SODELPA leader clear winner in C4.5 poll

Ro Teimumu Kepa: SODELPA leader streaks ahead.
Rewa Chief, Ro Teimumu Kepa, won hands down in our poll "Who is your preferred Prime Minister?"

1,377 people took part in the poll with 53.63% voting Kepa as their preferred leader - Biman Prasad was next favorite at 17.59% per cent, Frank Bainimarama third with 17.22 %, Mahendra Chaudhry with 8.21% and Felix Anthony 3.34%.

Kepa took the lead from the start with Prasad and Bainimarama neck and neck for most of the poll.

Chaudhry had a late gain but didn't fire, same with Anthony.

Most of Kepa's support came from Suva with votes from the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, the United States including Hawaii. There was one vote from Mongolia.

Bainimarama's votes came from Fiji with a sprinkling from the United States, Australia, Dubai, Samoa and Colombo, Sri Lanka.

There was also an unusual number of votes for Bainimarama from the organisation Clarendon House with the ISP address Digicel Pacific or I-Pac Communications. Clarendon House also voted for Kepa but Bainimarama had the majority.

A battle of sorts took place at both Fiji Post and Telecom with votes also for both for Kepa and Bainimarama.

Most of Chaudhry's votes came from Australia and New Zealand and Prasad's from Suva, Australia, New Zealand and California with one vote from Canada.

The survey disqualified votes for all four candidates:  Bainimarama led the disqualification followed by Chaudhry, Kepa then Prasad and Anthony.

The final votes are as follows:
  • Ro Teiumu Kepa 724
  • Biman Prasad 236
  • Frank Bainimarama 215
  • Mahendra Chaudhry 101
  • Felix Anthony 46

  1. SORRY TO BE OFF-TOPIC
but I write this for this young man Tamanirarama Jone.

MY SUGGESTION TO YOU JONE IS TO SUE THE DEPARTMENT THAT WITHDREW YOUR SCHOLARSHIP FOR :
""WRONGFUL TERMINATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP or CONTRACT""

    Also sue Mr Dixon Seeto.

This will accomplish a lot for you.

I can tell you right now that if you do this you will get your scholarship back very quickly.
If not from the Ministry then from some other source.

THIS IS THE ONLY FAVOUR I ASK:
When you sue them please let the media know and please let C4.5 know.

In this way the overseas government can see what this arsehole Bainimagaitinana is actually doing to Fijian Education.

LET THE MEDIA KNOW WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO YOU MY BROTHER.
MAY GOD GIVE YOU GREAT VICTORY.

Tamanirarama Jone and Roshika Deo. Picture: JOVESA NAISUA

TAMANIRARAMA Jone hopes his iTaukei Affairs Board scholarship will be reinstated so he can sit for his final exams for semester one this month.

The 21-year-old second year Bachelor of Commerce student of the University of the South Pacific had his scholarship terminated for what he says is his involvement in a political activity.

He said he was only exercising his political right when he joined Roshiko Deo's political activity.

"I don't see any violation or any wrong doing of my involvement in Roshika Deo's 'Be the Change Campaign' as I was clearly just exercising my political right," Mr Jone said.

"All I ask at this moment is for the re-instating of my scholarship."

He said he decided to reveal his identity because he had just finished sitting for a test for one of his compulsory units.

"I have just finished a test paper and I wanted to concentrate on that.

"I feared that if I had revealed my identity up-front I would be victimised.

"I have no idea whether I will be able to sit for my finals in June since my termination letter mentioned that I had been terminated as from semester one."

Mr Jone, who is from Ra, said he was frustrated with the development, adding it had affected his studies greatly.

"This termination has affected my studies and my concentration at the moment. However with all the support I am getting, I am trying to lift my head up high and I am just trying to take each day as it comes."

TSLB chairman Dixon Seeto said once a scholarship was handed out, the board and the student signed a confidentiality agreement that prevented each party from discussing the issue with other people.

However, he added the board would administer all rules and requirements that were outlined by a contract signed by each party.

The board chairman said if one of the parties was found to be in breach of the contract then action would be taken.

  2. Thanks for the survey and the analysis.
This regime continues to victimise those who are not on their side, with fear tactic leadership, which is an outdated strategy.
Scholarship getters deserve their places, since they met the criteria. Termination is usually for academic and institution's disciplne problems not political freedom, come on Seeto!, this is the problem with people like Seeto and Iqbal Jannif who knew nothing about tertiary education institutions and are roped in on their political alignment.
Poor Jone, a victim of an illegal system of misplaced criteria.
The whole regime needs a clean up and a wipe out!

  4. Useless informationJune 2, 2014 at 4:05 AM

Hahaha, how ridiculous and completely meaningless. Any poll that allows you to vote twice or even five time, as in the case of anon at 3.45, is a complete waste of time. And because Coup 4.5 is a SDL/SODELPA cyber rag, it's hardly surprising that Ro Teimumu got up. You should be really worried about Bainimarama's showing because few people who support him even visit 4.5. It's just the usual regime trolls and the odd person checking out the opposition. For him to come to come in so high in Ro Teimumu's private beauty contest should have her grasping at her knickers. Hahaha.

