Easter appeal to regime's soli maka's

Expecting the selfless acts of Pope Francis in Suva where there is ass rather feet kissing might be a bit much, but nothing wrong with setting the bar high.

In Rome: Papal behaviour
The former leader of the United Peoples Party, Mick Beddoes, is urging members of the regime to rethink their position as part of Easter, pointing to the Pope washing and kissing the feet of prisoners as an example of real leadership, humility and compassion.

He's expecting a bit much from this lot but the sentiment is timely with the current manouvering by the regime to lock into place its Constitution and opponents planning a series of public meetings next week on the regime draft.

In a statement Beddoes beseeches Christians in the Regime, Military, Police and civil service to think hard about what they are doing 'and to search deep into their hearts and try and feel the pain & suffering of our people because of their individual support for the ongoing acts of ‘oppression’, ‘treats’ and denial of  basic human rights and liberties of fellow citizens being perpetrated by their paymaster without the mandate of the people.'

In Suva: ass kissing president and yet another delegation
"What did the people do to deserve this kind of treatment? And it isn't even from a foreign invading force, but from the very institution whose duty it was to protect them.
"If the Regime believes what they are doing is for good of the people, then each officer and civil servant needs to ask themselves, why then has this good failed to unite the people behind it after 6 years of absolute control? The answer is simple; it’s in the interest of a few, and not the people?"
Beddoes cites Martin Niemoeller ex Who Then Will Speak Up?

With the Second World War behind him, the German Lutheran pastor, Martin Niemoeller, wrote his now famous confession called "I Didn't Speak Up”.

"In Germany, the Nazis first came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.  Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.  Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.  Then they came for the Catholics, but I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.  Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak for me."

Another leak, meanwhile, from those 'inside' - an analysis paper titled 'Can Bainimarama come back after the 2014 election and lead the Modern Fiji?' The title promises more than it delivers but reiterates earlier releases it'll be the majority population, the Fijians, that vote him in and that Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum is a yokel around his neck but one Bainimarama can't shake off.

A reminder of the two public meetings this week on the draft Constitution at FTA Hall in Suva on Wednesday April 3 and Tokatoka Resort in Nadi on Friday, April 6. Both are planned for 5pm.

Anonymous 12:29 AM asks for a definition of democracy. It's good to begin with such basics as many Fijians don't understand what democracy is, much less appreciate it.

As democracy has evolved from the Athenian model to the American and Westminster models, it has also changed from direct democracy to these newer forms of constitutional and representative democracy more conducive to the stable, consistent and fair administration of government.

Most countries now claim to be democratic, even many that are not. A simple working definition of democracy today is this: "majority rule, minority rights." Fiji fails this basic definition, as do many other countries who claim to be democratic.

Anonymous 12:29 alleges corruption and communalism under past governments and suggests these are a byproduct of democracy. They are not. Democratic nations come in many varieties and different phases of development but include many of the cleanest and most tolerant goverments in the world.

Past Fijian governments may have fallen short of the democratic ideal, but their failire was not due to a surplus of democracy. The present regime is the least democratic in Fiji's history. It also seems the most venal. This is not surprising, since it lacks the transparency and accountability that are the hallmarks of good democratic governance.

editor,
I can't believe Frank Bainimarama can still continue to TALK about "true democracy" after subjecting the country to over 6 years of undemocratic misrule. I refer here to the article 'True democracy :PM'in the regime mouthpiece newspaper the Fiji Sun (2/4). He wants everyone to believe that Fiji will be a true democracy because the constitution he is foisting on the people of Fiji (un democratically because he has no democratic mandate to meddle with the country's constitution)will " only allow those elected into power through general elections to enter parliament". He must think people are either naive or stupid to believe that will give them "true democracy".
Democratic governance entails a whole lot more then that but I am not going to waste my time going into that here. In any case most people have a good understanding of what a good working democracy entails. That is what the country needs - not some fanciful notion of "true democracy" put forward by a dictator!
sincerely,

@ Deepak Chauhan 12:50 AM,

All Kaidias don't realize that Bainirarama was instigator of the 2000 coup. Many of them were also involved in this coup too even though it was MPC who was ousted. Speight and those imprisoned with him had to be the scapegoats in all that 2000 madness.

Now in the 2006 MPC wanted to play God and sought vengeance and joined the mad regime that involved itself in the madness of that year. But because he was kicked out of this madness of a regime MPC has now joined the individuals who want a more fair and just democratic government.

Everyone who is participating in advocating this coup madness such as Bainimarama who thinks he can take revenge because of his fast exit down that tavioka patch at Namadai needs to know that vengeance belongs only to the Lord God.

Franks' soldiers - his henchmen - will not learn anything . They are what they are : blindly follow the dictator kind of soldiers. The Fijian soldiers serving in elite overseas forces engaged in fighting tyrants across the globe is a different kind of soldier. A true professional soldier. Franks' soldiers are nothing but thugs in uniform! (This of course does not apply to ALL the soldiers in the Fiji army.I am sure there are decent professional soldiers in the Fiji army. It's just that we haven't heard from them recently. And that's a tragedy for the Fiji army and the fijian people).

