Intel sources confirm picture of captured Fiji soldiers

Fiji peacekeepers appear unharmed but it's not known where they are.

Inside sources have verified the picture reported to be that of the captured Fiji soldiers and reportedly tweeted this morning by the rebels who are holding them, is genuine.

Al Nusra, which is linked to Al Qaeda, today also tweeted the ID cards of the 45 Fiji peacekeepers.

The new information comes as the U.N.confirms it doesn't know where the captured Fiji peacekeepers are.

Thirty two Filipino soldiers have, however, been rescued. Other personnel remain trapped.

Media reports, including one from Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland, say there have been no news on the fate of the Fiji contingent.

"Up until now the UN have been relying on negotiations to tray and get the Fijians out, but as it seems, the troops from the Phillipines were released as a result of military action."

Frank Bainimarama continues to be silent on the capture but the Ministry of Information today posted a video of RFMF commander, Mosese Tikoitoga, admitting they have no idea where the men but believe they are unharmed.

Intel sources say the RFMF won't admit it but the big fear is  Al Nusra will use the Fiji troops as human shields.

So there's 45 soldiers rather than the bullshit from the QEB, just goes to show that they don't have a clue about how many of their own is missing. What a bunch of fat losers. The commander says 43, then 44 and now the evidence of ID cards show 45...ulukaus can't even count at QEB or Foreign Affairs

Philippine Rangers have fought their way out. They are on the Israeli side relaxing. All their guys are accounted for.

They held out for 72 hours whilst the Israeli's, the UN and the Syrians organised backup.

Either was its not good news for our Fijian boys. By attacking the Filipino's al Nusra have shown they are prepared to kill UN personnel. The Fijians are now at their mercy.

Those pictures tell the story of the RFMF. At least 75% of the soldiers in that Proof of Life photo are above 45 years of age and are in no condition to fight.

They wouldn't have lasted half a day in combat.

The Filipinos had to fight for 72 hours. There are photo's of their boys on the web relaxing over the Israeli lines.

They are well conditioned. Looks like they could have gone on fighting for seven days had they needed to.

The full statement from Al Nusra Front is at http://justpaste.it/gw0m
This is the automatically translated version (Google Translate can only do a machines job, so in some places we can barely understand the grammar, but we can definitely make out the meaning):
https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fjustpaste.it%2Fgw0m&edit-text=

Interesting bits:
1. They have 45 soldiers
2. Motive: They are angry that the west (and the UN) continues to ignore the plight of ordinary muslims in Syria. Assad used chemical weapons, used barrel bombs, and has murdered tens of thousands of people, yet the UN has not intervened. So they are upset about that. There is also mention of the historical anger against the UN because this engagement force only exists to keep the Israeli's safe on one side of the border, while completely ignoring the atrocities committed on the other side.
3. Status of the hostages: "We emphasize that the detainees are in a safe place, and in a healthy condition, and we provide them with what they need from food and treatment. Islam urges us to take care of prisoners."

Let's continue to pray for their safe return.

My prayers and thoughts are with our soldiers in Syria. I hope that they will be released very soon.
However I can’t help thinking that things do happen for a reason. I’m of a firm belief that we can turn this crisis into an opportunity; a favorable time when we are in a position to make decisions that will impact our lives in a positive way. Questions came to mind as I tried to take stock of what has happened.
I read in the Fiji dailies last week comments made by the Commander Tikoitoga to the soldiers returning from Golan Heights (below) and compared that to Teleni’s comments on 04/11/06.

Army is 'the last bastion of law'
Saturday, November 04, 2006
THE army is the country's last bastion of law and order and not the Fiji Police Force, acting army commander Captain Esala Teleni said yesterday. Captain Teleni was speaking to more than one thousand territorial, regular and reserved forces called in for a two-week camp at the Queen Elizabeth barracks in Nabua."I want to remind you that our roles and responsibilities towards our beloved Fiji and that under the constitution and under the law of Fiji we are the last bastion of law and order," Captain Teleni said."I want to make it clear RFMF under the constitution and under cap 81 law of Fiji that we're the last bastion of law and order and not the police."

Guardians of the State
Siteri Sauvakacolo
Thursday, August 28, 2014
The soldiers who were part of the first batch to the Golan Heights were officially welcomed back by RFMF Commander Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua yesterday. THE Republic of Fiji Military Forces should always be ready to accept its role as the custodian of any government that comes into power after the election therefore being apolitical. RFMF Commander Brigadier General Mosese Tikoitoga made the statement as Fiji looks forward to September 17.
Q1. Isn’t the Police Force supposed to be the custodian of the state and the Military the last bastion of law and order for the state?
Q2. If the military should remain apolitical, then why was Tikoitoga advising the political parties last week (Fiji Sun) as to what they should or shouldn’t say in their campaign?
"We can only do that if we remain neutral in all preparations prior to the election, during the election and accept the result of the election and subject ourselves to the government that comes after the election."
Brig-Gen Tikoitoga told his soldiers to familiarize themselves with the Constitution to understand RFMF's role.

