Prasad affair leaves tatti on Bainimarama and Khaiyum's face

As they say, one down two to go.

Fiji First's vice president, Bijai Prasad, has resigned after being exposed for stealing $20,000 while working as a movement controller at Air Services Ltd at Namaka in 1982.

The crime was committed more than 30 years ago and he served a year of his three-year sentence but it was justifiably enough to bring the former Fiji Labour Party senator down very quickly.

Prasad was busted on Tuesday on this blog for theft and Fijileaks for being stripped of his Aussie citizenship as a result and resigned just a day later saying it was his own decision.

Egg on face: Bainimarama with Prasad.
"I have last night (Wednesday) submitted the withdrawal of my name as the vice-president of the proposed Fiji First Party to the proposed leader and to the proposed general secretary," he said in a press conference in Nadi yesterday, which was also attended by the illegal attorney-general, Minister for Elections and proposed Fiji First general secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

"I have done so because when I accepted the position, I did not disclose the fact that over 30 years ago, I was convicted on a criminal charge and served a prison term.

TIME TO GO: Khaiyum with Prasad yesterday.
"I did not disclose this information because of the fact that it was over 30 years ago and that under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Irrelevant Convictions Act 1997, records after 10 years are expunged."

Bainimarama and Khaiyum both have tatti on their face and should abandon this sham of an election: Khaiyum especially because it is a clear conflict of interest and Bainimarama because he has no mandate to lead Fiji to elections.

Khaiyum is the party's proposed general secretary but as we know, he registered the domain Fiji First in 2009 and proceeded to create decrees to restrict political parties, NGOs and churches in upcoming elections.

He yesterday mouthed this irony: "Mr Prasad obviously understands the level of standards that we (Fiji First) expect in terms of disclosure."

Khaiyum is not following Prasad's lead and claims he can stay on as Minister of Elections and Fiji First's general secretary because Sitiveni Rabuka and Laisenia Qarase were in similar positions in 1999 and 2001.

Qarase rejects Khaiyum's claim
QARASE: Calling for independence.
Qarase has today corrected Khaiyum in a statement, saying he was never Minister of Elections while leader of the SDL party.

He says the country has not had a Minister of Elections since Independence in 1970 because 'both the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Supervisor of Elections must carry out their functions within the laws regulating their operations, with complete independence and without interference from the Government in power.'

"This golden rule has been broken for the first time by the Bainimarama-Sayed-Khaiyum regime with the appointment of the Attorney- General as Minister responsible for elections.

"Mr Sayed-Khaiyum exercises the power of this portfolio as a member of a government with no legal or popular mandate, no accountability and no parliamentary oversight. This is the crux of his problem and public concerns about his role.

"In a parliamentary democracy, all government agencies must come under a ministerial portfolio. Both the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Supervisor of Elections have always come under the Prime Minister’s portfolio. As Prime Minister from 2000-2006 my role was two-fold in relation to the two agencies.

"Firstly, I was expected to deal with their submissions for budgetary allocations and, secondly, I had a duty to respond to parliamentary questions as they arose. In no way did I influence or interfere in the work of the Electoral Commission or the Supervisor of Elections. I am aware that the Prime Ministers who preceded me played a similar role."

Qarase says in contract both the regime's Prime Minister and Attorney-General have been in complete control of the current election process.

"The Attorney-General and Mnister of Elections, Mr Aiyaz Syaed-Khaiyum, must do the right thing and step down from the position of Minister of Elections. Indeed, there should be no Minister of Elections. The general election must be carried out by a truly independent Electoral Commission and Supervisor of Elections."

Both Khaiyum and Bainimarama have yet to make full disclosure of their bank accounts.

  1. Even assuming Fiji First is ever registered, its leadership is not abiding by the terms or the spirit of the People's Charter. Under the provisions of the Charter, it should therefore be deregistered.

  2. It's time for Australian and New Zealand reporters to ask their government ministers whether they believe Fiji is shaping up to have free and fair elections in view of the fact that the Minister for Elections is the putative Secretary-General of the party established by the illegal incumbent regime, is the author of the grossly unfair Electoral Decree and Constitution unilaterally imposed on Fiji, personally appointed the unqualified Supervisor of Elections, and isn't enforcing the election rules he authored against his own yet-to-be registered party. I'd love to hear Abbott or Key try to explain that one away!

It is just natural that birds of the same feathers flock together.

These people are so arrogant and they just do whatever they think they can do.

It is just the sing of things to come and I hope voters are conscious of this kind of attitude.

KE ERA A LAKO MAI LOMA E NA GAUNISALA BUTOBUTO ERA NA SAGA TALEGA NA VEI GAUNISALA BUTOBUTO ME RA TIKO DEI KINA.
But time is running out for them because AT THE END OF THE GAME NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW AND THEY MUST TAKE ALL THAT THEY HAVE DONE AS MEN.

This is HONESTY referred to by Khaihum i his recent outburst.

We need to see REAL Leaders NOT Animal Farm kind of leaders.

