 18th Brumaire holds true for Fiji today: 'History tends to repeat itself -- the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce'."

Yes, it looks like our friend Dakuwaqa was right all along.

I live in the rural area and I know the feelings and increased hardship people face since this idiot halfwit dictator came to power. Even people who initially supported Frank have to see the truth that this coup is all about protecting Frank's ass. If Frank is running around giving freebies it's understandable his life depends on it.

Anonymous said...

@ Anonymous 10:21 PM

Development and assistance to the villages is good to hear but there is a limit to how much assistance any government can afford as that money has to come out of the pockets of the taxpayers.

What is needed is jobs for the villagers so they can support themselves. Every man needs to do 8 hours honest work a day to survive. It's a formula that works and is proven throughout the world.

The solution is providing, finding or inventing a job that can be done.

As a tax payer I do not want my money being used to support someone that would rather live on handouts in their ideal village retreat rather than find a job. If they genuinley can't get work it's different.

Editor,
Greg Sheridan's intellectually pretentious and parochial article'Isolating Fiji.Sri Lanka, and Myanmar would serve no useful purpose'(The Australian 7/2) is simply a rationalization of Australia's dubious foreign policy stance with regard to these countries.
I thought Australians believed in "fair go"? But apparently that is for Australians only. The people of Fiji.Sri lanka and Myanmar don't matter.According to Sheridan the best they should expect is a "flawed democracy" (when that comes into being).Meantime he reckons it's okay for them to continue to languish under a human rights abusing authoritarian regime. I find Mr Sheridan's "logic" hard to follow. I am reminded here of the Confucian saying : To see wrong and not to act against it is moral cowardice. The Australian stance smacks of that. And if you take out out all the fancy verbal gymnastics from Mr sheridan's article you will find it basically applauds that stance. He says in essence that it's okay for the people of Fiji, Sri lanka and Myanmar to be screwed by their rogue rulers and there's not much Australia can do about it.I find his view repugnant.I am certain the people of Fiji, Sri Lanka and Myanmar and their pro-democracy campaigners will feel the same way.People EVERYWHERE have the RIGHT to live in freedom and human dignity. Mr Sheridan appears ignorant of this.
What a shame!

Its good to see some pro-government (military) supporters on this site. I for one am one of them.

reading previous comments i have to commend "anonymous" (the one that supports the current regime) in airing his opinions on the article and drawing much flak and criticism in the process.

as a youth (in my 20's) i have come to the conclusion that obviously there is two sides to every story/perceived situation - the good and the bad.

The good so far is that this "government" has achieved far far more than any previous ruling authority (elected or not) has ever accomplished. The bad, well some we have seen and witnessed and some we have not seen..yet. Lets hope when both sides of the story is revealed for all too see, that the bad does not/and will not outweigh all the good that has transpired so far.

The people i believe, although having witnessed some of the bad, have not caused a stir because they are content with the way things are at the moment; not because they are afraid but because they are witnessing a fact - that the current body has done more than has ever been done before.

Again, keeping in mind that "theres two sides to every story", for fiji and the future of the people i hope that good will prevail.

We must also remember that corruption will always exist - the players change but the game is always the same.

You said you are in your twenties. So obviously you were born after 1982.

You said, this government has done some good things.
Can you please list 10 good things
and list 10 bad things about this government.

I'd be interested if you can tell us which hospital you were born in?

Can you tell us whether that hospital is better now than when you were born in it more than 20 years ago.
If it is better, which government improved it? Qarase or Rabuka's or Bainimarama's.

I noticed that at CWM Hospital , the sick patients have to buy their own sheets . Too bad if you are suddenly in an accident then you end up on your bare mattress. I've seen a patient after surgery lying on a bare bed for 2 days. Actually I saw 2 patients in that condition.

Aren't you glad the doctors didn't throw you onto a bare mattress when you were born.
You would have died from all sorts of stuff.

Anyway I heard the nurses work 12 hour shifts and get paid for 8 hours...Hmmmmm. Very sad.
And the top clown pays himself $700,000 per annum....Hmmmm.

And you still think this government is not as corrupt as the other ones...Hmmmm.

What about the $4billion debt by Bainimarama compared to $2billion debt by Qarase's government...Hmmm. Which is better? ...Hmmmmm
Very difficult to answer that one isnt it?

There is a common denominator for politician, religious leader, GCC and trade unionist and they look after people welfare and interest. What we need are honest and clean leaders irrespective of which sector do they serve.
We should also remember that we cannot seperate all the others from politics because politics is part of human nature because we all live in small communities which politiocs is part and parcel of being a leader. A leader select his inner circle and isnt that politics. Look at what is happening in the current regime, what AG is doing in all Public Enterprise, what do you call that politics or nepotism or both.
When a leader leads with authotarian attitude he or she is playing dirty politics with a dictorial doctrine.
For people to say that we should seperate state from religion are mere ignorant of the fact that we are dealing with the same people and their aspiration.
Foe example , to chalenge crime both state and religion with the assistance of the secular organisation need to work together. Any one of them cannot work in isolation to govern the people.
To conclude let us forget what our past leaders have done, we should identify our new leaders now and allow them to lead us for the next 5 years and with the stroke of the pen we should them decide whether they continue or change them. Let God help us in our decision.

Thanks for your concern of my place of birth and mortality. Frankly I am not sure why you mentioned all the things you "noticed" and other presumptions and everything else you've "heard".