Q3. Which constitution 1997 or 2013?
"I say this with a lot of pride because when I went to New York the accolades for that rapid deployment and the fact that we saved the UN presence in Syria," Brigadier General Tikoitoga said. “If we had failed to do what we did, if the government did not allow troops to go at that time, we could have threatened the presence of the UN in the Golan and Syrian Heights. “And the fact that we were able to mobilise and train ourselves within the 3-4 weeks where we were deployed in the month of June is much appreciated by the UN."

Q4. Were the soldiers trained and prepared well within the 3-4 weeks and the UN was happy with this? OMG! Some heads should roll.

My point is; its reflection time for Tikoitoga on the role of the Military in Fiji and his role as the commanding officer of our soldiers. As a Christian and a shepherd, he needs to be truthful and lead his sheep on the right path where they respect God’s delegated authorities in their lives. (Vanua, Lotu and State).

I have been saying all along that this country was initially given to God by our elders and anointed men of God.

This is a wake up call to Mo Tikoitoga himself and his senior military officers.

The anti Christ through the guise of a secular state pushed by Khaihum is now manifesting its ugly head.

We feel sorry for our dads, uncles, grad dads and cousins but we have to reap what ever we have sown.

The worst thing is that Allah and other stupid Gods can not save our people it is only and the only TRUE God who created the heavens and the earth can do that.

Brig Gen Tikoitoga was on national TV news here at 6pm tonight saying that the CO of position 27 had a choice of being "a Tiger" and to stand and fight or "a Pussy Cat" and live for another day.

He chose to be a "Pussy Cat" and Brig Gen Tikoitoga said he supports the decision he took to be a "Pussy" because the al Nusra had so many guns.

I suppose it contrasts with the Filipino's who decided to be Tigers and stood their ground against the so many guns and are now relaxing over the border in Israel.

Why don't you ask Muslims and Hindus to pray for you?? Hahaha, You cannot mock God guys...

Anonymous said...

It's interesting that Tikoitoga months ago said that the military should not be the subject of political debate by the political parties.

Then, like Anon 5.46pm says, Tikoitoga wants to dictate what the political parties should and should not talk about.

This is rich coming from the organization that took away many jobs and even lives in their own country.

Never mind that it is improper in any democracy for its military to do what Tikoitoga did.

This incident just in fact dragged the whole of the RFMF into the centre of the elections.

Well done Tikoitoga!

Irish Battalion had 135 man QRF force as backup and provided support for the first Filipino Unit which broke through on Saturday.

The Irish couldn't get to the Second Filipino position because of the heavy al Nusra concentration around that position. They Filipino's remained pinned and in heavy exchange of fire with al Nusra for Friday and Saturday, which included mortar fire.

Israeli SF found a gap in the al Nusra line on Saturday night and led the second Philippine Ranger unit to safety over the Israeli lines through that breach.

All Filipino Rangers accounted for, no casualties.

I hazard to speculate that the filipino units were appropriately armed for the environment they were in and were confident to fight.
On the other hand, the Fijians were inadequately armed. (personal weapons only?) - hence the commanders decision to surrender? The troop commanders made a call based on the risks to the Fijian soldiers and their options, and were likely the correct call.

Right.... Only to be beheaded. I'd say whatever weapon should not be a reason for surrender in front of these terrorist thugs. Instead fight to death to protect human values which these terrorists don't have.

Once they were surrounded, they called the HQ here for further orders. They were specifically ordered to surrender - not by Tikiotoga, but by Brother Aiyaz.

This was all pre-planned. I have been saying this for months on this forum. If you didn't believe me, it is your problem now.

Wake up tomorrow to the news of beheading and wait till next week when we take over Fiji and establish an Islamic caliphate.

Anon @7.38

Filipino's had M4's, 50 cals, K2's, Minimi, sqaud weapons and side-arms. Their gear has been revealed by their CO in the media a few hours ago.

Our boys had the same.

The Filipino's had 35 guys at one position and 40 at another. Both positions stood to and engaged.

At position 27 Fiji had 45 men. Each man had an M16 A2, there would have been probably 7 to 10 squad weapons i.e GPMG's, Minimi's plus there would have been M4's probably 20 and glocks. I am not sure whether they took M203's as well with their M16's. I am guessing they did.

There was no difference in what our guys had and what the Filipinos had.

The only difference is the Filipino's knew what to do. They are experienced Rangers from their Scout Ranger Battalion

They've been fighting on Mindanao against the Abu Sayyaf and and Moro Liberation Front and Jamat Islamiya militia for basically two decades.

That would have made it easy for the Israeli's to run that night time exfiltration with them. Coming into Syria and then going back over the border into Israel in that night time exfil through al Nusra lines and Syrian lines without any problems was no mean feat.

They would be experienced with night time ops.

Anonymous said...

There were also APC's at Position 27 and they would have been fitted with 50 cals.