  6. The illegal appointment of another illegal ambasador to Geneva should be rejected by the UN community.
Fiji has a UN rep in Brussels, why another in Geneva?
There is even a UN rep in New York, USA.
The new illegal ambasador to Geneva should be arrested before arriving in Switzerland, which is a safe haven for dirty money from dictatorship regimes around the world.
The illegal appointment is highly likely to be a protectorate of Swiss Bank accounts of Fiji coupmakers, and not for the interests of our country.
Our trade with the EU is going down, and yet the illegal regime sees it fit to appoint an extra illegal ambasador, for what?
The illegal ambasador designate has to answer for treason charges here at home for the sacking of Chief Justice Fatiyaki and the illegal appointment of Justice Gates.
Also for the illegal reasoning of the doctrine of necessity, and the illegal extra ordinary power of the President in 2006.
The country needs answers to these acts from people who seem to be slowly getting on the run.

  7. Interesting article about another criminal trying to forge links with FF:

    http://www.fijitimes.com/story.aspx?id=267903

FUGITIVE from Fiji, Australian Peter Foster made an application yesterday for the return of his passports.

His lawyer Barbara Malimali made the application before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili yesterday.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecution Michael Delaney told the court Mr Foster was someone wanted by other jurisdictions apart from Fiji. He said he would need time to consult and file the reply.

The court has allowed Mr Delaney six weeks to respond and an additional two weeks for the defence to reply.

Hearing for the matter will take place on August 1. In January, the DPP's Office withdrew the charges against Mr Foster but have asked the court not to release the travel documents because the accused absconded from the law.

The DPP, Christopher Pryde, said he was at liberty to reinstate these charges in the future.

"The charges were not dismissed and Mr Foster has not been acquitted. The reason we withdrew the charges is because he fled the jurisdiction," he said.

"He remains on the watch list and will be arrested once he returns to Fiji and recharged."

    [END]

we will remember that Peter Foster is helped by Laisa Vulakoro, a long-time friend, in his attempt to move to Fiji, most probably in exchange of an undisclosed amount of money. It has been established that mrs Vulakoro went to Brisbane the very day Peter Foster appeared in the media for the last time, which was confirmed by some passengers. Mrs Vulakoro denied any contact with Foster...

  8. Tupeni Baba's Racist Views on Indo-Fijians

The incredibly confused and racist views of Tupeni Baba, former Professor of Education at USP, former Deputy PM under Chaudhry in the FLP-led Government, founder of the New Labour Party in opposition to Chaudhry, currently a member of the SDL party, who is still looking for a political home. In this email to political friends he tells us what he thinks of Indo-Fijians. It provides a good example of how a person's perceptions are distorted by their prejudices.

"Let me just comment briefly on the Indo Fijian situation For them politics is life, it is the only way forward apart from education. They will mortgage their farms and pay for the fees of their children but politics is the leverage through which they can access all the other conditions they cannot access otherwise.

"As a group that are already been broken up by colonisation and when they came through the 'Girmit' they crossed the 'kala pani' or muddy water(ocean) which means that all their cultural and caste identities have been stripped off them. They are therefore no longer constrained by any 'vakavanua system' and it works both ways for them.Their suicide rate is very high but one ting is clear, they know they cannot rely on anybody and they will try anything that works for them.

"This is why come elections, they will band together make up any of their differences because they know, its the one continuing hope for them.

"In Fiji today, their Parties are divided. FLP is badly broken, all the Leaders except Mahen Chaudhary and his sons are with the father.Kris Datt has finally decided to break out and is the process of forming a Party. He is 'testing the waters' and trying hard to attract others who had been disillusioned with the old FLP like Poseci,Atu Bain and others. They are trying to get me back but that is no longer possible. KDatt is also looking to us to take him in, but we should not at this stage, do anything. Let him stew in his pot a little while!

"The trade union wing of FLP (Felix and co) is looking another way. They prefer to keep the 'FLP brand' but the question now is who is going to tie the bell on the neck of the Cat(Mahen Chaudhary)? They are scheming MC's downfall and once that is done, they will resuscitate the FLP.When that is done,'all hands will be on deck' including KDatt,Poseci, Mahen's friends and all the crowd and survivors of the Titanic ship. The Party can be revived within a month with resources from overseas as well as brain work from overseas.

"The appearance of division and chaos at the moment belies the plotting and the planning and of course the scheming that is going on.Mr Jai Ram Reddy recently visited them. He would have advised them what strategy to take and when Mahen is 'handcuffed' by the Court and prevented from participating, the rebuilding of the Party will start and that will be the call for 'all hands on deck'

"At that point, everything and everybody will be 'brothers and sisters' again' and that can take no more than a month. They do not need to 'take the tabua' around to call everybody back. Every body knows the drill....

"The script is already written, right down to the catch cry; it is in the Holy Book-the Gita. When the catch cries are heard such as: 'We must do our duty' or 'It is in our Karma' so we must do it for our future....!When you hear this, you know they are ready...

"What about us, are we ready?

    "Sa dri yani!
    Tupeni"

Barka thinks he is too smart, but ASK has got him nice and tight. MPC cant trust anyone with FLP leadership bar his sons. RPC the most likely replacement cant enter into Fiji as he will be charged for contempt of court. This leaves his only son in Fiji, Mr know it all who drinks coffee at Bulacinno all day to become leader of the FLP. Should this happen, RPC will go ballistic and expose SPC. Meanwhile former bhabi of the family, Julie Alexander is ready for any eventuality.

  28. Nepotism goes unchecked
Khaiyum, with his mother Latifa Khaiyum, formed Latifa Investments Ltd in March 2005. They gave their address as 40 Lovoni Road, Suva. The property is now heavily guarded by the police at taxpayers expense after a break-in in 2008.

