Former government minister on SODELPA list

As promised, the full list of SODELPA candidates for the September elections.

Former Minister of Housing, Environment, Local Government and Urban Development, Colonel Samuela Saumatua, was one of those named on Saturday.

Saumatua dumped Frank Bainimarama's illegal government last year amid speculation he was disenchanted with the way the military dictatorship was running the country - and its people - into the ground.

He has remained tightlipped about why he resigned from the well-paid portfolio but has over the weekend told Fiji Live "It got to a stage where I thought it was enough so I left."

When first interviewed on his resignation, saumatua quoted his health was the reason. This guy will liumuri any body for his own benefit. I know him from our army days.

THE BIG CON said...

There are NO "provincial", "urban" or "national" candidates and SODELPA knows it. There is one national constituency and every voter gets one vote. That means that any candidate has to appeal to Fijians wherever they live. This is a big con not on voters but their own candidates. They are giving them false hope by suggesting that their voter appeal can be narrowed down to a province or a city or town. It can't. Watch SODELPA unravel when these guys realise the truth. Hardly any of them are going to make it. On the current polling, SODELPA is only getting 8 per cent of the vote. That means 8 per cent of the seats when they are allocated. That means JUST 4 SEATS if SODELPA's position doesn't improve between now and polling day. Who is going to get those seats? Ro Teimumu Kepa and the other chiefs. None of these other candidates. They are being expected to work like dogs from now until September 17th just to get the Queen Bitch across the line. When they start realising that, watch the whole thing fall apart.

Salamatua was prepared to turn a blind eye to corruption. That is why he is no longer in Government. His two mates on Nadi Council were being investigated by FICAC. They refused to cooperate. Salamatua wouldn't force them to do so and Khaiyum stepped in. That's what happened and now we know that there was another agenda all along. Salamatua is part of the SDL/SODELPA and probably always was. Everything he says is lies, including that he wasn't planning a political career. Qori. Now he is. With such a forked tongue he would be an excellent politician. Except that he has no chance of being elected.

Good people like Jale Baba the former SDL Secretary ares not in as he is dead fly in the ointment, we cannot trust.

Good there are candidates from other the major communities. Please all should work from same notes on FFP while talking with the people and your notes should list all the crimes, unaccountable actions, salaries, briberies, murders, crooked asset purchases, nepotism, long term impacts on people of loans to fund briberies of voters. lies, erosion of Taukei land securities etc.

To Big Con
Its up to SODELPA what they call their candidates to identify their target focus while campaigning....each Provincial candidates will focus on their Provinces where they come from, better known and will get most support from...of course voters from other parts of Fiji can vote for them...works well with Taukeis who have loyalties to their Provinces no matter where they live, even living overseas.....good tactics for maximising vote from the centre of support. Candidates will then focus service on their Province and people will feel more at home in approaching their own people when their candidates win into Parliament

Is what Big Con says true? Does the number of seats a party gets depends on its overall vote? Shit, that means if the polls are right, Fiji First gets 33 plus seats out of 50 ( half of 66 per cent if you take the lowest polling in the Fiji Time ) and even more if the Fiji Sun poll is correct. SODELPA gets 4 seats if their present polling stays the same. How are they going to improve from that in the next few weeks? Isn't it all over?

Reap what you sow said...

by the grace of God bainimarama escaped the murderous traitors in the army camp. that's what all smart military people do; retreat and strike back with force. Dumb CRW gave plenty of warning which shows how poorly trained they were.

Bainaimarama is not the coward. The coward is the CRW who shot a brother soldier in his sleep. that is vile, evil, cowardice of the highest order. Unheard of in any other military in the world.

Unfijian to shoot your own kind in his sleep. That's why regimental forces were so angry and showed no mercy. This is not to say they did the right thing. there should be no place for torture in Fiji.

But in effect loyal soldiers defending camp from a vile, evil enemy force who gave up any claim of being fijian when they shot a comrade in his sleep. CRW defiled fiji military and was rightly disbanded.

CRW were a bunch of viavialevu. We fijians hate viavialevu. They though they were in rambo movie. Big difference between movie world and real world.

the message for CRW is you started this murderous rampage. you reap what you sow.

Anonymous said...

"Reap what you sow" Did you even read what you posted or did your brains and arse change places? By the way God had nothing to do with anything. He very simply gives choices for man to chose from, free will. Bainimarama chose to run away instead of standing by his soldiers. The CRW were in fact under his command and he their Leader. End of story tamana, as history has recorded.

I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR FIJI FIRST BECAUSE I CARE ABOUT MY BELOVED FIJI!

