Mara and Driti's former mate steps up for Bainimarama

Aziz: on hand for coup leader who now wants to be legit
It looks like Mohammed Aziz is having to earn his keep these days.

He's been trotted out to pick up where the sickly Mosese Tikoitoga left off to keep the regime spin going.

Aziz has had it easy before now, being spared the more public moments of having to voice the ambitions of Frank Bainimarama, as Tikoitoga has had to.

But with Tikoitoga sidelined, Aziz, who was exposed on these pages as having supported the failed Roko Ului and Pita Driti plan to get rid of Bainimarama, is having to pay back the hand that feeds him.

Aziz has declared the RFMF's support for Bainimarama to  "to keep his leadership,” endorsing the staged efforts to mount a political party and 'campaign' for the 2014 elections.

The chief of staff, who has also been exposed on these pages for having has hand in the till, insists Bainimarama   has started a new political path and since 2006 has had to "attend to some sad issues from the past," including the broken promises of politicians.

Aziz has also had to allay fears over the regime plan to acquire land by fair or foul means telling the Fiji Sun: "Land is usually a controversial issue and past governments used it as a political tool to gain votes from the landowners."

He says Bainimarama has introduced reforms "on new favourable terms and conditions".

According to Aziz, the new political direction can only be  carried forward 'Bainimarama and his Government.'

The United Front for Fiji Democracy says Aziz is engaging in wishful thinking and it will be the people who decides not the military.

The UFDF says Aziz's remarks reveals the regime's increasing fear of the likely outcome of the 2014 elections, once the people have the opportunity to cast their votes.

The group also points out that Aziz’s public endorsement for Bainimarama contradicts earlier statements by Tikoitoga the military will not support any political parties or person standing for the election and that any RFMF member would have to leave the military if they had political ambitions.

The UFDF asks: "So is the Commander going to resign now that he has declared his candidacy? Is Brig Aziz going to resign his commission for breaching an order by the Land Force Commander Tikoitoga in declaring the military’s support for a candidate who has announced his intention to contest the 2014 and is a military officer?

"Or is this just more about the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing or another example of the regimes basic inability to operate within their own stated rules?"

Anyone who has read his thesis (see link and others below) will know that like most in the army, Aziz doesn't think for himself and has aligned his fortunes to that of his leader.

So while it's tactical to keep the pressure on the RFMF, the truth is the army was lost to the Fiji people a long time ago.

Aziz calls for 'Fiji spirit' but doctoral thesis reveals his own failure to address the truth http://www.coupfourandahalf.com/2012/04/aziz-calls-for-fiji-spirit-but-thesis.html

This is part of an orchestrated campaign to show spontaneous support for Bainimarama through all sections of Fiji society to justify his continued rule: why have elections when the leader is this popular. But what if the people decide someone else should be prime minister? Will the RFMF disregard the verdict of the ballot box and refuse to yield power? Is their loyalty to the state of Fiji or to Bainimarama's personal political fortune? Aziz should be disciplined or sacked for this outrageous intervention

Aziz is alone at the camp,,,get ready to watch the fun.

if you stand close to Prick Aziz you will find a bad odour emanating from him because the military man is an unclean - napak - man. all the wheeling and dealing in the military has contaminated him. the man's toxic.

Aziz you sound worse than Tikoitoga!!! You sound a real knuckle head, having problems with projecting sense, coherence and intelligence.

Not surprising that you are bending over backwards to serve your boss but it makes what you say so silly...thought you are a lawyer.

You are now a big gun in the army ....will be a big asset to your muslim alkaida brother EyeArse which will be a lethal combination to the indegenous people.

What you have said just convince us not to vote for Bainimarama.

No sympathy for John Samy. He was a part of the do-gooder brigade to 'clean up' Fiji. The group included 'Sarka Kuto' Nandan, 'Brown-noser' Robin Nair,' John Prasad, Surendra Sharma, Francis Narayan, the FSC Boys and other regime sympathisers (Kamles Arya, Deven Pathik, Ganesh Chand, Rajesh Chandra). Many of them were Narsey's old friends. No redemption for thieves and scoundrels who stole Fiji's future under the guise of altruism.

people see the excellent interview done by Al Jazeera's Andrew Thomas with Fiji military ruler Bainimarama in Pacific Scoop 7 April, 2013.

Tukai Lagonilakeba articulating for "everyone else in Fiji" in his letter 'Facing truth'(Fiji Sun 8/4)tells us "the 1997 Constitution is now obsolete" and "our Prime Minister must be doing something right". He of course conveniently ignores the many wrongs "our Prime Minister" has done before carrying out his coup and after installing himself as "our Prime Minister".
Tukai also projects himself as a man of "clear conscience" who wants "everyone else in fiji" who as "moved on" since the trashing of the 1997 Constitution to vote for Bainimarama. It is self-evident from his letter that he is a Bainimarama man. But who is this man? Can someone tell us? His writing has the same crappy style as Graham Davis's.

Would someone have the above Aljazeera Interview posted on You Tube Please.

The biggest corrupt organization in Fiji is LTA. This goes from local offices all the way up to the head quarters. No one is spared. From a office clerk to the CEO.