The property in Berry Road, Suva used to be the office of Fiji Women's Crisis Centre before they moved to new headquarters just before the December 5, 2006 coup.

Remember that in August 2005 Khaiyum also filed a case against his neighbours the Fongs, in the High Court, claiming that he had the right to buy the property because they had promised to sell it to him. Yet another ruse, to acquire and sell at an inflated price through Latifa Investments Ltd?

Latifa is 99 per cent owned by Khaiyum and one per cent by his mother. On 15 March 2005 he informed the Registrar of Companies: “I, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum (father’s name Sayed Abdul Khaiyum) of Suva in the republic of Fiji Islands, do solemnly and sincerely declare that I am a barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Fiji engaged in the formation of Latifa Investments Limited .... and I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true and according to the Statutory Declarations Act 1970.”

It was signed before Commissioner of Oaths Mohini D Prasad, Barrister and Solicitor, Fiji. On 14 March 2005, another signature of his was witnessed by Volisa Lydia Elaisa, the legal secretary, Colonial Bank.

  30. Sure, the whole world can see through the scheming of the Fiji regime. However, those who believe that the “international community” or Fiji’s direct neighbors Australia and NZ will help those who oppose the dictatorship must be delusional. A look around the world will soon reveal that Fiji’s dictator is pretty safe and his human rights abuses will not trigger any action. Even regimes which commited crimes worse than what Bainimarama and Khaiyum did, get away with impunity. The latest UN report into human rights in North Korea laid out human rights abuses in stomach-turning detail: the torture, the deliberate starvation, the executions committed in a network of secret prison camps. The individual cases break the heart: the seven-year-old girl beaten to death over a few extra grains of food; the boy whose finger was chopped off for accidentally dropping a sewing machine in the factory where he was forced to work; and, most shocking of all, the mother forced to drown her just-born baby in a bowl of water. The report’s lead author, retired Australian judge Michael Kirby clearly hopes that now that the evidence is laid out, action will follow. “Now the international community does know, there will be no excusing a failure of action because we didn’t know. It’s too long now. The suffering and the tears of the people of North Korea demand action.”
It’s a similar story in Syria. Less than a month has passed since a report laid out comprehensive evidence of the suffering of detainees at the hands of the Assad regime. That report, like the latest one on North Korea, detailed murder through starvation, beatings and torture – complete with photographs of emaciated bodies. The authors noted chilling echoes of the Nazi crimes of the 1940s. Yet did that report spark a worldwide demand for action, with demonstrations outside parliaments and presidential palaces? It did not. The chief response was a global shrug. Maybe this is what it means to live in the post-intervention era. It makes today a good time to be a dictator, a butcher or the torturing head of a brutal regime. The world will let Bainimarama carry on abusing human rights – even when it knows exactly what is happening. So better be prepared to do something yourself rather than begging for help from outside.

@9:16 don't be sarcastic, the power of love my friend is something behond imagination! It is because God loved ypu and Bainimarama so much that he gave his only son so that those who believe in him might be saved. Bainimarama, Speight and Rabuka are your brothers man.

Our women will do a great job I am sure about that, no need to believe in Nostradamus, just in common sense and the power of love ! Fortunately, our women understands that better, it's because they don't have testosterone which is an hormone that increases aggressiveness considerably. Fiji's problems are essentially hormonal, hence the need of women at the top.

DON'T FORGET! Tomorrow is Mother's day and we start wearing PINK bula-shirts or pink ribbons! There is no "march" as such, but we all walk everywhere in Fiji with our pink bula shirts! A march will just mess up the traffic, what we want is a MORE COMMITED action than a little march that will have no lasting impact. In order to pass our message, we wear PINK! That's good for you too Mr Bainimarama, show us that you have a heart and you can open your arms to your opponents! Let only the elected women form a cabinet, everybody else is OUT!

The 'email' you cite here and attribute to Baba was originally posted by Croz Walsh on his blog on July 18 2012. While there was no recorded reply from Baba, the authenticity of the email was thoroughly challenged. C4.5 has no immediate way of verifying the email at this time and therefore notes the original source and context. We also wonder whether Anon is in fact Croz Walsh since the author is so determinedly anti-Baba and SODELPA. C4.5 Editor.

  54. The Fiji Times reported on 11 March 2006 that the ruling SDL had approached Baba with an invitation to contest the parliamentary election scheduled for 6–13 May under the SDL banner. On 18 March, the SDL announced that Baba had been approved as its candidate for the Tamavua Samabula Open Constituency. Fiji Village quoted Baba as saying that his decision to join the SDL was motivated by what he called the lack of leadership in the FLP.

FLP politicians, however, poured derision on the move. Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said that Baba was a deserter, and that the SDL must be "hard up for candidates" to have selected a man like him, while Deputy Leader Poseci Bune told the Fiji Sun that he was baffled by the turn of events. "He used to be a liberal left winger but now he is back to nationalist. SDL must be desperate for candidates," he surmised. Fijian Political Party (SVT) General Secretary Ema Druavesi also expressed disappointment with Baba's decision, saying he had joined a party lacking "the character of a good leadership."

