New names touted for Fiji election

Names are starting to emerge from the rival camp for the elections.

Self-appointed prime minister Frank Bainimarama has announced Minister of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, Dr Jiko Luveni, will run in his party - yes, the same party that has yet to muster 5000 supporters and be officially established.

Another one to poke his head out from the woodwork is the illegal health minister, Dr Neil Sharma, who says it’s a 'distinct possibility' he will stand.

Police moles say the former police chief, Esala Teleni, is also thinking of fielding his own party, using his brother's new 50-thousand strong Methodist Church as his support base.

They say Teleni has been wanting to return from China for some time but is in purgatory thanks to being unpopular with the illegal attorney general, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, who keeps thwarting his return.

The United Front for a Democratic Fiji, meanwhile, says it plans to release a regular list of facts for voters to ‘check’ and see for themselves just how uneven the playing field.

It says the list will expand as the election progresses and people are urged to establish for themselves the TRUTH and decide if the election is in fact being run fairly.

It's message: "..... Satisfy yourself that it is true and put these questions to candidates and supporters of the regime when they visit."

  1. Can someone please provide details of the extra heavy landing and damage sustained to a new A 330 of Fiji Airways in Sydney last Wednesday.
How in Gods name it was allowed to take off again and return to Fiji then be grounded by Airbus the manufacturer. Surely this put all the passengers and crew of the return flight in a very clear risk.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I have a friend who is in Flight Operations at Fiji Airways.
The damage is indeed very series and the repair bill is expected to be around $1.5 million !
The Pilot in Command of the Flight was Captain Malakai Gucake and he did not report any defect to the landing despot injury to a Flight Attendant.
The landing was 3 times heavier that that normally measured to trigger a heavy landing.
This is gross incompetence by the Captain as it seems he just continued as if nothing had happened!
No way I will be travelling Fiji Airways again with such an attitude !

    ReplyDelete
  3. A heavy landing is triggered around 5 feet per second descent rate.
I hear that in the case of the incident in Sydney the vertical descent was in the range of 17 feet per minute which inevitably will cause sever damage.
Indeed why was the aircraft allowed to continue its turnaround flight back to Fiji exposing all on board to such a severe danger.
The Captain did not report the event in Sydney.
Now Airbus is extremely concerned about what happened and the subsequent events.
What is CASA or CAAFI doing?

  4. Last comment should have read the heavy landing to FJ 911 was around 17 feet per second.

  5. Gucake n politics does that make sense cause everything and anything has to be done to stop banimarama to form government. Same scenario as FBI and CIA report regarding the missing aircraft (Black Box) still to be located where the pilots were deemed to be responsible to kill the infidels. Great job Gucake and your colleagues from Malaysia. U GUYS ROCK and by the way you know who promoted you to Captain yeah n for what but than again that's another story.

  6. There needs to be a full investigation of Fiji Airways as it appears the piloting standards have taken a dive.

I know this Captain and also know that he is a heavy consumer of yaqona.

Looks like another Fijian aviation disaster on the horizon.

Hope Fiji Airways code sharing partners are aware of the gross incompetence by this Captain and also international Civil Aviation Authorities.

How come also it has taken a week for News Media to report on the serious incident.

Did Fiji Airways think they could just sweep this under the carpet.

What sort of Safety Culture does Fiji Airways have. Many of us public are not impressed at all.

  13. Gucake did not report this? What about his co-pilot?

Why was the damage to the landing gears not detected in Sydney? Why was the aircraft allowed to take off again from Sydney, when the damage could have caused the aircraft's collapse on the tarmac on arrival at Nadi, killing its passengers? Was Emergency Services alerted and on standby at Nadi International Airport for the aircraft's return? What training and testing has been performed on the pilots?

This is a big cock-up that easily could have led to the deaths of many, many innocent people. Why has the Aviation Minister remained xo uncharacteristically quiet on this important issue affecting his portfolio and the public interest? What are we paying him for?

    ReplyDelete
  14. What name is Bainimarama giving his party? Doesn't it at least need a name before it can go around collecting signatures?

    ReplyDelete
  15. The landing sounds familiar, now that its been brought up.I had the experience of his landing also in February and I thought I was the only one noticing the un-parallel hard landing. It was windy and I thought the plane bounces few times before it touches smoothly. Bit windy I know but I thought the new plane still haunts his landing tactic. Good he has been stood down before any major disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sounds like Gucake flies the way Frank governs.

The problem is you can't keep circling. You gotta land this bird sometime!

