|KOROVOU ESCAPEE: Iowane Benedito|
They're not in uniform but a number of the men seen beating and torturing an escaped prisoner and the man accused of harbouring him, were Corrections Officers.
They were part of the task force team who captured Iowane Benedito, who escaped from Korovou Prison and who is seen in the back of a truck being bashed with wooden poles and a truncheon in a video shot during his drawn out recapture.
That video has been posted on Utube and Fiji police say they are investigating.
Benedito was one of four prisoners who eluded police late last year for 10 days before he was captured at Muslim League Park in Nabua - by a task force team and Fiji Corrections Officers.
The man accused of helping him avoid the manhunt, and who Corrections officers is seen setting a dog on in the video, was just 20 at the time and was unemployed.
Benedito escaped from Korovou on Sunday November 18 and was the last out of the four to be returned to custody.
The Korovou break out followed that of the five prisoners from Naboro and took place during the day time.
The escape (as did Naboro) infuritated police and Corrections Officers, who mounted huge and vengeful missions to find and punish the escapees.
|NABORO ESCAPEE: Qaraniqio.|
Police Commissioner Ioane Naivalurua last year promised a report on the recapture of the Naboro prisoners, including Epeli Qaraniqio, after we revealed his leg had to be amputated after a beating at the hands of those who tracked him down.
Nothing has ever come of that promise of a report.