Pio Bosco Tikoisuva tells us he fully supports "the PM" Frank Bainimarama's decision not to allow same-sex marriage because "Fiji is a religious country" (Fiji Sun 2/4).What I am curious to know is the "composition of religious faiths" in Fiji's prison population? These are religious people but not necessarily good people;certainly not good citizens. Are they? Does Tikoisuva have any idea how many same-sex couples around the world are jailbirds and how many are law-abiding decent citizens who are in every way the same as other citizens bar their preference of a partner. A good many of these same-sex wallahs are even religious people themselves! Why should the secular state be discriminating against citizens because of their sex partners?
I fully support the RE-ELECTED United States President Barack Obama's endorsement of same-sex marriage as a citizens' right to choose how he or she wants to live.
The US President a former Law School Professor is far more intelligent then our Form 4 educated self-appointed "PM".
It therefore makes more sense to go with his thinking then with that of our UNELECTED "PM".

Anonymous said...

@Anon 1.16 PM
I agree. a further point to note is how many religious falas - the priest and pundits - doing time for sex offences? are they part of the "religious community" who do not support same-sex marriage because it goes against their religious beliefs. why should anyone pay any attention to such low-life hypocrites?

By washing and even kissing the feet of a prisoner, Pope Francis is modeling true Christian leadership, humility and compassion.

Semi Meo suggests that Mick Beddoes kiss the feet of Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, presumably after washing them. That would be a deeply personal decision on Mick's part, but I fully agree that it would truly be a noble gesture on Mick's part to wash and kiss the feet of a prisoner condemned to the gallows.

Anon 7:06 is right. Fiji isn't a democracy, and neither are many other countries who claim to be democratic.

Something else to bear in mind is that many of the most undemocratic countries actually claim to be "true" democracies because they supposedly guarantee economic rights. Most of these actually follow discredited socialist economic policies and use the claim of economic and social rights to trump and suppress the basic human and civil rights of their citizens.

We're seeing that trend in the New Fiji, where the regime treats a bus ticket like it's an entitlement but elections like they're not.

it will now begin to dawn on Commodore Bainimarama that he really cannot have his way, even with all the Fiji army guns behind him. Hence the numerous policy changes and constitutional manipulation to justify his existence. His overpaid yet useless propaganda pr machines, qorv and fs have not caused a dent in the psyche of the the citizens of this country.
At least we can be certain that two third of the Fiji army are loyal, law abiding professional soldiers who will not raise their guns against an unharmed group of civilians. The remainder 50% of the one third will sit on the fence. Of the other 50%, half will march but guilty conscience will force them to disobey orders in the last minute. This leaves the inner circle of soldiers who will utterly regret the day they were born, just cowards.
In our march and preparedness to resist and overthrow this regime,we must at all cost dislodge and cripple all public apparatus that give support to commodore Bainimarama, Aiyaz and his group. We can do this by prolonging tax payments, take more time to complete daily tasks, lodge complaints against corrupt senior civil servants, tell your friends the lies and cover up perpetuated by this regime.
We must be firm and fearless in the our commitment to 'destroy' the bainimarama regime, at the same time respect them as fellow citizens of this country. We must not be boisterous nor vulgar in our cause to see this to the end.
We must not flinch nor fear when confronted by soldiers or police, but with humility advise them that they will loose out.
Be ready when you are called, watch out for the signs.

totally agree about the health system, just awful.
not just Voreqe/Kyuim and Nailtakikau. some of this pastors and all chiefs and ratu should make weekly visit to the hospital. See how everyday citizens have to coup with.people line up all day , hospital equipment and facility are just horrible. instead of buying planes upgrade the health system. i guess this is too much to ask for a moron of a dictator.

Some of this pastors are having too good of a life to even bother have an opinion on whats happening in our country. None of them believe in their gods so much to make a stand against Frank the dictator.
all they say and preach is god will take care of it....what a cope out!!!

when David went out to fight Goliath , he didn't ask God to go fight on his behalf, he had the courage knowing that his god given talents will see him through. it wasn't the stone from the sling that killed Goliath , it was the idea that he could defeat this giant of a man with a stone slung from a sling. this was his choice of weapon underrated but very effective.

Pastor should stand up and call for peaceful demonstrations as weapons against this dictator, Use the most powerful word you can use against this dictator, in "JESUS CHRIST" we assemble and we protest the lost of our god given rights. The right to feel and exist as free man!!

most of our pastors are getting fatter and fatter because they take all and everything they can take from worshipers. Stop preaching," God will look after us" or "God will take of the situation". God gave us the ultimate weapon, brain power to fight our own battle whilst here on earth. stop enslaving worshipers!!

Sorry, Anonymous, if 'Anonymous' is your original name. Yeah, being named 'Anonymous' is pretty confusing but original!

I found this names below in the blog. This names needs to be get ridden off from fj if fj wants to be a good nation again. Chiefs needs to stand up signed a petition and send it to Eng, Aus and NZ to send a sailing ship to get rid of this names. Remember that Fiji was given back to the chiefs of Fiji by the British monach where Fiji belongs during Fiji's independence and should still remain under the chiefs leadership and control. I like the Ghai report that respects the Fijian custom by reconizing the chiefs of Fiji and if the chiefs of Fiji don't want the Kaiyum constitution, it needs to be dump off in the trash. Chiefs represent the people of Fiji and that's why I'm mentioning the chiefs in this comment. Fiji is really being controlled by the names listed below and we can see that their faith that is shaking the world today.
Fiji needs to take care and love the Girmits as they are the first Indians that came and suffer in the development of Fiji in the olden days.
There is nothing we the people of Fiji can do now except to fight back but it's not good because people will suffer. Go back to the history and chiefs should act. Thank you the Marama bale Roko Tui Dreketi for standing up for the people of Fiji.

Thank you.