BAI AND INOKE SHOULD BE ARRESTED NOW

More than 70 Filipino U.N. peacekeepers are now safely away from Islamist militants in the Golan Heights as clashes continue against al-Qaeda-linked Syrian rebels, according to the Philippine military.

Thirty-two peacekeepers were been rescued after militants surrounded their camp, trapping them for two days, activists and officials said.

Other U.N. peacekeepers were able to flee from a different encampment that was also surrounded by rebels of the al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, they said.

Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang said Sunday in the Philippine capital, Manila, that the remaining Filipino peacekeepers separately moved to positions that were safely away from any further threat.

According to Catapang, the Filipinos were surrounded by the rebels and had to return fire in self-defense before managing to escape after a seven-hour siege.

Catapang said: "We may call it the greatest escape."

The clashes come after Syrian rebel groups, including the al-Nusra Front, overran the Quneitra Crossing — located on the frontier between Syrian- and Israeli-controlled parts of the Golan Heights — on Wednesday, seizing 44 Fijian peacekeepers.

The peacekeepers are a part of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) which has been in place since 1974 to maintain the cease-fire between the Israeli and Syrian forces, the website states.

UNDOF has 1,223 troops from six countries: Fiji, India, Ireland, Nepal, Netherlands and the Philippines.

Under cover of darkness, 40 Filipino peacekeepers who were surrounded and came under fire by Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights made a daring escape, a Philippine military chief said on Sunday.

At the same time, 44 Fijian soldiers remained in the hands of the insurgents.

After coming under rebel attack on Saturday, the first group of 35 Filipino peacekeepers was successfully escorted out of the UN encampment in Breiqa by Irish and Filipino forces on board armoured vehicles, said General Gregorio Pio Catapang and other military officials.

Another group of 40 Filipino troops had remained trapped at another encampment, called Rwihana, by more than 100 gunmen who rammed the camp’s gates with their trucks and fired mortar rounds after the Filipinos refused to surrender with their weapons and instead returned fire in self-defence, Philippine military officials said.

Syrian government forces fired artillery rounds from a distance at one point to prevent the Filipino peacekeepers from being overwhelmed by the rebels, said Colonel Roberto Ancan, another Philippine military official, who helped monitor the tense Golan stand-off and mobilise support for the besieged Filipinos.

“Although they were surrounded and outnumbered, they held their ground for seven hours,” Catapang said in a news conference in Manila, adding there were no Filipino casualties.

“We commend our soldiers for exhibiting resolve even while under heavy fire.”
The 40 fled with their weapons from the Rwihana encampment under cover darkness overnight, travelling across the chilly hills for nearly two hours, before meeting up with other UN forces who escorted them to safety early on Sunday, Philippine officials said.

During the siege, the Philippine secretaries of defence and foreign affairs, along with the country’s top military brass, gathered in a crisis room at the military headquarters in the capital to muster support for the Filipino forces and help ensure their safety.

The Syrian and Israeli governments provided support, Filipino military officials said without elaborating.

“We may call it the greatest escape,” Catapang said.

In New York, the UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) reported that shortly after midnight local time, during a ceasefire agreed with the armed elements, all the 40 Filipino peacekeepers left.

“The 40 peacekeepers arrived in a safe location one hour later,” the statement said.

The clashes came after Syrian rebel groups, including the Nusra Front, overran the Quneitra crossing on the frontier between Syrian and Israeli controlled parts of the Golan on Wednesday, seizing 44 Fijian peacekeepers. The Fijian peacekeepers remain in rebel custody.

Voters should now demand the resignation of Mosese Tikoitoga so Commandership of the FMF be designated to a more capable visionary leader.
Our 45 brothers, fathers and uncles were of course ill prepared for this assignment; one of the world's most volatile spot.Of course the rebel intel on our deficiency proved right when they were met with little resistance and even cajoled one of our soldiers to "assist" in the rebels attempts to persuade the Filipinos to surrender.Which they did NOT! Needless to say the Filipino were well and fully prepared.

Let's hope their location is found soon so the Irish, Indians and Nepalese can go help rescue them.

I hope not to ever see those cheap shiny medals displayed across heaved chests by the 'top brass' back home if these Fijian soldiers get beheaded. On your watch guys, on your watch!

Theological sentiments expressed today in some local churches that our 45 men should be proud sacrificial token toward the fulfillment of peace in the middle east and the protection of Israel is a cop out....a warped theological stupidity.

Bring back our 45 men...please!...their family needs them home on father's day!!

Voters should now demand the immediate resignation of Mosese Tikoitoga so Commandership of the FMF be designated to a more capable visionary leader. He is a political appointment of course.
Our 45 brothers, fathers and uncles were of course ill prepared for this assignment in one of the world's most volatile spot. Of course, the rebel's intel of our deficiency, probably gathered by the local civilian staff allowed in to the Fiji UN Camp, proved right when they were met with little resistance. The rebels are reported to even cajoled one of our soldiers to "assist" in the rebels attempts to persuade the Filipinos UN Camp to surrender. Which they did NOT! Needless to say the Filipino were well and fully prepared to stall the attack and escape as reported.

