Unsuspecting cane farmers bow and scrape to Fiji's sugar thief

First he raided the pensioner's funds - now he's ripping off sugar cane famers.

Meet Frank Bainimarama - Fiji's sugar bandit.

Bainimarama steals the hard work of others
Here he is smugly handing out $100 cheques to sugar cane farmers at Ba last week, but he had nothing whatsoever to do with them getting the first ever pension payout in Fiji's history.

That kudos goes to the Rarawai Penang Cane Producers Association Fair Trade initiative, which allows farmers to accrue premium funds, that are then paid by Tate and Lyle Sugars directly to the Local Cane Producers Associations at a rate of US$60 or F$106 per tonne of sugar produced, in addition to the standard amount paid to Fiji Sugar Corporation.

Habib (centre) replaced at head table
Yet, there was Bainimarama acting the big benefactor, pocketing votes for the 2014 elections as he went.

Questions come to mind: who in the sugar industry or in the government machinery decided to make him the chief guest and give him free publicity?

And why was the brain-child of the Fair-trade organisation in Fiji, Mohammed Habib, missing from the head-table at the Ba function? Was his place given to Mary Bainimarama - it sure looks it.

And who are the people behind the scene pulling strings to make sure the aging dictator gets to attend key functions like this to prepare him for the 2014 sham of an election?

Media: sucked in by 'stunning' propaganda
It's not the Fiji Sugar Cane Growers Association, which outed the regime for misleading people over the sugar stats in a press release a few days ago

Its general secretary, Bala Dass, has noted it all in the release "Record cane payment - Misleading."

Sadly, the power hungry Bainimarama is playing the most vulnerable in our midst for fools.

This week he gets to dupe his peers in Russia and China where he is spreading more propaganda but one can't feel sorry for them.

Those we should be concerned for are the likes of these poor cane farmers, who are being taken in by the most unscrupulous of dictators - the last sugar daddy anybody would want or trust.

  8. Bala dass is a nobody in the cane belt having lost badly in all the elections he stood.

He is bitter that the farmers are getting $80 and pension something he nor his rival MPC ever achieved.

Those of you who are saying that FB is robbing FNPF to pay FSC and the farmer are plain wrong and can't accept the fact that fb has achieved what none could do before him.

Check fnpf annual account to prove me wrong.

  14. Well, all patrons visiting this blog site are fed up with the vote buying that is happening. But that is the beauty of politics .....because what was supposed to have been achieved by elected representatives in past elections from the Chaudhry era to the Qarase era who were more intellectual, it seems they all were stupids when they were elected into office because they cared more about their own pockets and not the livelihoods of their electorates.
For the benefit of my beloved country, I think this is a step in the right direction at least to reward the hard working farmers about their dedication and commitment. Chaudhry...you have lost the plot...for Qarase...its now history....If the current government can solve the land tenure issue, Fiji will be an economy to reckon with in years ahead.

  22. Frank Bainimarama has a hidden agenda and i suspect that it's so well hidden, that he doesn't even know what it is himself. One day he's against the chiefs and Fijian Traditions, the next he seems to be embracing and practising them. One day he's pooling Traditional land, the next stating that he and his Regime are protecting it for Indigenous Fijians.
The reality is, Frank Bainimarama is an insane murderous criminal, a thief in the night. He believes that it is only himself who can save Fiji. Save it from what exactly, no one quite seems to know. The accusations against Mr. Qarase and his government have never been proven and amount to zero. At the same time, he is selling the Qoli Qoli, selling the Mining Resources, selling or exchanging Freehold title land to Chinese of questionable background and has handed over the Mahogany Forests. He puts out his hand and smiles to unsuspecting, gullible and ill informed Village Chiefs buttering them up to gain support, while at the same time, he out manoeuvres them, handing out promises no sane man would even contemplate. One would have to ask, who is ?frank bainimarama's strategist and what is their hidden agenda.
Fiji is all but a failed State, yet many on this blog and others, continue to live in denial, oblivious to the bleeding obvious.
It's simply a matter of time before everything blows up in everyone's face, and sadly, it's only at that point in time that everyone will understand the true extent of the harm which this man and his band master, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum have done.
But you won't hear any of frank's supporters coming forward admitting that they were mistaken that they have had their heads up their behinds all this time.
It seems the wheels of Justice do move ever so slowly. Fiji, almost $6,000,000,000 in debt now and rising, and given that Fiji's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is only around $1,000,000,000 to $1,400,000,000, it is only a matter of 12 months before the whole Economy comes crashing down. It is imperative now that Frank and aiyaz rest control of the purse strings and Fiji's Financial Institutions, because they need the money to pay off the Soldiers so they in turn, can protect Frank and Aiyaz arses from impending jail.