    ReplyDelete
  17. It is a reflection of the regimes poor pilot training program before the plane was introduced. Now that they wanted all local pilots on these large planes shows where their mentality lies. Safety becomes 2nd issue. Time to introduce very tough laws including breath testing of local pilots.

  18. Kai Fijian

Fiji is a broke ass country sinking into poverty faster than the air bus that was grounded.

    ReplyDelete
  19. There needs to be an independent investigation into this incident.
We can no longer trust Fiji Airways or CAAFI.
    CASA or QANTAS should investigate.
It is fact that Capt Gucake initially failed sections of his A 330 Training so did the Chief Pilot Capt Cavalevu and Head of Training Capt Turaganivalu.
    All had repeated attempts.
    Very scary indeed !
And our lives are in their hands !

  20. Over one week since the incident and Fiji Airways makes a press statement.
    How absolutely shocking!
Just shows how much value is placed on transparency and safety being paramount.
This matter is not going to be swept away under the carpet.
I urge all to forward these blogs to reputable media outlets worldwide for their investigation.
PC 121 is going to happen all over again.

  25. Election this year and yet there's no party for Baimagasona. A idiot army fella can tell you that by now Baimagasona should have a party registered and a list of candidates announced. This absence looks very suspicious as Baimagasona knows he doesn't have a chance of becoming PM after the elections.

His right hand man Aiyarsehole knows very well that Baimagasona is not following the law, he's protecting Baimagasona.

Wake up Fiji, Baimagasona and Aiyarsehole are making fun of you people. Aiyarsehole is ready to flee the country so people of Fiji do whatever it takes to stop this asshole from running away.

  26. The police should arrest Bainimarama for violating his regime's decree on political parties, for;
    i. campaigning without registering his party.
ii. naming candidates before registering his party.
iii. using public funds while campaigning.
iv. using public funds, and public officers to collect the 5,000 signatures needed for his party.
He breaks all the laws, decrees, regulations, etc..not even the illegal ones that he has made.
That's the kind of wanna- be politician that he is, Fiji politics is far ahead of these petty, foolish, cheap tactics.

And that he only recently started flying again. The company apparently kept putting him through the hoops until he reached somewhere close to an acceptable standard. Can someone say cheese?

Colation will help with more votes and more seat in parliament.
We cant split the votes to give regime party any chance of winning some seats.
Colation parties should draw manifesto like its did in 1987 election flp/nfp colation.
We should have Sodelpa/FLP Colation bec NFP/Others are not coming togather they will join Franks Party.
Come on FLP/Sodelpa get it united now and beat Frank/Khaiyum party .
FLP/Sodelpa have a multiracial party and strong Mix Candidate..
PM LQ/MPC should be campaigning hard and United.
    We want Democracy not Dictatorship.
Voters need to Vote Sodelpa/FLP Colation.

We need to understand that he is trying to use international instruments to save his skin But he is doing it selectively.

Affirmative action is till needed for the indigenous people of this country and those of other ethnic groups that still need assistance especially in education and commerce.
If you stop this then start building big fences around your houses as we are indirectly allowing criminals to thrive at our backyard.

Those that use the international instruments as justification to their arguments are already in overseas countries. If you live in Fiji as I said before start building big fences around your houses and have three dogs and a security at your gate.

We still need AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICIES.

  39. Bainimarama was never very serious about this election. Despite all of his intimidation, campaigning, one-sided media coverage, and the millions he's borrowed against Fiji's future and spent on trying to win popularity, his internal polling still shows the election in serious doubt, with SODELPA the main threat. Unless he can find another way to neutralize the threat, such as through massive cheating, Bainimarama will need to "postpone" the election. Either way, it was important for his controlled media to claim polling figures pointing to a landslide electoral victory so that the regime will be in a position to protest its innocence when it pulls its fraud.

  49. The problem with the heavy landing is a culmination of poor executive decisions by former CEO David Pfliger that has now come home to roost. Despite the heavy "PR Media coating" things started to go very wrong when Pfliger entered the scene and the Qantas Board Members retreated. The problems at Fiji Airways can be still rectified but will require a change in board chairman and board membership with the inclusion of professionals from the other shareholders. The entire technical and operational aspect of the airline needs to be overhauled and competent airline executive recruited. Safety needs to be paramount.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Anon 7.39 raises an interesting point abour Fiji Airways use of PR. When the news first broke of this hard landing the airline was quick to retort that the plane had actually returned to Nadi and not stayed in Sydney. Somewhere, someone in the airline failed to realise that the more pressing issue wasnt if it returned or not, but the serious damage done to the flight. If the damage was so serious to remove it fom service for this long then how was it released for service from Sydney. Doesnt airline PR come under Shayne Hussein? He would not be able to see the forest for the trees if branches hit him in the head.