Mosese should admit his biggest plunder, and resign.

Also PM Bainimarama should and must resign as he is equally to blame.
In fact, voters should vote all members of this regime out of office!!

Our men were sent to "war" against these heavily armed and well-resourced rebellious elements only with "guard duty" attire and equipment.

Any layman mind would reduce that to enter into these hostile and highly volatile spots on earth needs more than guard uniform.
Yet, our Military minds in Delainabua (and Berkeley crescent who may be reading this) thought otherwise. How could the United Nations have vetted this blunder??? The UN are aware of the arsenal of military equipment the Filipino UN camp possessed. Of course, the UN also knew the pop guns and dahngari our relatives were ill equipped with.

Never have any Fijian soldier in any theatre of war called a “pussy”. Not one us Fijian have ever called them “pussy’.
It is degrading that the politically appointed Commander of the FMF is deceived that “pussies” are under his commander.

The Fiji Military Force and her proud legacy of bravery is definitely no battalions of pussies!

He therefore must resign and look for pussies to command.

The writing is now on the wall for Mo Tikoitoga. The army has just disgraced itself and Fiji (again), this time just before the elections. Fijians want someone to pay.

Bainimarama and Khaiyum are the biggest culprits, but they won't hesitate to throw Tikoitoga under the bus in an effort to appease Fijian voters, especially if heads begin to roll literally.

Tikoitoga is set up to be the fall guy here, the scapegoat. He might even be headed for prison. Bainimarama would eventually have arrested him anyway, even without the drama in the Golan Heights.

But Mo can still be the hero if he would simply arrest Bainimarama and Khaiyum for treason and allow for the formation of a unity government. No other step would do more to restore the reputation of the army. Mo would go from Zero to Hero and stay out of the slammer. He might even win election outright as PM.

Don't expect to see this, though. Tikoitoga just isn't very bright, and he certainly isn't decisive. He's a perfect tool for Bainimarama and his next fallguy.

Our forefathers have already declared that Fiji to be the land of Christianity only.

There is only one and true God and that is Jehovah, not Allah, not Buddha and definitely not Vishnu.
Jehovah said, "Worship no other God but me".

Now the devil is so smart and craft that he brought up the idea of equality and diversity where for Eg.man can marry a man, and woman a woman. Also, we can worship anything God we wanna serve even if you wanna serve the devil, you can.

Now, we in Fiji haven allowed heathens to force their evil, devil God into our beloved Fiji.
Secular state is not of God. Christian state is of God... "Worship now other God but me".

Now, we will struggle as we have downgraded God any upgraded the idols (devil) today be equal. We will face the consequences.

Not only are the near 300 Tonga Fijians, probably including the young Chief Ratu U Mara will miss out, but hundreds or even thousands others within the perceived anti-regime Diaspora.

Still the Bainimarama/Aiyuz dynasty fades away on the sunset of September 18,2014....for ever!!!!!!

The only reason that no government officials went to register voters in Tonga is that they know the whole Tongan Fijian Community will meet vote against FFP because of what happened to Ratu Ului.
After several request from Tonga, no government officials were positioned to Tonga.

On the other hand, they even came as far as Britain, Germany, Belgium, France, Cyprus etc etc but did not even made an attempt to go next door (Tonga).

Army says...the hearts of the people cry for their beloved captured in Syria. The memories of the atrocities committed by the Fiji Military against their own people is far more memorable and etched in the fearful heats of the people of Fiji, knowing the brutality of the soldiers who have shown no mercy towards their own people and have treated them like animals and gloat in their machoism of terror over their people. Karma perhaps or a measure of idiocy by a Military Goon Frank Bainimarama knowing the outcome. I say Karma has now bounced back at a time when Fiji enters into a political war that has separated its people father against son. Now we pay the price for allowing a fool to lead our nation. Perhaps this is an opportune time for the military to ponder the events.

Several media sources are now affirming that the al-Qaeda backed al-Nursa brigade of 15,000 fighters has allied with the 15,000 ISIS fighters to aid in the formation of an Islamic caliphate in Syria and Iraq.

Previously the two groups were reportedly at opposition as ISIS was disavowed by al-Qaeda for being too extreme. Now, the two groups have allied putting 30,000 battle-tested, fanatical guerrilla warriors in the terrorist camp under a unified command.

Let us pray for peace in this critical region.

Opposing them are possibly hundreds of thousands of poorly equipped, barely trained, Iraqi conscripts and volunteers. In Syria, a beleaguered and exhausted army holds its line against the terrorists. Pushed out of the conflict is the Free Syrian Army, an organization that simply wanted to free Syria from the oppressive rule of Bashir al Assad.

Now the people of the region are most likely to face life under a modern Islamic caliphate with ties to al-Qaeda and a special hatred of Israel and the United States.

Photographs of the leaders of both brigades have emerged, showing the men shaking hands and embracing.