  23. Mark,

You and rajen naidu are people who are challenged mentally. Instead of talking about what is happening in your backyard, you are talking about things in which u have no expertise.

A classic example of your stupidity is the $10b impact of coup and borrowing $500 of which you give $200 to the farmers. You said that your loan will be $700. I find that baffling as that's class 2 stuff.

  34. editor,
We read in the regime mouthpiece newspaper the Fiji Sun (25/5) that the self-appointed PM Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama will shorten his trip to China later this month (how many trips has he made to China? must be a record of some sort!) because he wants to be back in the country for the International Sugar Organisation meeting's preparatory committee's final briefing.
The chairman of the committee and Permanent Secretary for Sugar Lt.Col Manasa Vaniqi told the Fiji Sun that "everything would be ready in the last briefing". He said "one of the changes to be made was that military personnel in Nadi would be meeting and greeting the participants when they arrived". They would also be "using RFMF drivers who are not paid overtime like other government drivers". And finally, the Lieutenant Permanent Secretary has confirmed that " the traditional welcome ceremony would be done by the military".
Anyone still with any doubts about Fiji being under military rule?

  37. This blog has certainly deteriorated in quality over time. It seems as if we are chatting in a high school chat room of some sort with abusive language references to genitals etc. I thought this was about subjective and objective discussions about democracy and the highlighting of the misdeeds of the regime in Fiji. Knowing that people of this intellectual values exist make me very worried about Fiji's future. Frankly i don't see the difference between a cheating lying and abusive dictator and most of you on this blog who purport violence racism nationalism etc and can express your views only with abuse and foul language. Too Anon 9.25 i find your statements classifying Indians as refugees quite insulting. Note this fella. Most of the Indians are leaving Fiji my guess is in about 10 more years the numbers will be so low we wont be a racial force at all. The Indians just want to use the taukei land and pay rent for it. All they wanted was secure tenure over a long term so that economic planning can be done properly. Your lands were never at risk. Your kaivata a fellow i-taukei FB is bringing the Chinese to Fiji in big numbers. China is a nuclear power and has one of the largest armed forces in the world. They will first offer to buy your lands and knowing your greedy chiefs most will sell and then spend the money on Land Cruisers and prostitutes like they have been doing for years. Those they cannot buy they will take by force. Mark my words fella. Enjoy your 90% land while you still can or i forgot let the grass grow on your land while you still can for the Chinese are coming......

your racism has blinded you. The greatest danger posed to your land is from your own kind; elites like Laisenia Qarase and Qoriniasi Bale, who did what we all thought was impossible: change native land title and actually sell it to a tourism operator!

Bloody hell, indians have reputation for being cunning, but some Fijians can beat them hands down: pretend to go to church, act innocent and holy-holy, pray loud and hard, pretend not to love money, but under the facade as greedy and cunning as any top conman - talk about wolves in sheep skin!

The native landowner were victim of daylight robbery by their own kind claiming to act in their interest. They were persuaded to exchange their prime land for a piece fo shit land, not by Indian refugees, but by itaukei and kaivalagi.

    open your fucking eyes man.

  40. For those commenting about land tenure. Please wake up, we need to develop the land [not steal it from its traditional owners ] in order to prosper. 3rd world countries are enjoying the benefits today because they developed their land. THe ownership issue will always rest with the iTaukei - there's no two ways about that. But we need to develop the land so that economically we can grow, which in turn will mean our per capita will increase, more buying power on our dollar. So wake up....our land needs to be developed ...whether its through the current regime or another govt...that's what we need to do after the elections.

The i-taukei's own all the land in Fiji but the i-taukei meaning one i- taukei for someone as stupid as you own nothing nada 0. And that is why most of you remain poor. Your land is useless without a title which is what you need to raise capital. Good Luck with you land by the way.

Sugar Cane Farmers By MAIKA BOLATIKI

An employee of the Ministry of Sugar has been caught spreading false information to discredit the good work made by the Government in the sugar industry.

This was confirmed to Fiji Sun yesterday by the Permanent Secretary for Sugar, Lieutenant-Colonel Manasa Vaniqi.

    Lieutenant-Colonel Vaniqi said:

“The sad thing is the worker was telling people that all the good work done in the Ministry of Sugar was that of the Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry.

“This is serious, especially when the employee knows of all the positive developments the Government has done for the Fiji Sugar Corporation.”

Lieutenant-Colonel Vaniqi confirmed the Ministry does not like to be engaged in politics, as past politicians had politicised the sugar industry simply for their personal benefit.

He is looking into the matter, but he could not say what action the Ministry would take