  59. Anon 3.48 How many Muslims do you know. I am not a Muslim but i know quite a few. Most and i mean most are ordinary folks going about their lives practicing a religion that they have been born into. Yes some may support the government just like people from all other races and faiths and some do not. They certainly do not have any violent tendencies. Most are people who's ancestors converted to Islam just like you kaiviti converted to Christianity.Your reaction to someones comment who is obviously deliberately inciting religious intolerance is a measure of your own intellect.
Your comments and reference to Sodomy makes you no different in thought to the Taliban or any other radical group. Islam as a religion maybe draconian a cult or whatever, most of the people who follow it are not radical and have logic and reason. With only 37,000 Muslims in Fiji with more than half being women and children out of a population of 900,000 i would hardly consider them to be a threat. The greatest threat to Fiji is its Military. How about taking a Vudi to the Queen Elizabeth barracks in Nabua if you are so full of bravado. They are the ones who are allowing ASK to get his way.

Voreqe is talking about an election that does not have a supervisor, not even an illegal decree.
After seven and half years this illegal regime has not prepared for an election, just false statements to window dress the international community and donors.
This illegal PM is using government funds to campaign and is delaying the chances of other parties to campaign. He is using civil servants to collect signatures and to promote some of his illegal regimes whitewash policies.
The truth is that the economy has failed, the sugar industry is collapsing, corruption is rife, confidence has eroded from institutions of government, confusion has plagued most ministries and departments as what the illegal constitution says, and what are the assurances from the illegal ministers. [ e.g illegal AG vs illegal Minister for Education - Prayers in Schools.

So much for the so called illegal road map. No wonder it was a fake road map because it is from a fake regime.

The legislation also allows Bainimarama to campaign in the lead up to election. Sayed-Khaiyum said that unless PM Bainimarama “goes and decides to take $23million like the agriculture scam and tries to buy everybody or giving out money or using that to buy votes, obviously that is an offence.” Any public officer and aspiring politician who continues to hold public office after the time at which his or her signed nomination as a candidate for election is delivered to the supervisor, then the person commits an offence and shall be liable upon conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding five years, or to both. 81. Former US candidate to stand for election

    Nasik Swami
    Friday, March 28, 2014

FROM the fast-paced life of busy American politics, to his homeland paradise in Fiji, Raman Velji has spent a great deal of his life involved in the often complex realm of politics.

And the 63-year-old is ready to do it again. This time for Fiji as he readies himself to either stand independently or join a political party at this year's general election in September.

The Nadi-born man, who left Fiji in 1969 to settle in the US, claimed he was the only Fijian to have ever contested in the US election and ran for the State Representative in 2000.

"I feel that with all the experience and knowledge that I have, I want to contribute something to the country of my birth.

"Presently, I have left all my options open, I have couple invitations but I have not made up my mind, I am in the process of doing that and hopefully, real soon, I will make a decision and start campaigning," Mr Velji said.

He said with such experience and knowledge, he had a lot to contribute.

  82. Commander in ChiefMarch 29, 2014 at 3:06 AM

THIS SO CALLED "Captain Gucake"spent 4 years trying to pass UE from 2 different schools but then again he appeared out of the woodwork and became Rabuka's helicopter pilot and then his class teacher from his 4th year in Natabua 6th form...yes 4th attempt at UE !! Paul HILTON the chief pilot was told by another idiot Rabuka implant(MATARETI TUISUE)the MFO to promote this feeble brained idiot or else....well the current chief pilot is Matareti TUISUE'S nephew,,,,who failed his Safety Management Systems course and became the chief pilot....well well never mind these idiots because a satanic Muslim failure has sucked his way to the top called AARON DEAN....the son of a close MUSLIM friend of AIYAZ........I GIVE UP !!!! WHEN WILL FIJI HAVE CREDIBLE PEOPLE IN CREDIBLE POSITIONS?? Look at Aslam khan...a drain digging telecom technician of 1984....sudden meteoric rise to stardom courtesy of a corrupt wife(DPP) who excuses Berenado Vunibobo's (HIS BOSS) NBF "problems". Mussollinni died beheaded and his head was placed on poles....is this going to happen to Fiji, because I would like to put the beheaded "heads" on my bar at home...please tell me the address to apply for these satanic heads for my bar.