The Fiji Times quoted Baba on 20 March as saying that the SDL was "the only alternative for Fiji moving forward." He praised its success in reviving the economy; he conceded that some of its legislation was controversial, but saw it as an attempt to move the country forward. He still considered himself a liberal and a socialist, he said, but insisted that had to be seen in the multiracial context of Fiji. His former party, the FLP, gave mere lip service to multiracialism, he charged. "I have responded to the request of the SDL party according to the mood of politics because I am fed up of confrontational and negative politics," he said.

Bottom line is I think the Marama knows very well what she is doing when she associates with people like Waqausa.

As for Ro Dona, people in Burebasaga and all of Fiji know that the Marama is strong-willed and she will not necessarily listen to Ro Dona. Though as you said it would be good if Ro Dona is advising the Marama on her continued association with Waqaiusa and company.

Even more so when the same Minister for Elections is also the source of a totally unreasonable and unpopular Electoral Decree and Constitution, which has been unilaterally imposed on voters, supposedly setting the election rules, but which apparently cannot be applied to:
    Bainimarama’s yet- to-be registered Party,
Bainimarama’s yet- to-be confirmed Party Leader,
Bainimarama’s yet- to-be confirmed Secretary General Khaiyum.

It needs to be clearly stated both by the political parties and the electoral office and commission, as highlighted by a letter to the editor in the FTimes, that signing support for a party on their recruitment drive for members does not automatically constitute an electoral vote. 78. Read the media article below. Chaudhry said people were suffering in the refugee camp. Girmit Centre had 300 residents in the camp when Chaudhry was making these comments to Bajpai.

So money was NOT for FLP but was custodian for appeal he made for the refugee community.

    [PTI NEWS ACHIVES]
Uphill task ahead to bring Fiji back to normal:Chaudhry
NEW DELHI, Feb 26: Ousted Fijian Prime Minister Mahendra Chaudhry, awaiting the country’s Supreme Court judgement on restoration of an elected Government, today said bringing Fiji back to normal would be "an uphill task."
"So much damage has been done to the national economy and racial relations that whichever Government comes will have an uphill task," Chaudhry said here.
Chaudhry, who called on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, told reporters that he apprised him of "the latest situation" in Fiji.
He said the country’s Supreme Court is taking up the case of restoring an elected Government on March one.
The ousted Premier said his meeting with Vajpayee was "fruitful" and that the Prime Minister assured him of due help.
Chaudhry, who was toppled in a coup by rebel leader George Speight last year, said the international community in general and Government of India in particular should "intervene immediately" to help out the Indians settled in the Island nation.
"The plight Indian farmers is serious as most of the land lease is to expire on December 31 and the Indians are being driven out of their place of stay," he alleged.
"Hundreds of people have been rendered homeless and forced to camp in refugee camps," Chaudhry said.
Pointing out that after the first coup in 1987 no effort was made to improve racial relations or adequate legislation enacted to provide protection to Indians, he said " we second time".
Chaudhry, who originally hails from Rohtak in Haryana, is expected to hold discussions with Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala on February 28. (PTI)

Tell that to George Speight and the Qaranivalu you idiot. If given the chance they would take this country through another 2000-like coup.

Tell that to the people that support people like the Qaranivalu and Speight and they just can't wait to take Fiji back to those days in 2000 when thousands of our Indian brothers and sisters were fearful for their lives and property and Fijians were deceived into believing that the coup was not mounted to help Speight evade conviction for his corruption.

When you've figured that out then maybe you'll realize that people don't really support more coups, they support politicians that do not want to take Fiji back to another 2000-like coup and people like Qarase who were too weak to do anything about controlling nationalists like Speight.

  90. What has Bainimarama done with Fijian land? He has formed another competing institution - the land Bank.

What has he done with NLTB? He has renamed it as ITLTB, and has unilaterally decided to reorganize the way lease money is being distributed, taking away the percentage reserved for tribal leaders and chiefs.

What has he done with scholarships for Fijians at tertiary levels, he has abolished the FAB and Multi-Ethnic scholarships.

What has he done with the chiefly system? he has abolished the GCC, yet he hoodwinks the chiefs when he visits the villages by sitting down with them and even getting a chief to be his party's VP.

Look at what happened to Fiji TV, Yasana Holding,Fijian Holdings, and the Provincial councils. The shareholders have been threatened and military appointments made to their boards and senior staff.

This illegal regime must not be trusted by the indigenous Fijians.
Not a single non-indigenous institution was shaken by regime.

With the Kai Viti, your score is zero!! Not even the roads, the ships, and the power supply count.

  91. Anon @ 4:33 AM, apparently you don't read or follow events very closely. The circumstantial, eyewitness, and documentary evidence against Baininimarama regarding his role as mastermind of the 2000 is quite substantial. It's been covered on this and other blogs fairly extensively (see, for example, this website's article "Bainimarama's Dirty Coup Secrets Revealed" of 02 March 2012).

Why else do you think Bainimarama is holding the CRW chaps incommunicado? It's because he doesn't want them revealing his role in the 2000 coup. Why else did Bainimarama refuse to talk to the Board of Inquiry? It's because he had nothing with which to refute the BOI's damning evidence against him.

Hey, did you know that Roko Ului fled to Tonga and is willing to testify against Bainimarama? Plenty of other people are ready to turn state's evidence as well.

Sorry if this all comes as a shock to you. But you really should try to get out more.

