Last roll of the dice for Fiji's casino developers?

So much for ultimatums.

Fiji's illegal attorney general was quoted on March 9 as saying there would be consequences if One Hundred Sands Limited had not started building by May.

“There has been an extension of time given to the casino license holders and they need to commence construction by a particular date in May.

“If they do not, there are obviously consequences in terms of license itself. We anticipate them to commence construction on the casino proper and the convention centre and hotel by May.” (ex Fiji Sun http://www.fijisun.com.fj/2013/03/09/casino-builders-cautioned/).

Yet not only has the company failed to even start toiling the land, it wants to change the site of where the casino will be built on Denarau Island - and Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum has agreed to it.

No detail of the exact location, just a picture of empty land in FBC and the following comment from Khaiyum:

“They have requested for an extension to the deadline and they have been given another week..... They have also requested to change the site .... so we have given them that approval also but this is the last extension.”

The regime has gone to lengths to get the estimated 300 million dollar casino off the ground, gazetting a decree last year in October, even though One Hundred Sands hadn't even started building. (http://www.coupfourandahalf.com/2012/11/casino-decree-but-no-sign-of-casino.html)

The decree gave developers a 15 year licence, and plum provisions including no duty on any capital goods (gaming machines etc) that would be brought in from overseas, and no annual license fee.

Despite that, Claunch has been unable to make the deal happen with reports insisting he doesn't have the money and never did.

According to the original plans, One Hundred Sands Limited was supposed to have already started on the casino.

Larry Claunch said the five star casino would open in October 2013 and it would have 500 slot machines, rooms 50 per cent bigger than any other resort in Denarau, plus a 1600 seat convention centre.

Few signs of Claunch in Fiji these days (Khaiyum admitted in the Sun story in March that they had been trying for months to get hold of Claunch without luck) but another key figure in the company has come to light.

According to sources the man pictured above is Janen Singh aka Yajbal Singh, a realtor, who was one of the original directors of One Hundred Sands Limited, when it was known as Toothpower, and who some say was the brainchild behind the casino.

  14. PDP promises new faces

    07:33 Today

    Taken from/By:
    Report by: Roland Koroi

The People’s Democratic Party spokesperson Nirmal Singh says he believes it’s time the younger generation takes over leadership of Fiji.

“Basically those leaders that were there in eighty seven, we still see the same leaders today. And what difference have they brought to the country? All we have seen is political chaos, confusion, and the Peoples Democratic Party has come out to sort of restore confidence in the younger generation.”

Singh says the party is expected to be launched in October, where party officials will also be named.

“When you’ll see our line-up, you’ll see a complete new set of leaders representing diverse, cultural, social and economic life of this country so you’ll see a younger generation, probably a new slate of candidates representing the younger generation.”
Singh has also assured that the PDP’s objectives aren’t entirely political in nature.

“We are not here to take leadership role, we are not here just to go into parliament, we’re not here promoting ourselves, we are working as facilitators so that the younger generation take the country in their hands.”

The People’s Democratic Party says it will not criticise past or the present government or even dwell on incidents of the past.

It says positive steps have been taken by the government for elections in 2014, and for now, getting beyond that remains their primary focus.

  18. Young people could have been endorsed by the respective Political Parties, prior to the coup of 2006!

If it's youth which defines a sound Politician, then perhaps it is new born children who should sit for election!

Frank's Regime, is no Government and has "no" Mandate from the People to make any requests, let alone that fresh faces be added to the Political Arena.

The Constitution and the Laws enacted by Fiji's Parliament under that same Constitution are what need to be adhered to if there is to be stability in Fiji.
The Separation of Powers under the Westminster System of Government, ensure that The Police enforce the Laws and the Judiciary determines if they have been broken and applies appropriate penalties etc.

I suspect that apart of fiji's problems stem from two things:-
    1/
Confusion between a modern Democracy and Traditional values.
    2/
The perception that the military is there solely to protect the Government and Citizens.

Both concepts are outdated and incorrect.

Agree partly with your sentiments but the young ones have had less years to become corrupted and act and live as if it is the norm.

Balance is what's required with a total elimination of the old farts who so readily show their lack of education and experience in anything and the ones with corruption as their middle name.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Corruption belongs to no one else, but to this present useless and most unethical government Fiji has ever come across! People of Fiji, think of our Country! Think of our future generation!

VOTE BAINIMARAMA AND KHAIYUM OUT; IF THEY EVER SHOW THEIR CUNNING FACES AT THE POLLS!

Man rang UK police about 'ugly hooker'
    AAP June 14, 2013, 12:26 pm

A man has been warned by police after he dialled 999 to complain about a prostitute's looks after meeting her outside a hotel.

Police in West Midlands said they were contacted by the caller who said he "wished to report her for breaching the Sale of Goods Act".

An officer at the call centre in Birmingham responded by telling the man the woman had not committed any offence - and that soliciting for sex was illegal.
The officer then sent the man a letter warning him about wasting police time.