Fiji has been vandalised and terrorised by gold seekers and fly by nighters in the FF and the very ones who have helped themselves to the government treasury and shut out the entire public from all its many many cunning "under the table" dealings and have become very rich;..all through the illegal take over of a democratic government!

I dont care who leads Fiji next! As long as it is not these current bunch of thieves who have locked away the Auditor General for the last 8 years!

Fellow Fijians, PLEASE, think long and hard! Together we can save Fiji by ridding bad evil leadership that we have been under for 8 long years!

JUST VOTE SOMEONE ELSE, BUT NOT FIJI FIRST!

LET US SAVE FIJI TOGETHER!

Bainimarama, called on Fijians, as the country prepares to go to the polls, under fraudulent and corrupt conditions, to judge for themselves the work his government has done in the last eight years.
Yes, what has Bainimarama improved under his dictatorship? Judge for yourself, the dictator says, how much life has improved, judge for yourself the true and genuinely inclusive intentions, he has for the betterment of all Fijians. But here is his track record:
Fiji is experiencing its worst and highest ever records of:
unemployment
poverty
cost of living
crime
nepotism
corruption
brutality
national debt – now every man, woman and child owes over 7,500 each in foreign debt.
no freedom of speech
total tailban type of rule
etc.
In addition:
There is no rule of law and investment is at its lowest levels ever since independence. Why is this, its because no one trusts Bainimarama and Khaiyum to follow the rule of law and protect their investments.

ABUSE OF GOVERNMENT MONEY
1- The Dictator is using Government money to bribe voters with gym equipment, brush cutters and sewing machine
2- Ministry of Information putting all their resources behind promoting Frank Bainimarama and Aiyaz Sayed Kahiyum; leader and General secretary respectively of the Fiji First Party.
3- Government employees have been collecting signatures for Fiji First party.
4- Prime Minister’s salary remains a secret
5- No Auditor General Reports published
6- Fiji scored ZERO in an international survey on budget transparency. There is no way the people can know how their money was spent by the Dictator.

All leaders are from God,its Biblical so its the Gospel Truth. That is why God chose Moses,David,Solomon to lead. Now He has chosen Josaia Bainimarama to lead Fiji. In 2nd Kings Chapter 22 Verse 1 it reads that ....the Lord chose Josaia who was 8 years old to lead Israel.Josaia was still a child when annointed by God. Question: Who was ruling? The Queen Jezebel she was associated with a lot of sinning and was Couped and killed along with her associates. THIS BIBLICAL VERSE IS A PROPHECY TO PM BAI AND TO THE PEOPLE OF FIJI,HE HAS LED THE NATION FOR 8YEARS [remember Josaia was 8yrs old when crowned as King], THE LORD WILL CHOOSE AND ANNOINT HIM AS THE NEXT PM.It is prophesied and will come to pass. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

The military has arguably been a scourge to Fiji yet this numbnuts thinks its a good idea for Fiji to have ita own air force....sigh

BRAZIL PROPOSES ASSISTANCE TO FIJI IN AIR FORCE OPERATION

6/14/2014
The Government of Brazil is willing to assist Fiji in setting up its air force wing with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The Brazilian Air force Commander, Air Marshall Juniti Saito made this known to the Fijian President His Excellency Ratu Epeli Nailatikau at a recent meeting in Brasilia.

Air Marshall Saito said Brazil had indicated to the Fijian embassy earlier this year and was happy to further discuss the issues should the RFMF show interest.

“It is very hard especially in terms of surveillance and monitoring of Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zone and because no Pacific island nation has an air force and Brazil is ready to assist in setting up an air force wing for the RFMF,” he said.

“We can have trainings together and also we could supply equipment for the setting up of the air force should Fiji wish to start.”

The Fijian Head of State welcomed the proposal and added that Fiji was grateful to have friends such as Brazil who were willing to assist not only Fiji but other small Pacific island nations that have limited resources.

The 2014 elections will not be free and fair and we are seeing that now with the latest political parties decree removing political parties and the choice of citizens to elect representatives. Meanwhile, the people are too afraid to do any thing about this rigged election and many are unable to do anything. But their are others who are currently unwilling to take a stand against the illegal decrees and a government not mandated by the people, but clearly planning to continue its rule at all costs, because they fear they will be standing alone in their fight for freedom against a brutal thug with the guns. However, with the right support those who able to take a stand will be able to do so on behalf of the oppressed peoples of Fiji.