  100. Editor,
A short time back the foreign ministers of Australia and New Zealand - Bishop and McCully - told us they were very impressed with the progress the Bainimarama military government in Fiji has made to hold elections and return the country to democracy.
The latest news from Fiji is that the Attorney-General and Minister for Elections Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum is also the secretary-general of the coup leader cum self-appointed PM Frank Bainimarama's Fiji First Party.
Despite the call by the democratic opposition in Fiji for Mr Khaiyum to resign he insists there is no conflict of interest.
Is this the sort of progress the foreign ministers found impressive?
Is this how the country will be returning to democracy?
Is this the way to hold a free and fair election?
What kind of democracy is Fiji likely to have post elections?
    sincerely,

This does not sound being very responsible, does it?
    No it doesn't.
It in fact has a very foul smell about it.
    Many people have noticed that.
That's why they are calling on him to resign as Elections Minister.

The Fiji Sun paid regime propagandist Nemani Delaibatiki tells us in his article 'Shut up Beddoes, poll says' (FS 10/5) that many "part-Europeans who were classified in the old constitution as "others" are now happy because they are now called Fijians like everyone else, under the new Constitution.
I am happy to hear that. There was a time - not too long back - when many "part- Europeans" were happy to regard themselves and to be regarded as Europeans in colonial and post-colonial Fiji society - with all the special privilege that entailed.
Now the part-Europeans have become Fijians and according to Nemani Delaibatiki and the Fiji Sun's "poll" they want Bainimarama regime critic Mick Beddoes to " shut up" and " stop complaining".
If the Bainimarama regime and the regime mouthpiece paper the Fiji Sun have it their way they would like everyone to shut up and stop complaining. And, this mob claim Fiji is being headed back to democracy.
Democracy doesn't work that way stupid!

Ministers for Elections, and Party Officials.
Letter to Editor (The Fiji Times, Fiji Sun, Island Business, Republika) (9 May 2014)
    Professor Wadan Narsey

    Dear Sir,

According to news reports Mr Aiyaz Khaiyum is reported to be justifying his remaining as Minister for Elections while also being General Secretary to the proposed Fiji First Party by claiming that Rabuka in 1999 and Qarase in 2001 and 2006 were also in a similar position.

While it might raise some eyebrows a teensy weensy bit to see Khaiyum justifying his behaviour today by referring to similar behaviour by previously maligned “old politicians”, there are some profound differences, other than age and maturity.

Rabuka and Qarase were lawfully elected Members of Parliament, Ministers and Prime Ministers while Khaiyum holds all his ministerial positions courtesy of Rear Admiral Bainimarama’s illegal military coup and an unelected government.

Rabuka’s and Qarase’s governments annually published all the Auditor General Reports on their respective governments’ revenue collection, expenditure and public debt borrowing, thereby showing their willingness to be accountable to the voters (and taxpayers) of Fiji.

In contrast, Bainimarama and Khaiyum, arrogantly refuse to release the Auditor General Reports, showing their utter contempt for the basic principle of accountability of all Ministers (including the Minister for Elections) to tax-payers for the last eight years (two normal terms of government), and also suggesting to voters with any active brain cells, that this government has a lot to hide.

There is therefore a mountain of difference between an elected accountable Minister of Elections holding a political party position, and an unelected and unaccountable Minister such as Mr Khaiyum.

Even more so when the same Minister for Elections (Khaiyum) is also the source of a totally unreasonable and unpopular Electoral Decree and Constitution, which has been unilaterally imposed on the voters of Fiji, supposedly setting the election rules, but which apparently cannot be applied to Bainimarama’s yet- to-be-registered Party, its yet-to-be-confirmed Party Leader, and yet-to-be-confirmed Secretary General Khaiyum. Khaiyum also has appointed his own personal choice of Supervisor of Elections who does not have the slightest chance of being called “old” anything.

This is like the manager of a street fighter insisting on being the referee of a boxing match with the opponents having to follow all the Queensberry rules set by the manager himself, with the rules not applying to his own street fighter.

Or perhaps a more colourful analogy splashed with lots of red, this situation is comparable to a smooth and suave Count Dracula insisting on being the General Manager of the Blood Bank.

  111. Dear Sir,

Thank you for allowing us the people to have a voice in matters that affect our lives today and tomorrow. Just a few comments.

    1. Shameem's move to Geneva is a definite clue to what has been planned by the regime. It has a direct bearing on the results of the election which the regime already knows.

    2. Why Geneva. What does Fiji have to do with Geneva that cannot be handled in London, Brussels and New York? Aha! You see, Geneva is the major international safe house of all types of money. Why else would a prominent legal adviser of the Fiji regime be appointed to Geneva?

    3. The FF party registration also requires a declaration of all their officials’ personal assets. Now, how does that relate to Shameem’s appointment?

    4. Given the vital role Nazhat has been playing for this regime, why would she go to Geneva at this time, especially prior to declaration of assets and the Sept election?

The above are more dots which people can connect with all others. Connecting the dots will help us see the design and plans and the motives and goals of the regime. But one thing is certain. Their plans are not honourable and are bad for the majority of people of Fiji. They will hold onto power until we the people dislodge them.

    5. On the other side of the river, have another read on Prof Narsey’s article. Or the former PM Qarase’s response. These articles reveal great minds, deep and lucid thoughts that probe the problems and issues facing Fiji today.

Dr Narsey has been trying to help us understand how unjust and deeply destructive this regime has been. Mr Qarase has again confirmed that. Both people represent the kind of people who have a deep and clear understanding of issues and challenges we face as a nation and the possible solutions we can consider. But the solution to Fiji’s challenges also implies that the sooner this regime goes, the better it will be for Fiji and all our people.