This situation is eminently serious. Iraq no longer has the military capability to oppose a force of 30,000 insurgent fighters. These men are well-equipped, well-financed veterans of the brutal conflict in Syria. The Iraqi army has numbers, but that's about it. The absolute lack of training and equipment means those troops will be largely thrown away in any pitched battle.

Iraqi airpower will be a big help, but airstrikes have limited value against guerrilla fighters who can coalesce and disperse at the sound of approaching aircraft. If they can get their hands on credible surface-to-air equipment, then that calculus could also change for the worse.

The United States will need to have an interest in the region because the members of ISIS and al-Nursa have no interest in peaceful engagement with the rest of the world. These fighters believe in conversion by the sword, and are fighting to spread Islam around the globe. Although they are not invincible, their brutal tactics make up with fear what they lack in numbers. They are powerful out of proportion to their numbers.

It is likely the world will have to fight them man-to-man at some point if we are unwilling to tolerate the formation of a new Islamic state in the ancient lands of Nineveh.

Indeed, over 26 centuries ago the Assyrians formed an empire in that very region and dominated the known world with their military. Their chief weapon was fear. Anyone who opposed them would pay steeply as the Assyrians thought nothing of torturing and murdering opponents, including women and children. They made spectacles of such brutality and boasted about it in their writings and artwork.

It's difficult to avoid seeing the parallels. These terrorists are conquering lands and ruling them by fear, posting videos and pictures reveling in their brutality.

The ancient Assyrians were eventually conquered by a coalition of states, especially the Medes and Chaldean peoples, civilizations which occupied the present-day locations of Iraq and Iran.

Likewise, a similar coalition may be needed to oust these would-be neo-Assyrians from the same region. However, the effort will be both bloody and expensive. The other nations of the world may have to help. As ISIS and al-Nursa enjoy successes, their reputation and power will only grow. The world will have to prepare a way to deal with these people or choose to tolerate their presence and aggression for years to come.

We can rest certain they will not be still, nor will they abide the existence of those different from them, making it only a matter of time before they become a problem for everybody.

Well..well...well first Tikoitoga was trying to hide their identity. Now you can't hide them anymore.

THIS IS WHAT WE WERE TELLING TIKOITOGA FROM THE BEGGINING. YOU CANT HIDE ANYTHING FROM THE PRYING EYES OF THE WORLD OR GOD FOR GOODNESS SAKE. YOU PEOPLE ARE SINNERS.

Now that their ID is seen, worst still from the rebels tehmselves, the all we have to tell Bai & Tikoitoga is see how stupid they are and see how people knows their stupidity. You are playing with fire.

Recruiting more to replace these men doesn't help. It will only escalate the problem.

Ranting about your wish to keep the men and continue recucruiting is a VERY, VERY DANGEROUS Thing to do right now. It only shows that you have no respect of the missing men. The best choice were to let another another country cover those check point until you got them back and before you start reccruiting their replacement. ITS VERY UN-RESPECTFUL INDEED.You seem to follow the UN by kissing arses who at the end of the day has an agenda to fulfill. And as a dog you will always obey.

If the Nabua army personnel are smart enough then DON'T volunteer to go because you might not come back alive.

I'd like to thank @anonymous 10:33, because he is fairly accurate. These al-Nusra rebels are descendants of Ninevites.

The people of Nineveh were very wicked people.

They used to put skewers into their enemies tongue and ears and dragged them all the way back to Nineveh.
This is documented in the Bible.

So for me to hear these people doing beheadings, I know they are capable of worse things.
AND NOW THEY ARE HOLDING FIJIANS.

in the end god could not stand these people and GOD WAS ABOUT TO SEND JUDGEMENT TO THEM SO HE SENT JONAH.

NOW MOST PEOPLE HAVE HEARD ABOUT JONAH.....and what happened afterwards.

THE AMAZING THING,we read in the Book of Jonah...., IS THESE NINEVITES SUDDENLY REPENTED WHEN JONAH PREACHED TO THEM...and God spared them the JUDGEMENT.

JONAH OF COURSE WAS THORUOGHLY PISSED OFF WITH GOD...

SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE JONAH.....
SOMETIMES I WISH THE FARKING al-Nusra WILL JUST BEHEAD THESE FARKING ARSEHOLES BECAUSE THEY DESERVE IT....after what these fijian soldiers have done to this country.

He has also worked as a journalist. He maintains close ties with Fiji and publishes the respected blog Fiji: The Way It Was, Is and Can Be).

imgAmong its claims that the Bainimarama Government has undermined indigenous rights, including land rights (hence the SODELPA slogan ‘Reclaim Fiji’) is the assumption that the existing official iTaukei institutions, such as the provincial councils and the TLTB, are inadequate to the task unless they have the protective umbrella of the Great Council of Chiefs. This was evident in a recent listing by Ro Teimumu of 17 decrees SODELPA would change if it becomes government. Almost all of them mentioned the GCC. Their “modest” message was clear: without the GCC all will be lost.