    Taliban behead two young boys
By Akbar Shinwari, NBC News producer
Two Afghan boys trading yogurt for bread with local police were beheaded by Taliban fighters, an official said.
The boys, aged 10 and 16, had traveled to Afghan army and police checkpoints near their home in the southern province of Kandahar, scrounging for leftover food to bring to their families.
According to Javid Faisal, the spokesperson for Kandahar governor, the boys were swapping a milky drink called lassi for dry bread to feed their flock of sheep and goats.
Taliban allegedly warned them to not to trade with or help the police.
"The boys were on their way back ... when they were stopped by Taliban insurgents who beheaded them," the chief of Zhari district, Jamal Agha, told Reuters. "Both of them were innocent children and had nothing to do with government or foreigners."

The militants have beheaded dozens of people in the last two years, accusing them of aiding the government and its foreign backers led by the United States.
Faisal said the incident occurred on Sunday. Several hours later the bodies and severed heads of the boys were left in their village, he said.
In July last year, a 16-year-old boy accused by the Taliban of spying for the government was beheaded and skinned. The next month, a girl aged six and a boy of 12 were kidnapped and beheaded in separate incidents in Kandahar and the east of the country.

    Reuters contributed to this report.

  34. Ha, every day brings more evidence that Dakuwaqa is making the regime nervous. What, oh what, is he up to? How many are joining him? Is he taking off the gloves? He seems to be the regime's top security concern, but what the regime should really be worrying about are those security officers and men who are secretly rallying to his movement.

  35. Given the state of the nation and that fact that most people in Fiji earn less then $5/day, a casino will only increase poverty as people will flock to the cesspool to spend/lose their hard-earned earnings while the children ultimately suffer. Wouldn't it have been more appropriate to have a one of a kind water park with some very cool attractions that the world has not seen since Fiji has the right environment for it?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Can someone tell us where do the developers get their money from? The former chairman of AFL is involved in this developement, what is his role and whether is he the local content of the business? Is this another fraud case that Aiarse is arranging with FNPF chairman to be funded by FNPF. The company who wants to set this up do not have credibility to get funding from any investor and why is Aiarse rattling about the penalty rather than the advantages of having the casino in Fiji. Now with the casino out od the Denarau compound which is more secure in all aspect of the term develop they chose a cheap development site to no cost to the i Taukei land owners ( land security is in question). Let us see if Aiarese and Frank have anything better to say about the casino now we know that is going to be built.

    WORRY

Does Labour leader Mahendra Chaudhry agree with his Sydney-based son and onetime political heir apparent’s embarrassing attacks on one faith?
We were under the impression that Labour was promoting multiculturalism.
Is the suspended Suva lawyer still in “The Master’s” party?

  39. Janen was a realtor too? Rolle? Thats where he met Larry - so dont be fooled that this indo-fijian bloke did not know what he was doing. He only got booted out when he started asking for his share in the back money!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Janen Singh aka Yajbal Singh of One Hundred Sands Limited – the brains behind it and was one of the Directors with Larry Claunch.

Lives in Nasese – on top of his so-called floating restaurant that he calls Fringing Reef (FR – Fxxx Retreat we say). He used to fancy around in MV number plates SHARK, STI, DSTROY and FR. Now all that remains of this useless chap is huge debts with FDB and Merchant Finance Ltd, his filthy looking restaurant/home/hideout that’s more of his brothel than anything else, a zero dollar bank balance, properties auctioned off and the remaining ones are going for mortgagee sales. So he is depending on his “men and women” partners to support him through his tough times (I scratched your back when I had American dollars and now you scratch mine?) All this happened because his business partner dumped him like a tonne of bricks when he realized that this indo-fijian bloke was too big for his own boots! This explains why we cannot see any sign of Larry Claunch in Fiji anymore – once bitten twice shy and he is an American after all. He will not be wasting money on such a looser?

This Singh dude is also a sex freak! He will attack anything that moves and his long list of “preys” include prominent men and women – architects, realtors, charted accountants, insurance agents, lab technicians, bank officers, personal assistants, lawyers, domestic workers, his own employees – you name it. It gets one to sit and think of how many kids he would have fathered and how many has he even bothered to maintain throughout – some may not even know he is their father.

Coming from a squatter settlement, this man has seen the ranks from poverty to living like a millionaire. Flying in private jets and in business class, staying in 5 stars and hosting private parties, fooling the tax department, black money, prostitutes, women, men and the works. We wonder why we are worried about recovering from the poor and the under-privileged when we have such “sharks” around?

What is FRCA, FICAC and the Police doing? Why cant they investigate such crooks who have fooled people and taken their hard earned cash in the name of “investment” and who have come up with such scheme plans to even fool the government and obtain casino licenses, who avoid tax and lodging returns, who break up families for their own lust and pleasure, who have never earned a single penny through sweat, hard work and determination, but steal other’s ideas and sell it off as theirs and make millions and ride on other people’s success? What are we doing about such men who are a burden to this country? They need to be stripped naked and beaten with a whip till they bleed to death!

If Larry Claunch cannot be found, we still have Janen Singh? He will give us the answers we need! Where is all the black money they made with Nukudrau Island projects? The Savusavu deals and the various villagers that they fooled? Come on Singh we need answers!