This has angered their Leader. She was so pissed that she saw red when the women of Vutia came to perform their meke. Reason: PM recently did some development at Vutia and was treated like a King.A coup on her home soil.To top it off, PM appointed many villagers from Vutia Village to work at the WAF Rewa Depot in Waila,Nausori. This increased the Lady's ire.No Diplomacy, no tact. She is new to the game whilst the people of Bau are masters at it.

  87. The 2013 "Constitution" is not legislation but another illegal edict by an illegal regime.

It is rubbish. The prime ministership isn't a public office? Only in the New Fiji!

This is how ASK operates. It's always buried in the definitions. This is the tactic favoured by unscrupulous attorneys.

The opposition parties need to call a spade a spade. This government is illegal. Everything it has done and does is illegal. The BKC is illegal.

Stop playing by the rules of a regime that doesn't play by the rules. It just makes them up as it goes along.

Insist on the 1997 Constitution and compliance with the Appeal Court decision. And since this confirms there will be no level playing field, unite to boycott the rigged elections.

  88. Raman Velji ran for, and lost, a state representative position in the United States. That doesn't show a lot of "knowledge and experience". Running for political office in another country is also a potentially expatriating act. I wish him well, though, if he'll help us rid Fiji of the usurpers.

  95. I am told that Raman Velji was only 17 when he left Fiji. He had won the primary election but lost the general. He was also Chairman of 1st Congressional District. Just Google his name and see his experience. That is what I did.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I hope Biman runs NFP better than he ran the USP Faculty of Economics. Lot of complains against Biman by economics staff and he was sacked by VC Rajesh Chandra for favouring his friends like Rohit Kishore and Pramod Achari who were given jobs with no advertisement. Dr Rohit Kishore was sacked for forging his VC. Hope Biman shows better judgement as NFP leader.

  101. Just Situational LogicMarch 30, 2014 at 6:26 AM

High Tea is right. Stop playing by the regime's rules. It doesn't have the right to change the election rules.

The opposition must unite to insist on a caretaker government and an end to the regime's intimidation tactics. If Bainimarama is to contest the election, he must do so on a level playing field.

It's utterly nonsensical to say that those running to be PM are competing for public office and therefore must jump through numerous hoops, but the incumbent is not a public official and is therefore exempt. That's complete doublespeak and doesn't meet even the most minimal international standards for free and fair elections.

    ReplyDelete
  102. If only Dakuwaqa had stayed on the scene. He provided exactly the kind of clear-sighted objective, selfless leadership and organisational prowess our opposition needed to maintain its unity. He called it all from start to finish.

Now that the parties have instead decided to contest the election separately, playing on the regime's uneven playing field, it's mere childs play for Bainimarama to pit the parties against each other and to win the election by a plurality, if not an outright majority.

It's better to boycott now, in protest of the regime's unfairness in advance of the electoral sham, instead of after, when our motives can more easily be dismissed as merely '"sour grapes.".

  104. I want to wish Raman Velji all the best. Seeing his profile in FaceBook and the pictures with International Leaders tells me that he is experienced and well versed with politics. Otherwise he would not be seen with such high profile people. All I want to tall him is to join a party or start a new one. Please mr. Velji do not run as independent. All the best!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. How level is the playing field? It isn't at all. Therefore, refuse to play on it.

Don't wait until the game is over before you complain that you were playing on an uneven field . Better to refuse to play under such circumstances. Only then will the issue receive some of the attention it deserves.

You are certain to have something negative to say when you eventually scrape yourselves off the floor.

  117. Bainimarama's party should have been named
    CLEANED UP FIJI PARTY.
After 8 years of his "cleaning up" Fiji has :
    *no race
    *no crime
    * no corruption
    *no discrimination
    *no nepotism
    *no favouratism
    * no bad old politician
    * no thug rule
    * no thieving from the government coffers
    * no qoliqoli (only regime golli)
So Bainimarama should rule for another 8 or 18 years or for as long as he pleases with the backing of his gang in the Fiji Military.

  125. Only in the New Fiji can a director of FHL be considered a public official but the Prime Minister is not. The FHL director can be convicted of abuse of office 20 years after buying Class A shares, and thereby disqualified from running for office, but the PM can commit murder and treason, for which there is no statute of limitations, and run for office, whilst setting all of the election ground rules.

    Sound fair to you?

    1. Out of the 600 form seven (Toppers) only 8 are indigenous Fijians. Only 6 provinces in Fiji received topper scholarship not all of them
    2. He purposely removed all entrenched legislation in the constitution so that your land can be easily alienated.
    3. Vore has a debt of 7 Billion compared to 2. billion under the democratically elected government of Qarase.
4.He uses Khaihums's brain all the time because this guy only recahes form 5.