First of all I would like to thank all the parties that will be contesting the election and good luck to all its candidates. I would like to share a real life experince whilst on the Vatuwaqa bus going to watch my son play rugby at the marcellin ground on Saturday unfortunately it got cancelled because of bad weather when I got there. But when I was on bus I was sitting beside a male say in his early twenties say around 25..26.He was reading the saturday 's Fiji Times and in that was a lift out of the Fiji First Party Advert. He took it out and was reading through it . I thought to myself hmmm.. this guy must really be supportive of the Fiji First as he was like taking his time reading it and his age group would be grateful for the work of Bai and Khai's Govt as some of the poll's I read indicate. So I turn the other way trying to show my disgust and I was thinking of trying to convince him of not voting for Rear Ad Mi Bai.
After a while I heard thinking that he had finished reading the news paper and was folding it up but to my suprise as I turned to see him he had the crumpled lift out of the fiji first party in his hand and it was in a paperball shape and was about to toss it out the bus window, he then realized that I was observing him to his shock he slowly moved his hand away from the window undid the crumpled paper than refolded it in a neat manner, at that moment I began to rèalize that he was doing this out of fear that I might report him to the miltary as so many good citizens of Fiji had experinced with Bai,.He took the neatly folded lift out and placed it beside his thighs than he got off across from the apartment to the road that leads to the former telecom training centre in suva point. He left the lift out on the seat. I told this true story for Bai and Khai to ponder over. Àre people still fearful of your regime? The name Baininimarama what does it personifies in the minds of all Fijian? Can this Man be trusted after being at the helm of the Fiji Military and all the acts his done right from deposing the SDL led government in 2006.Do you still fear him? Are you going to vote him in? This is my story God Bless Fiji...

Well I'm sure Virisila sang for her supper but that doesn't mean anyone is any wiser. About as close to ordinary people in Fiji as they are to the moon.

You are 100% right there Mahen Choudary:

Bainimarama is the biggest beneficiary of the coup: Labour

Fiji First leader Voreqe Bainimarama and his secretary general Aiyaz Khaiyum are themselves the most “discredited” politicians in Fiji today.

They need to acknowledge this and stop hurling abuse at politicians who had won the mandate of the people of Fiji through democratically held elections, Labour said in response to allegations by the Fiji First Leader at his party’s launch that “discredited old politicians were lying to the people”.

Bainimarama’s worn out line of campaign is to accuse politicians of lying when, in fact, his own record shows a litany of lies since the Army takeover of 2006. Chief among these are his promises to the people of Fiji to protect the 1997 constitution, to hold elections within two years, to clean out corruption and an assurance that no one in the Army will benefit from the 2006 coup.

None of these promises was kept. He has come out as the biggest beneficiary of the coup – even taking a promotion in the Navy post-retirement, possibly, to boost his pension.

Is the Fiji First Party claiming that they had built the Moanasavu dam, created the FNPF or formed the NLTB now TLTB or ATH did they do all that. Even built the roads in Fiji and irrigated water for rice and piped all drinking water or setup Vatukoula and the Mahogany reserves. Tell mahenwa he needs to understand that he can't run FLP autocratically and arbitrarily before you lecture others.

yeah Virisila boasting of marrying a "gujerati Muslim" on ABC last night. I guess the gujerati bit added to make her man seem like a high class Muslim. Highly paid NGO all right, hogging all the overseas trips for the per diems. I cringed everytime she spoke last night, hoping she would not embarass fiji and her relatives. Viri, save your talks for a Fiji audience where you can BS your way around. the ABC panel is really out of your depth. Lucky the moderator gave you easy questions that you could understand. How about standing for elections in Fiji and make some real difference to the lives of women in Fiji?

Shut your trap and go do something useful with your useless life for once and make your parents proud.

I really feel sorry for you in the way you have criticised that lady speaking in the ABC TV. Please have some love in your heart, go home and tell your family that you love them and then you try to love other people even your enemies. Life is so short to keep on hating each other. Go to church or temple or mosque and pray for your heart to be purified only then will GOD give you peace in your heart and you can love others including yourself. At the moment you are a pathetic hater and just a loser.

Just Situational Logic said...

"Speight's" coup will only be complete if Bainimarama wins, because he was the coup mastermind, not Speight. Speight was just a front man and fall guy. Bainimarama was the one who hatched the coup plot in order to make himself PM.

In much the same way, Khaiyum is now a front man, but soon he will be a fall guy. If Bainimarama decides Khaiyum is less an asset than a liability, then out he will go. And at that point, he'd better be ready to run far and fast.

Bainimarama knows the Fiji Sun and Tebbutt polls are lies. He's been using internal polling for years. He knows he's not that popular. He understands that people here mistrust polls because we know that the polls are being conducted only by regime and pro-regime entities. So, Bainimarama knows he would lose a free and fair election.

That's why he postponed the election for years. He saw some rise in his popularity numbers, but not enough to convince him he would win handily. So he put Khaiyum in charge of organising an election he would be sure to "win", by hook or by crook.