For your information the major projects that you named were funded by government loans from China and other communist and Asian sources which the fiji taxpayers will have to repay in years to come. that is why our foreign debt has gone up to almost $8 billion fron about $1 billion when the coup happened.

  121. Finding pink courage is apparently not easy.May 11, 2014 at 3:48 PM

@3.11 PM Don't ask where is our brigade, tell us where have you been today!

We have to understand that the root problem that we are talking about here is violence. Bainimarama is a violent man, no one can deny that. The photos published by C4.5 of soldiers who were assassinated or the evidences given by those who were brought to the barracks are sufficient to rest this case. But Bainimarama is not alone! We shall not forget that, in 2000, a lot of people in Fiji supported violence, directly and indirectly, and took part in violent crimes. The "noqu vanua noqu kalou" crowd seems quiet these days, but they were more visible a decade or so ago. It is also a fair assumption to say that most of that violence was manmade. We shall not also forget that 2/3 of men are violent husbands and partners at time! On top of that, there are less courageous men writing violent messages on this forum, even targeting women with indecent and absurd remarks. No matter how "god-fearing" men will pretend to be, a fact remain: there are few of them around. There is certainly a genetic deficiency on the Y chromosome, or is it an "adaptation" inherited from natural selection in a distant past?

Anyway, those who seriously think that they can organize a new "coup" to end the coup that was supposed to end all coups are wrapping themselves into delusion. History has already shown 3 times how amateurish and unprofessional the army can be when the water starts boiling! And these characteristics are also observed amongst the population! Our point is that violence will no be the solution to this coup: it could actually easily destroy the tourism industry if a few things went wrong and the currency would collapse overnight, bringing absolute chaos and a restless environment of vengeancd. The reason why business people and a lot of people support the statu quo is exactly because they are aware of that...but they lack the intelligence to accept that one day, Bainimarama won't be around: people die young in Fiji... Hell is never far away under your feet when trouble starts in Melanesia and apparently this is why more than 40000 people chose to back up the violent man recently...which is plain absurd somehow, but "understandable". Fear of violence is what we are talking about here. Men are unpredictable violent brutes at times, and Fiji has a culture of violence that is deep-rooted in history. We can't deny that. So what can we do?

Well, since that a strong religious component exists alongside a violent culture in our islands (I prefer the word "superstitious" to "religious" since we wouldn't be discussing here if the later was true) I think that we have to play on this aspect in order to find a way out. Nowhere in any religious book are there references to God as being a violent entity teaching us to massacre each other. In this regard, we have to accept that non-violence will be the only way forward and we shall emphasize on this in our approach when the time will come to take emotively difficult decisions.

We have an opportunity to use non-violence on the 17th of September by wearing pink bula shirts or ribbons and by voting for female candidates. There is no point about saying that some women are violent and some men are not, of course it's a reality. But have you ever think about this: in a society where men dominate politics, and where politics are rude and sometimes violent, this creates an environment where women, mostly non violent, can't find their niche? A..ha! Here is the central aspect of our plan: we want to bring together a group of female leaders, most of them we presume non violent, to form a government and pick up, in the population, those non violent but skilled and intelligent women who turned their back on politics because of its dangerous, macho and violent nature. Women only can get us going somewhere at this point. Women are the pillars of this country.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Real men support women.May 11, 2014 at 3:49 PM

We might never be able to punish Bainimarama, that job will remain the prerogative of the Almighty when the time comes. But for sure we will punish our children if we chose the path of violence. You people have a few months to ask yourself if your are brave enough to wear a pink bula shirt or a pink ribbon to express clearly your preference. An other Fiji is possible if we come back to sanity. A saw a few people wearing pink clothes today...obviously Fijians are far from being ready for a march...but still there is some time to think about it before the elections.

I do not think that punishing Bainimarama, Kaiyum and other criminal is more of a priority than punishing 66% of the men who have bashed their wives. It would also be naive to think that all business people before the coup or after the coup are paying all their due taxes. There are more criminals than we think! Actually, here I could refer to some religious scripture about "judgment" but you have already gotten the point. If we can't jail all those who supported previous coups, all those who are violent at times, then well...Bainimarama shall have his "free" ticket to freedom I suppose, since that's the only non violent option. It is most disturbing to accept, but I suppose that if the women who were beaten in Queen Elizabeth barracks could forgive their aggressors publicly, then we shall be able to do it too.

If we want to have an honest voting process (the elections wont be honest because of the reasons we all know) we need to be able to show our colors so that foreign medias and observers will be able to take notice. Our color is PINK.

We think that supporting any woman is the most acceptable way to go.

May God bless all women and show them the way forward for our country. May men have the humility to step down and let professionals run the show for some time.

    Happy mother's day everybody!

Rakesh Kumar, Vinod Segran, Mataiyasi Ului and Maikeli Loko appeared before Justice Sudharshan De Silva charged with the murder of Nadi carpenter Arun Vasudewan.

  140. @11.45PM it's probably better for you to get rid of your Old Testament if that is your interpretation and stick to the Gospel. What matters is not the detail of obscure religious books but the noble values they are supposed to carry in order to build better societies.