Yet, iTaukei land is protected in the Constitution, in a number of laws, and the TLTB Board is not exactly toothless.

The Board comprises ten members, all Taukei, headed by the PM as Minister of iTaukei Affairs. Seven members are chiefs, two of whom were former members of Senate and the GCC. Another was Ambassador to Japan and South Korea. One member was the Permanent Secretary for Land and Regional Development, another a long-standing member of the Native Affairs Board, and four have been or still are chairmen or members of Provincial Councils. Hardly pushovers, even with the PM in the chair.

The TLTB website leaves no doubt about the protection of Taukei land; it is quite explicit on this score:

iTaukei land comprises 87 percent of all the land in Fiji and was permanently deeded by the British Crown in the 1880’s. To put it simply, this land cannot be sold. It will forever remain as property of the landowning unit unless sold back to the State and then used solely for public purpose. iTaukei land is available for public use by lease agreement. Leases can vary from 30 years for agricultural purposes up to 99 years for most other uses including residential, commercial and industrial leases.

Reclaiming Fiji for who?

And if he wants our land for a "public use", however he chooses to define that, then it's gone, stripped from us, without legal recourse. You're just as "respected" as Croz Walsh's blog, which is to say that you're commonly regarded as a sh*t-eating traitorous dog.

FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama said that the Social Democratic Liberal Party was allegedly spreading lies in Kadavu about land not being given back to the itaukei.

Speaking to more than 1,000 people at the FijiFirst Fun Day which was held at Syria Park in Nausori, FijiFirst Leader Voreqe Bainimarama said that he had to go and set ideas straight with the people of Kadavu during his visit this week.

He said in his government’s eight years of service it has never taken itaukei land without the permission of the landowners.

Bainimarama also claimed that SODELPA is preaching to people that if Fiji has a prime minister who is not itaukei the issue of selling itaukei land could be an open issue in parliament.

He said that the lies which SODELPA is saying will only result in people getting wrong ideas and making wrong choices

Media report:

"Under the cover of darkness, 40 Filipino peacekeepers made a daring escape after being surrounded and coming under fire by Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights, the Philippine military chief said Sunday, while 44 Fijian troops remained in the hands of the al-Qaeda-linked insurgents.

After coming under rebel attack Saturday, the first group of 35 Filipino peacekeepers was successfully escorted out of a UN encampment in Breiqa by Irish and Filipino forces on board armored vehicles, Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang and other military officials said.

Another group of 40 Filipino troops had remained trapped at another encampment, called Rwihana, by more than 100 gunmen who rammed the camp's gates with their trucks and fired mortar rounds after the Filipinos refused to surrender with their weapons. Surrounded and besieged, the Filipinos returned fire in self-defense, Philippine military officials said."

outpost in the Golan Heights on Sunday after a seven-hour gun battle with Syrian rebels. Al-Qaida-linked insurgents are still holding 44 Fijian troops captive.

The getaway, combined with the departure of another entrapped group of Filipino troops, marked a major step forward in a crisis that erupted on Thursday when Syrian rebels began targeting the peacekeeping forces. The United Nations security Ccouncil has condemned the assaults on the international troops monitoring the Syrian-Israeli frontier, and has demanded the unconditional release of those still in captivity.

The crisis began when Syrian rebels overran the Quneitra crossing located on the de facto border between Syrian- and Israeli-controlled parts of the Golan Heights on Wednesday. A day later, insurgents from the al-Qaida-affiliated Nusra Front seized the Fijian peacekeepers and surrounded their Filipino colleagues, demanding they surrender.

The Filipinos, occupying two UN encampments, refused and fought the rebels on Saturday. The first group of 35 peacekeepers was then successfully escorted out of a UN encampment in Breiqa by Irish and Filipino forces on board armoured vehicles.

The remaining 40 peacekeepers were besieged at the second encampment, called Rwihana, by more than 100 gunmen who rammed the camp's gates with their trucks and fired mortar rounds. The Filipinos returned fire in self-defense, Philippine military officials said.

Anonymous said...

At one point, Syrian government forces fired artillery rounds from a distance to prevent the Filipino peacekeepers from being overwhelmed, said Colonel Roberto Ancan, a Philippine military official who helped monitor the tense standoff from the Philippine capital, Manila, and mobilise support for the besieged troops.

"Although they were surrounded and outnumbered, they held their ground for seven hours," Philippine military chief General Gregorio Pio Catapang said, adding that there were no Filipino casualties. "We commend our soldiers for exhibiting resolve even while under heavy fire."

As night fell and a ceasefire took hold, the 40 Filipinos fled with their weapons, travelling across the chilly hills for nearly two hours before meeting up with other UN forces, who escorted them to safety early Sunday, Philippine officials said.

"We may call it the greatest escape," Catapang told reporters in Manila.

The Syrian and Israeli governments, along with the US and Qatar, provided support, the Philippine military said without elaborating.