  5. If Bainimarama "led the disqualifications", that means that he scored much higher but those votes weren't counted. What a joke! Can't wait to see the egg on all your faces come September 17. Go on. Hit the keyboard. You know you want to. Your blood is now boiling. Pound out those capital letters and exclamation marks!!!!!!!The whole damn lot of you are losers but the biggest is your ageing, freeloading Queen from Lomanikoro. Heading for a humiliating defeat which will weaken her power and those of the degenerate fellow chiefs even further. Down with Teimumu's trolls at Coup 4.5. Go Bainimarama and Fiji First!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Talk about giving the game away. You admit that you disqualified more votes for Bainimarama and Chaudhry than anyone else but don't say how many. That means you have tampered with the result and the whole thing is meaningless. Talk about treating the Fijian people like idiots.

One thing is certain from this poll. Felix is fucked. The fat cat should have stayed in his cushy union job. No chance now of being top dog or even making it into parliament. Just deserts for his years of treachery against ordinary workers and lining his own pockets at our expense. BTW has anyone noticed the amazing resemblance between Felix and the brutal Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin? Wonder if they are related.

  11. Restarting your computer doesn't allow you to cast a new vote, because ot doesn't change your IP. So, we know that Anon @ 3:45 AM is a liar -- probably one of Bainimarama's California voters, like Dharam Lingam.

The comment just 20 minutes later, in the middle of tbe night, can safely be dismissed as the same troll now trying to make his lame point on the basis of the disinformation (lie) he planted moments before. In fact, we see the whole string of comments coming from what appears to be the same writer, all within minutes of each other in what is, for here in Fiji, the dead of night.

Yeah, right. You trolls just happen to be checking on the opposition at 4:05 AM. Clearly, you're the ones grasping at knickers. LOL.

  13. Now its a U turn for indian voters it was Labour Party in the last three election and i suspect in this September National Federation Party will accommodate majority.
The participation of Fiji Labour Party with this Interim Regime throws millions of doubts to Labour supporters and pushed them to confusion. Now the picture is clear or should i say "the different is clear".
The Labour leader hold the $2 million close to his chest and turn his back to the poor supporters.
Felix make use of the situation and help this Regime destroyed labour laws and he himself benefited by being member of various boards and committees and even try to hook out millions while in FNPF.
The voters are still there and watching when these two mongoose trying to win back their loyalty.
Fiji Labour Party you've done you are finished.
The alternative for your supporters to move over to National Federation Party.

  16. Nirmal Singh has been the most prized acquisition for sodlepa. He has really boosted its profile and lot of indians are thinking twice about sodelpa being a racist party. With Nirmal Singh being there the indians are now having more trust in Sodepa. PDP cuts its head off by getting rid of Nirmal. He was the face of the party. Felix will regret all conniving against Nirmal with Aman. I wish sodelpa will reciprocate with goodwill for us indians in extending our hands of friendship through Nirmal.

SO much million they have received but they can not pay the salary of the new recruited staff who today left for Vanua levu to recruit more people to become election day staff. meal money is not enough and it is what they get only for this 4 weeks of working. No transport arrange stranded at some places and today as they leave they have not received their meal money until Tuesday Morning when the bank opens. They have no money to give back home all they have is meal money which is not enough. WHERE IS THE MILLION DOLLARS DONATION FROM OUTSIDE COUNTRY?

  18. I've been a major critic of Nirmal Singh, especially for the way he tried so opportunistically to ingratiate himself with the regime, but the anonymous comment @ 9:59 AM is quite valid. His move to SODELPA was an astute one that should be beneficial to both. I hope SODELPA continues to broaden its appeal by actively reaching out to all communities who want the best for Fiji.

  23. The poll survey reported above may not be strictly scientific as sample cannot be truly representative due to reliance on accessibility to computer or other technology, but given that, there is a lot of reason to believe the results as reflecting the general mood of the people.

Similarly the Fiji Times and Sun also have problems of representativeness of opinions as the sample sources are restricted by reluctance of the public to honestly say in public their opinion against the illegal Govt....because of fear of punishment for anti Govt expressions...a terrible legacy of this vindictive, torturous and illegal Govt. Example is the withdrawal of scholarship from a USP student who participated with a non-Fiji First Party.

On balance I would give more credice to the poll result by cOUP4.5.

    ReplyDelete
  24. How about a debate between Bainimarama and Ro Teimumu? We'll see which of the two is thick then!

  25. In democratic countries, political activism is encouraged and redounds to the credit of scholarship applicants. Only in a tinhorn dictatorship would the scholarship be stripped from a recipoent merely for exercising his civil right to free political expression.