As for ourselves, we are women so we don't need religious/esoteric books to make up our minds about what make sense and what doesn't! Violence doesn't, love does. Most women know naturally what is wrong and what is right, it doesn't have to be "learned" in any book. So that's why we are Fiji's only hope now. Simple and beautiful, don't you reckon?

As for Nostradmus...I'd love to think that we could fulfill his "barbarian men decay before the moon completes it's cycle" prophecy though... Bainimarama has to go. That can be done the Pacific way if the people of Fiji have some guts! I never thought that wearing pink would be such a big deal for the "courageous" men of Fiji...it's more easy than a march!!! If you guys can't even do that, you deserve whatever is looming ahead.

I shall say, by the way, that most people in Fiji don't have an internet access and do not enjoy the comfort and luxury that many writers on this blog do. They are poor people who only care about a better peaceful future so keep that in mind before saying crap and destroying their hopes!

  142. The new city contemplating a condemnation,
The bird of prey offers itself to the heavens.
    In judgment it falls mute,

Could this be a Nostradamus prediction about Suva and the fall of Bainimarama?

    ReplyDelete
  143. Wow, Nostradamus Lady, the Old Testament is now an "obscure religious book"?!

This "obscure" book is the most published book in the history of the world. Just because it isn't on YOUR bookshelf doesn't mean it's obscure.

The violence of the Old Testament is a matter of my interpretation? Or is it the settled interpretation of centuries of biblical scholarship?

Ever hear about the fall of Jericho? The Israelites did as instructed by Yahweh. They slaughtered men and women, young and old, even the oxen and sheep and donkeys, massacring them all. (Joshua 6:21)

The same for the people of Ai; for "Yahweh said to Joshua... "You are to do with Ai and its king as you did with Jericho and its king..."Joshua 8:2 And "the number of those who fell that day, men and women together, was twelve thousand, all people of Ai ... All to a man had fallen by the edge of the sword".Joshua 8:24-25

The same in southern Canaan, which "Yahweh gave into the power of Israel; and Israel struck every living creature there with the edge of the sword, and left none alive".Joshua 10:30

The same at Lachish where "no one was left alive".Joshua 10:33

And so on and so on.

    Is the Quran also obscure?

Quran (8:12) - "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them". The Quran has many other verses advocating violence.

You can quote us the quatrains of Nostradamus, and yet you consider the Bible and Quran "obscure religious books"?!

Just how do YOU interpret these scriptural verses -- to mean we should wear pink?

@1.58am so we have an overseas specialist telling us more about the bible...great! Like if there were not enough of those foreign businessmen in Fiji! Anyway, how do you reconcile your best-seller with all that with the teachings of Jesus where non-violence is an essential component?

Religious books are certainly confusing and full of contradictions. I rather stay clear of them and use my heart and my brain. Millions of years of evolution shouldn't be in vain!

As for 12.32 AM, can you tell us the ration between men and women in jail to support your "literature"? Are you also suggesting that 2/3 of women are beating their husbands/partners? Nah... really! Scientific literature tells us that testosterone increases aggressiveness, that's a fact you can check online...

  150. It was a new beginning for the Vugalei Landowners and Sawmillers Association Ltd (VLSAL) after officially receiving their mahogany licence at Waidra, Kasavu in Naitasiri yesterday.
Ratu Meli Serukalou in his sevusevu presentation to the Prime Minister, Rear Admiral (Retired) Voreqe Bainimarama said their struggle for the past two years had paid off.
“Your coming today (yesterday) has given us a new hope and a new beginning and you should continue to do what you are doing for the country,” Ratu Meli said.
“We have seen the progress you have been doing and you are such an easy man to bring our problems to.”
Mr Bainimarama said the licence is for mahogany logs of up to 1800 cubic metres in one year.
“This include 1600m3 for Grade 3 and 200m3 for Grade 4 and this goes with the hope that you will fulfill the terms and conditions of the licence,” he said.
“To fulfill the terms and conditions of the licence there is a need for a combined effort from everybody.”
VLSAL chairman Ratu Emori Latitoga said he was very happy as now the landowners could use their own resources.
“VLSAL started in 2003 and was closed in 2008 after the mahogany decree was introduced and today (yesterday) was a very important day for us,” he said.
“We are doing all this for our children because they will benefit from what we are doing and we will try our best to comply with the terms and conditions of the licence.”
The Prime Minister thanked the VLSAL for being one of the groups to get a mahogany licence

  158. it is quite clear now that to become a Prime Minister one has to aim to becoming the head of the Army or even second or third in command. All you have to do is stage a coup in the name of protecting the country, change the constitution to enshrine immunity, torture people to frighten the shit out of them so they don't retaliate, distribute money and do some roads etc, form a party and run for election to legitimise yourself. All these democratic bullshit, good governance, transparency, accountability etc does not matter. The international community will eventually accept you after initial rejection.People have no choice anymore the people with guns have all the power.

Frank just to save himself did all these just to save himself from jail otherwise the CRW were going to meet him in jail. Frank was the guy the Speight was waiting to show up after he took over parliament. He pulled out when he found out there was no support from people. So he went against the CRW and jailed the, THAT IS WHY THERE WAS A MUTINY because the CRW soldiers were let down. In effect Frank liumuiri them. All that has now put the country in so much shit that it is hard to even come back and have a democracy. So Frank knows what he has done. The others who joined in are not to be blamed but they were all opportunists.