In New York, the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), whose mission is to monitor a 1974 disengagement in the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria, reported that shortly after midnight local time, during a ceasefire agreed with the armed elements, all 40 Filipino peacekeepers left their position and "arrived in a safe location one hour later."

UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon spoke with the prime minister of Fiji by telephone Sunday, and promised that the United Nations was "doing its utmost to obtain the unconditional and immediate release" of the Fijian peacekeepers, Ban's office said.

The Fiji Times Online reported that Fiji's military commander expressed concern that the exact locations of the Fijian peacekeepers remain unconfirmed.

Military commander brigadier general Mosese Tikoitoga also told reporters in the South Pacific island nation on Sunday that contacts on the ground in the Golan Heights have assured the military of the captured soldiers' well-being, the report said.

He said a UN negotiation team and Fijians in Syria were working toward the peacekeepers' release.

The Nusra Front, meanwhile, confirmed that it had seized the Fijians. In a statement posted online, the group published a photo showing what it said were the captured Fijians in their military uniforms along with 45 identification cards. The group said the men "are in a safe place and in good health, and everything they need in terms of food and medicine is given to them."

It was unclear why the number of detained peacekeepers differed from the 44 figure provided by the UN.

The statement mentioned no demands or conditions for the peacekeepers' release.

The sad day for Fiji was when Fiji's own military started rounding up bashing, abusing, violating and killing its own people and in their own country. That was the saddest thing that ever happened in this country. There were ways and means of resolving issues but with Frank at the helm, the only way forward was brutal and this is a memory many Fijians will not forget. It continues to happen today with Police brutally bashing and killing suspects who have not been proven guilty and the police clearly have taken the law into their own hands. The announcement by Teleni that the Army is the custodian of the law in Fiji again reflects the mentality the soldiers are being led to believe, of their task. Unfortunately most of these soldiers are no school so they will accept anything told to them. We all hope and pray that our soldiers will be released unharmed however, it is evident already that Frank has no idea how to dissolve or resolve this issue and to help the soldiers who are captured. The true soldiers who served Fiji in the past and showed their courage and tenacity and resolve under fire like Colonel Draunidalo, Major General Sitiveni Rabuka are no longer in the Army to lead their men from the front and if they were there today, will make every attempt necessary to rescue the men even if they have to die in the process. Do our military leaders today have that courage and tenacity. Their actions are closely watched and no matter how much they say, the outcome of whether our boys come out of this unharmed or harmed, rests with their capable leadership. Do they have it...Perhaps if Frank put on his white uniform and call the Nusra losers and should be ignored, it might win their support and they may hand over the captured or perhaps the rear bottom of his white naval pants will turn brown in the face of danger...I think more the latter because right now, he should be on a plane over there in the middle east and providing moral support to our soldiers who right now, would probably be demoralised by the cowardly surrender of the 45....you know we could make a movie called 45...just like 300...

This is a warning to Tikoitoga and all his comrades who are supporting the illegal government. The God of this Christian nation is starting to act. Now you know what it is like to be an unarmed Fiji citizen being threatened by guns. Strange that you should ask us to pray to our God for the release of your army buddies, when you have been doing the same thing to us for the last 8 years, while we have been praying. You have been telling the world that the people of Fiji "are well and all is well", so why the change of tune when 40 of your boys are taken under the same condition as your coup. You never worried about us , the people of Fiji. You never cared about how we feel under the threat of your guns? We have suffered for the last 8 years, eating food we pick up from rubbish bins, living like dogs under leaking shelters and in poverty, while you and your boys feast and get drunk every day. What happened to your support for 2013 constitution that belittles our God by making this country a secular country? Now you are asking for HIS help while you trample on HIS people?
You have one last chance to redeem your self and your army or Bainimarama's army since you give your allegiance to him and not to the country. We again repeat, "God is not mocked. You will reap what you sow." Turn your heart to God and repent and not just from your mouth. He will show you what to do and He will release those soldiers. The Al Nusra people belong to our Christian God too even if they choose to rebel against HIM.

"VENGEANCE IS MINE", The Lord said.

I find the blatant hatred displayed on this website against the captured soldiers frankly quite disturbing. Yes we have a very negative attitude towards our soldiers from past history but making this some kind of political propaganda is frankly inhumane, low by all standards and down right disgraceful. These are our people bad or good. They are Fijians and we need to put differences aside at least for now and pray for these guys to come back home in one piece. The single biggest threat to all things good and right in this world is radical Islam. These murderous fucks need to be smashed with all the might the world can muster. As evidenced by this kidnapping radical Islam affects us all. We must not lower our selves to the level of the kidnappers. We must hold the moral higher ground and push to get our boys home.