If his support in Nadroga has anything to go by then i think SODLPA will make a clean sweep. Are political parties allowed to form constituencies on their own? I cannot come to terms that Fijians can so overwhelming support an Indian Candidate. Times have changed God bless Fiji.

Ms Deo, for the past six months, said she had battled the belittling, dangerous threats until Sunday, when it all became too much and was forced to file an official police complaint.

In an interview, the vocal activist and independent candidate said since declaring her interest to contest the general election last year, she was subjected to sexual, physical and psychological threats to her life.

Prof Chandra listens to concerns of students
    Salaseini Moceiwai.

    Tuesday, June 03, 2014.

STUDENT representatives of the Labasa USP campus had the opportunity to raise their concerns to the university vice-chancellor Professor Rajesh Chandra at a forum yesterday morning.

Among their concerns were the unavailability of Wifi services and the lack of space at the campus.

In raising the issues, campus student association president Kaushik Chand said the availability of such services would benefit the students.

"Sometimes, the labs are fully-occupied and students don't have anywhere else to do their research," he said.

"A lot of them have their own laptops and if Wifi is available, they can just access the internet from anywhere within the campus premises.

"The students are looking forward to the connection of the Wifi because this allows them easy access to the internet from their laptops.

"We are requesting the campus consider the connection of Wifi."

Mr Chand said there was also not enough space available at the campus to cater for the students.

In response, Prof Chandra said they would have the connection up and running as soon as possible.

He said the USP aimed to provide the best and quality education to its students and would do their best to make this happen.

Prof Chandra also met the campus staff and was updated on the progress of the university's operation in the North.

  141. THE MAN SYSTEMATICALLY DESTROYING USPJune 4, 2014 at 11:23 AM

@June 3, 2014 Well done Professor Rajesh Chandra, are you crazy?

Professor Rajesh Chandra is no saviour. He is the one who responsible for unavailability of Wifi services and the lack of space at Labasa campus in two major ways.

First, throughout his vice-chancellorship, USP has been under captialised because he lacked the courage, know-how and foresight to plan and budget for the future, and ask regional government's to properly fund the programs.

Rajesh Chandra actually asked regional governments to reduce their annual allocation! He actually downgraded the status of of tertiary education in the national budget! No vice-chancellor with a vision would have done something like that.

Second, Rajesh Chandra has lowered entry standards and increased enrolment. What he has created is a perfect storm of incessantly increasing demand on rapidly diminishing resources.

Teachings standards have deteriorated because of the extra load. One just has to look at the calibre of graduates to see this.

Throughout Rajesh Chandra's term there has been a shortage of facilities and increase of students. Laucala Campus is a disgrace - take it from me, I work there everyday.

Rajesh Chandra cleverly masks the problems by boasting about increases in student numbers, making big promises, and making a big deal of agreements signed with other institutions.

It's all puffery and propaganda - the real problems are not being tackled. They have deteriorated under this useless, coup-supporting VC. The period under Rajesh Chandra is one of the worst in USP's history. He has systematically eroded the solid foundations of USP because he does not what he is doing. He has put USP back by at least 20 years. To save USP, he needs to be kicked out now.

  143. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum states that ownership of iTaukei land rights is not a problem as it is enshrined in the Bill of Rights.

Section 28 (Bill of Rights) is vague on processes on native land. Further he should note that native land can also be alienated under long -term leases.

In any case, what are the effects of placing native land protection under the Bill of Rights? What is the impact on the Native Lands Act, the Native Lands Trust Act and the NLC? What is the effect of the Land Bank Decree? Does it have adequate measures to safeguard and protect native landowner interests and later generations?

I also recall a decree issued by Mr Sayed-Khaiyum blocking all Deed of Cession claims.

What is the effect of this on legitimate landowner claims?

For example, the original Suva people moved to their current location to make way for public state use of their lands.

Today, these lands are being used for real estate purposes at market rates deviating from the original purpose. Who will correct this on-going injustice?

These questions need to be asked and addressed.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum seems to ignore the fact that section 185 of the 1997 Constitution no longer exists. Why was it removed? That section specifies that any changes to “entrenched legislation” thahis – Native Lands Act, Native Lands Trust Act, Fijians Affairs Act etc – must be approved by 9 of the 14 GCC (Bose Levu Vakaturaga) members of the Senate. The GCC members are nominated from the provinces and represent the native landowners of Fiji.

By removing Section 185, Mr Sayed-Khaiyum’s government has effectively rendered we, the native landowners, powerless over our own land.

This power, under the 2013 Constitution, now rests with the politicians in Parliament.

All these changes were made without the consent of we, the native landowners, and as such are totally unacceptable.

Worse, the changes were made by people we do not know or recognise. They were not made by the leaders we elected, nor were they made by our chiefs.

I urge all native landowners to read the changes carefully yourselves, analyse, discuss, share the knowledge and make a stand.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum is not a native landowner, just another politician conducting just another political campaign.