I know that taxi operators, bus operators, Minivan operators, and private vehicles owners can get their fitness certificate delivered at homes and offices without an inspection. It only costs $20.00

When you get stopped for any reason, all one has to to is to slide few dollars as "grog money" and you can go on on your own merry way.

I am appalled to see how much of corruption goes on with LTA employees. Recently a Sunbeam Transport was issued 19 trips without any application or going through due process. Same applies for E-ticketing. Some one has made a lot of money with E ticketing. Vodafone will profit more than Six Million Dollars a year. Bus operators will stand to have a new silent partner without any investment. Voda will make pure profit without any risk of loss.

The second biggest corrupt department is Police. I shall elaborate on this department in few days

editor,
A coup trial has begun in Turkey (Al jazeera news 8/4, 3.30PM).Over 200 alleged plotters including journalists, academics, businessmen, and military generals have been indicted with a plot to topple the ruling party with assasinations and extra judicial activities. It is claimed the trial will show "the army is not above the law". However one local media editor said he is now skeptical because according to him "the worst enemy of democracy is a non working judiciary".
I am not sure what he means but if he means a compromised judiciary I agree completely.
Let us hope for the sake of Turkish democracy that the coup plotters get a fair trial and it is demonstrated that the army is not above the law.
Not in Turkey. Not in Fiji. The army can never be above the law in any democracy.
And when army people muck around with the law they must face justice like any other citizen.
Let us be clear about that so that we can end our coup culture.

WAs sick listening to the TV news this afternoon about AG harping that the Qarase Govern bridged the rule of changing the Momi land to free hold.. quote " It is written in the constititution and they Qarase cannot break any rule so we are here to change all that" Please the main rule that you Aiyaz broke was that to abrogate the constititution so what the hell are you talking about breaking small non issue rules... Its like listening to kindi children trying to justify 1+1=3..

That's why I support Attar (no, not even Micky mouse) and those who always stood firm.

Here is comments on a proposal for Australian government to handle boat people by captain Devine. He wishes to use cruise ships with Fijian staff. Why? Cause Fijian government doesn't allow union which means low wages.

But Captain Devine might have trouble with one aspect of the plan: he is resolute that, apart from a handful of Australian workers hired to process asylum seekers' claims, he would hire mostly Fijian workers. Not only does he praise their warm and gentle nature, he says their government's rules about working conditions are much more attractive than those imposed by Australia and our unions.

''We will never have unions, particularly Australian unions, on those vessels because your price would triple,'' he said. ''And hence the reason why I would be utilising Pacific island staff on crews … that's what keeps the cost down.''

Aziz is trying to tell the public that frank will get support from fmf to be pm after 2014 election.

Khaiyum is saying that BKC says election will happen in 2014.

No election in 2014 if we reject BKC.

editor,
With his legal training the illegal Attorney-General should know that no military or military commander has the lawful right to override the country's constitution.
Respect for Constitutional Law must come first at all times because it is the ultimate legal framework for the conduct of the State and the citizen.
The illegal Attorney-General and his co-illegal ministers in the Military Government did show not any respect for the Constitutional law of the country when they trashed the 1997 Constitution, did they?
Why then is he so preoccupied with the "Land law" ?(Fiji Times 9/4).
Is is because it serves the military regime's propaganda agenda?
If the Momi land transaction was an unlawful and fraudulent conversion why hasn't the parties been charged accordingly and the matter tested in a court of law?
Are we to accept the illegal Attorney-General's pronouncements on the issue as final?
If his rationalization of the regime's self-serving draft constitution is anything to go by I wouldn't rely on the illegal Attorney-general's interpretation of the law to guide me.
sincerely,

With this latest statement from Aziz, can there be anyone who still doubts that the elections this regime plans to hold will be phony, if they're held at all?

Even Semi Meo has stopped talking up the elections as a panacea for ending the treason now gripping Fiji.

Anonymous said...

Has participation in ANYTHING the regime has proposed been useful? The People's Charter, the Leaders of Political Parties Process, the Ghai "Constitutional Dialogue", the Constituent Assembly -- all have just been bogus exercises, and all part of Bainimarama's cynical attempt to give legitimacy to his illegal regime. So far, the best approach seems to be that shown toward the CA, which was simply to refuse to join in the farce.

No one buying the QEB propaganda!

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre seeks clarification from Brigadier-General Mohammed Aziz, Chief of Staff of the RFMF, on his reported statement that “the RFMF would work with the Prime Minister to see that he retains leadership after the 2014 elections”.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun (Fiji Sun 6/4/2013), Aziz also reportedly stated that “the new political direction the nation is experiencing can only be carried forward by the Prime Minister and his Government.”

“Brigadier-General Aziz and the RFMF need to clarify to the people of Fiji exactly what he means by his statement that the RFMF would work “to see” that the Prime Minister retains leadership after the 2014 elections” said Shamima Ali, Coordinator of the FWCC. “Does he mean that the RFMF will not accept election results if Commodore Bainimarama’s party is not elected into government? If this is the case, then why are is the regime going through the expense and time to draft a constitution and hold elections?”