  159. Woman etc. @ 7:57 AM, maybe you are a butch dyke blogging from abroad. That's why you post at 1 AM. That's also why you weren't able to muster any pink marchers. It also explains your anti-men and anti-religious attitudes.

You don't have to be a specialist to read the Bible. How do I reconcile the Old and New Testaments, you ask? Why, are you saying now that one is true, the other false?

You say you stay clear of religious books. If so, then don't discuss what you don't know.

You say you use your brain. Little evidence of that. For example, you want to organise a social movement in Fiji, but the first thing you did was to exclude half of the population (men) from your movement. The next thing you did was to alienate Christians and Muslims. Not very bright.

You say millions of years of evolution shouldn't be in vain, and yet you put down testosterone as if it were a disease and speak of men as if they haven't evolved at all. Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps you're the one who hasn't evolved? You're certainly bigoted and not very literate.

You say that no solution to Fiji's problems will be found without a massive input by the loving mothers and sisters of Fiji. That may be so. But isn't it also true that men need to be part of the solution?

By excluding them, you're not helping Fiji. All you're doing is helping the regime with its divide and rule tactics.

  161. The hypocrisy and double standards within Fiji just have to be laughed at.

Here we have a case of someone being forced out of an administrative position due to having been found guilty of a theft offence some 30 years ago.

If we read today papers the headlines are that a Christian Church Leader who was found guilty, convicted as a sex offender and imprisoned is now on release.

The release from prison of this convicted vile sex offender has allowed him to immediately return to preaching sermons under the guise of Christianity.

The ironic thing is that this disgusting sex offender who is the most despicable example of moral standards has been welcomed back by a congregation of what is considered a Christian following.

Quote "" ALL Nations Christian Fellowship leader Reverend Epeli Ratabacaca held his first church sermon yesterday after being released from prison last week.

Mr Ratabacaca, who was found guilty of one count of sexual assault against a church member in 2012, was welcomed by his church congregation.

Church general secretary Josefa Tuitoga said about 1000 church members from the Central and Eastern divisions welcomed their leader in Suva during the service."" Unquote

When you talk about bainimarama and treason, you can't separate mahen, the treasonist chor who approved huge, corrupt Bainimarama backpay, and provided crucial support for the coup. There is one more charge left for mahen - aiding and abetting treason.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I'm not a Mahen supporter. He should be tried for treason, as you say. But it remains the case that he has already been tried and convicted of lesser crimes, which render him ineligible to run for office. So, why obsess about him when we've much bigger fish to fry? It seems you're trying to distract us from the main issue, which is Bainimarama's treason. Keep bringing up Mahen, if that gets your rocks off, but then I'm going to keep refocusing us back on the main issue, which is Bainimarama's treason.

Expected Indians to stay after the Bainimarama coup, instead they are leaving in droves
Expected racial divide to be narrowed, instead it is as wide as ever

So what the fuck are the Indians thinking, do you expect things will change for the better for you. ?My advice for you is to stop thinking Bainimarama will save you. Having a new electoral system is no guarantee for safety, though I see it as as a positive step. We could have done this ourselves, however Bainimarama, used this as an excuse to justify his actions which were totally different from his original intention - to rid of the corrupt SDL government which till now has never been found guilty
So the message to you Indians, you a just pawns in this whole game. Bainimarama does not give a shit about you or anyone else

I suppose one of the next steps will be for the regime leaders to finish hiding their assets in overseas accounts and shell companies (e.g., Waqavuka Financing Ltd.?), and perhaps even to temporarily limit themselves to single paychecks, in order to file asset statements in mock compliance with their own election decree.

At that point, of course, the regime's running dogs in the captive media, its Qorvis mercenaries, and its apposite-thumbed trolls at Berkeley Crescent can be relied upon to trumpet that this proves the regime had nothing to hide, that Coup 4.5 and other critics were wrong all along, etc. A simple lifestyle check will contradict those claims however.

  186. This illegal regime says that Waqavuka Investment is an Irish company that bought the airbuses for Fiji Airways.

Waqavuka doesn't sound Irish, but more Fijian. How come an Irish company got a Fijian name? Well, it it quite possible that some Fijians may have registered the company in Ireland.

FNPF money can directly buy the smaller planes from France, but it took a detour to Ireland then to France in order for some Waqavuka directors to make some money.

We have had enough of all these illegal deals.

    Time to get out.

What else is the regime going to do -- declare their multiple salaries, offshore accounts, burgeoning riches, etc.? No way. Make no pretense of submitting anything, just hold everyone else to account, hope the issue dies, and just do nothing? Maybe.

But your scenario makes more sense, and it's more in line with the modus operandi of this regime. That M.O. is to try to put a patina of legality on everything, no matter how faint, so that it has some sort of answer for its critics, no matter how absurd.

If we do not act smartly now, they will win the election by stealth. After that victory, its will be a very perilous time for Fiji. Forget about all the bad things they have done. "The total amount contributed to the Fiji economy from 2010 to 2013 from these yachts stood at $122,996,416.

Meanwhile, one of the world’s most expansive super yachts is currently in the country.

The super yacht “A” which is valued at around $323 million was spotted close to the Amunuca Island Resort & Spa."

Only a country in dire financial decline will keep citizens misinformed on the real state of affairs by posting such articles.
What about the declining health service, roads, increasing poverty, increasing debt, increasing criminality..isn't this the result of a country nearing financial collapse? Give me a break!