And Khaiyum has done that. If he hadn't, Bainimarama would have simply postponed the elections again.

The challenge for the regime now will be to steal the election in such a way that members of the international community anxious to mend relations with Suva (e.g., Canberra and Wellington) suspend their judgment enough to pronounce this phony election as "fairly credible" and hope that other governments (e.g., Washington and Brussels) will be foolish enough to follow them down the rabbit hole.

The Heckler said...

JSL, Canberra and Wellington are much too principled ever to pronounce this phony election as "fairly credible".

They will pronounce it "relatively credible" instead.

To my muslim brother who made some comments earlier ... And other muslim haters here .. Please know that Muslims are targeted all over the world , post 911 ... That's not the right approach ... Just remember ... We are natural born fighters ... There isn't a single army born to defeat us !!!! Praise be to Allah , the almighty . I say this , fiji belongs to the Fijians ... As a muslim I fully and wholeheartedly support that . God willing , one day , I will ensure that Fijian rights are protected . I genuinely feel though that the right people ... From all backgrounds can get fiji back to the right path . Fijians , and Indians can live in harmony , but presently people just divide and rule ... A few bad men , can never divide our beautiful fiji . Don't hate a religion ... Nor it's people ... Politics in fiji is down and dirty like anywhere else ... God bless fiji and the Fijians !!!

Religion of peace said...

@11.39pm, you are right...you muslims are natural born fighters. so much so you have not stopped fighting since the founding of your religion. You fight against every other religion - Hindu, christian, Judaism, Buddhism.

if that is nit enough, you even fight against your religion? Muslims create trouble in every country they are present in.

yes, you are definitely natural born fighters. you muslims even fight among yourselves.

Bombing, beheading ad warring seems to be a muslim fetish. the more you people kill in the name of allah, the happier you are.

Bro, we don't hate you muslims as much as you fellow muslims hate you - look at iraq, syria, etc. muslims slaughtering muslims in an orgy of ongoing violence.

Is this what is meant by religion of peace?

Fiji's Military Forces Commander Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga says the military will not allow any elected government to rewrite the 2013 Constitution. The constitution, Fiji’s fourth such document in 34 years – grants immunity from prosecution to everyone involved in the December 2006 coup. In an interview with The Age, Tikoitoga is also said to have confirmed reports of beatings after the events of 2006, saying this was done to ward off civil disorder. “We will not have another coup, as such – that’s quite definite. However, the army would not tolerate an elected government rewriting the new constitution,” he said. On the beatings, he said: “I wouldn’t deny that these things happened. “But a lot of these people were actually trying to instigate violence by creating anti-government movements or militant groups; they were talking on the radio and so on and if you let them continue to have a voice, you create a potentially dangerous environment. So it was the lesser of two devils.” Meanwhile, parties like Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and the National Federation Party (NFP) had said that if they are elected into government they would review the 2013 Constitution. One Eye

You are so true that one eyed has to go. A $2.32 an hour as a minimum wage is an insult to Fiji Labor market. Mahendra Reddy as well as Bhiman Prasad are insult as economists. The biggest opportunists and also insult to human race.

Anonymous said...

If A$2.32 an hour is an insult, then why not raise it to A$20.32/hr? After all, it's somebody else's money. And somebody else's job that will be lost.

Kona Kia said...

Less than 25,000 voters youre gone....

Anonymous said...

Raising the minimum wage is a cheap election tactic that gets you elected, but it's expensive to consumers who then have to pay higher prices for everything, and especially costly to those who are now paid minimum wages but who will lose their jobs if the government mandates a wage hike.

How can one be sure that a Party or candidate will deliver what they promise on during their campaigns. We have witnessed the contrary in the past, many candidates and Parties do not even have time for their constituencies, imagine how even more difficult this time, to have a candidate visit all of Vitilevu, how costly it would be for the government. I guess we are familiar with some of the names that have been selected by the Political Parties to be candidates, and we also know their background..so thats great, but what of the new names, I wish there was alot more new names as opposed to the old politicians,BTW some of the older politicians habits and gutter politics are already rubbing on to the new ones...thats another big problem...oilei....so hard to find the perfect candidate or Party....ITS SO POLITICAL!!!! :)

Anonymous said...

The CCF should publish a voters pamphlet comparing candidates' stands on central issues. It should also organise a public debate between the candidates. If it does not, it will only be because both the CCF and the regime are too frightened by the prospect.

Anonymous said...

One cannot be sure that a party or candidate will deliver what they promise during their campaigns, but informed voters should be ready to punsh those who renege on their promses in the next elections. None of them is ever to be trusted -- all the more so if they're already notorious as liars, thieves, torturers, muderers and traitors.