Here is my response to what I thought was worth responding to:
-CWM is still in a sorry state and neither government has done any better to improving it although i hope this one can
-regarding your assumption that i think this government is less corrupt read my initial comment again if you care to (i said no such thing). I said that corruption can never be truly eradicated i.e. same game different players.
-As for the debt, you can't build a beautiful sturdy house without spending money (expenditure!).

In saying that I reiterate that hopefully good prevails for Fiji in the future and that what is currently being hidden from the public, is not too bad that would tarnish all the good work this government has done.

And the list you requested - that is a bait someone with less restraint (and a foolish person at that) can take. That would just open up a whole new line of discussion which I would rather not indulge in.

Vinaka.

I guess "Debt for Dummies" wasn't a subject at Army School.

Maybe once all the bridges fall, we'll need that boat as transport around Viti Levu.
Its obvious these tinpot soldiers havent got a clue how to run a country.
Sa rui levu na vakilakila kei na qaciqacia.

This country is run by a bunch of morons that even the Asian Development Bank has downgraded its ratings since last year.

Bainimarama is a liar from the beginning and still full of bullshit.
Finally the shit is starting to float and the people are beginning to smell the stink.

I just wish the Fijian people had woken up to this fact in 2006.
This is why I'm so disappointed with the Methodist church, because of all people they should have figured this out in 2006.
How could they have been so blind?

Jesus said you can tell the tree by its fruit.
The fruit was shown to us in 2006 and reinforced again in 2009 and the lying continues to this day.

There are fijians still hoping for something good when the signs were already revealed in 2006 that it will never be.

We knew that there wasn't going to be any election in 2009.
We knew that Yash Ghai and the Constitution consultation is all a red herring.
And we know that there will be NO Election in 2014.

ALL YOU PEOPLE THINKING THAT THERE WILL BE FREE AND FAIR ELECTION IN 2014 ARE ALL BLIND and STUPID!

You are all staring at a Pawpaw Tree and wishing it would produce Coconuts.
Even a Class 1 student will tell you that that is STUPID.

I guess that is what happens when you don't read The Manual.

It's not us the C 4.5 "cocksuckers" who should be worried. we have NOT done anything UNLAWFUL - like taking over a democratic government. It's you fuckers who should be worried because you have illegally taken over the country and fucked it good! Your days are numbered. Remember that!

Defamation Cases VB and ASK said...

Yes indeed numbered and counting. Regime Hypocritical Lunatics. Under the guise of compliance are reaping any and all types of fees and penalties to run their sordid affairs before the state goes broke. Poor Fijians and businesses who are trying to survive the recklessness of decrees and policies decided by 2 men, VB and ASK. Jail time in the making and tons of defamation cases from businesses and individuals against these two and the Regime soon after democracy is returned.

It is an absolute imperative now, more so than ever before, for the Regime, Frank and Co. including Aiyaz, Shameem, Gates, Pride, Aziz and many others, that a return to Democracy, never ever happen.
If Fijians are ever successful at returning their beloved Country to Democracy and a Democratically Elected Government, the Regime know it's all over red rover.
hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Naboro we go!

Editor,
Greg Sheridan's intellectually pretentious article 'Isolating Fiji, Sri Lanka and Myanmar would serve no purpose' (The Australian 7/2) is simply a rationalization of Australia's dubious foreign policy.
I thought Australians believed in "fair go"? But apparently that is only for Australians. The people of Fiji, Sri Lanka and Myanmar don't matter. According to Mr Sheridan the best for them is a "flawed democracy" (when that happens) . Meantime he reckons it's okay for them to continue to languish under a human rights abusing authoritarian regime.
I find it hard to follow Mr Sheridan's logic. I am reminded here of a Confucian saying : To see wrong and not act against it is moral cowardice.
I think the Australian stance smacks of that.
And if you take out all the fancy verbal gymnastics from Mr Sheridan's article you will find it basically set out to support that stance.
I find it repugnant.
I am sure the people of Fiji, Sri Lanka and Myanmar and their pro-democracy campaigners will feel the same way.
People EVERYWHERE have the RIGHT to live in freedom and human dignity.
Mr Sheridan is apparently ignorant of this.
What a shame!
sincerely,

Well well well. Desperate indeed and very dangerous indeed. The Bainivuaka government is now trully showing its true colours. This latest amendment to the Elections Decree shows the will of a Dicttator. Why cant people see that Bainimarama might be joining NFP? Somehow they got their numbers in time, registered without any hiccups. Rings a bell? Of course. Khaiyum's Dad was an NFP MP> So, this might be the party Bainivuaka is joining.....and their mouthpiece? The dirty woman Mere Bavulu Vuniwaqa. They've always lived in Tacirua village up there. Mata ni Tawa Boka, sa ra mai via dua na ka tu qo. Mere, go and clean up your monkey faced husband so he looks more human instead of looking like a pompous fat arse that he is. And by the way my day, for learned legal bees like us, you come across as very lame. You must have fucked someone to get your post eh? Oh and also, you changed your name to Vuniwaqa after you became bullshit PS yeah? Donu! Remember when all is done, keimami na qai vakaqarai kemuni yani kei ira na luvemuni. When all this is over, there will some wives and children that will be raped and mutilated to get our vengence. Make sure its not your kids Mere! You have now been warned!