After al-Nusra's statement was released, the UN and Fiji authorities admitted that 45 people were being held, having said for three days that it was 44. Al-Nusra says the troops were captured in retaliation for the UN's alleged ignorance of bloodshed of Muslims in Syria.
AL-NUSRA: In response to all of the crimes and complicity of the United Nations against the Sham [Syria] and his family, the Front has detained 45 of the Disengagement Observer Force of the United Nations; those forces that have been imposed on the people of the Levant since 1974 to ensure the security and protection of the borders of the Zionist entity [Israel] who, at the same time, completely ignored the blood of Muslims being shed daily on the other side of the border.
The United Nations' secretary general, Ban Ki Moon, who is in Samoa for the Small Island Developing States conference, has phoned Fiji's Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama to say the UN is doing its utmost to obtain the unconditional and immediate release of the peacekeepers.
Australia's foreign minister has also offered her country's support and intelligence resources to Fiji. In Suva, the military has set up a crisis centre where Mosese Tikoitoga says relatives can go for information and support.

Statement made by Tikoitonga...

"I think you would understand with him on the ground and 44 men under his command, looking down the barrel of 150-200 armed elements with five or six times more weaponry than they have, the questions that will be running through the commander's mind would be 'Do I become a tiger and fight or do I become a cat and fight another day?'" Brig-Gen Tikoitoga said.

Obviously the Commander of the Fiji Military Forces is calling his 45 soldiers pussy cats.....In such a time, such statements are uncalled for. There is an approach to responding to these issues but not call your own soldiers sonalevu...Are soldiers wondering why everyone else in Fiji is thinking the same....Yep your Commander made that statement in the media too....Pussy Cat soldiers...meow...perhaps they have been softened from abusing, bashing and murdering their own people. Or perhaps Tikoitonga is correct, Fiji Army is now a cowardly bunch who will not if challenged, put up a fight. The Phillipinos did with 150 - 200 weapons stating down, motar and attilary fire and made it out. Don't tell me they are special forces and that's why they were tougher. I thought we the people of Tailevu, Naitasiri, Namosi, Yasana Ba, Lau, Cakaudrove, Macuata, Bua, Serua and Nadroga were warriors...Tikoitonga went on to say it was no use putting up resistance if you kill one of them and they kill 15 of yours...and what are our boys there for...picnic...no wonder everytime we see photos on FB from Golan Heights, lovo, sitting around without weapons...around the tanoa...singing hyms...oh oh perhaps they thought God would protect them over the one year period...

Anonymous said...

Tikoitonga should have made a statement like...the situation the soldiers were placed at the time they were confronted by the rebels, was such that if they attempted to resist, this would have meant the loss of lives of our soldiers, not call them pussy cats...damn...de vussy.....leqa gona nira sa matau ga na vei moku vei ira ga nodra tamata...Tikoitonga You are the COWARD like your PM FRANK...He showed the people of Fiji his coward ways when he fled down the banana patch when the QBE was under attack. That is why today...you soldiers are following and acting like cowards...You guys need real soldiers not bloody pansy pussies running the army. Bring back real military men who are proud of the legacy left by Ratu Sukuna and all the other soldiers who served in WWII, Malaya, Korea, SAS BA etc. Sa qai vakamadua dua na mataivalua vusi...

Tikoitong is so dumb like Frank that he makes statements without thinking just like Frank...ulukau ga na ulukau...He even made a statement to the Australian media confirming the brutality against the people of Fiji and explaining this off with the fact that they were means of stopping any thought of putting up resistance against the Government. Your True test is here now Vusi Tikoitonga. Your men...have been captured...show your resolve and courage and bring your men back every 45 of them alive. Oh oh soldiers posting on these sites are again trying to blame Indians for the Kai Viti soldiers being captured....ha ha ha...cant stop blaming someone else and an Indian for that...Tikoitonga...you Pussy Cat...say meow to Frank for us and purrrr like you always do with your mow fluffing....lol..sa gay vaca dua ira na sotia sa mai kacivi ira tu na vusi nodra liuliu...wha ha ha ha muru vei nece...

restore taka lesu na unit special force ( CRW ) Put the commnder as they CO. To be on standby on any crisis like this and sent a team of 3 to 4 to be part of Peace keeping mission but they role is to rescue any hostage taking if the situation dictates.

Isa the soldiers of the RFMF must be seething reading the comments on this blog...however if the put two and two together they will realise the heckles started only after their commander made the statement that the 45 captured soldiers were pussy cats and not tiger's. The commander basically called his soldiers cowards and the heckles began...I hear frank was also seething when told the boys had surrendered and said are the cats or mouse...tikoitonga changed it to tiger or cat to make it sound tougher but both Fran n tikoitonga saw this surrender as a cowardly act...pretty sad that the commanders make such insensitive statements given the situation and worry by all of us who have a father son nephew uncle grandfather captured by the rebels

Syria and Israel and probably the US will be looking high and low for them. Drones, Human Intelligence contacts, electronic intercepts.

Tamani cakacaka baleta they have already been moved out of UNDOF area, which means they could be basically anywhere in Syria or Iraq (theoretically)as the borders are basically non existent right now over there.

Very high resolution.

Well done RFMF!

Not only are the 45 soldiers taken, their surrender has heightened the tense situation in that border area.

Isn't that the exact opposite of what your men are supposed to be doing in that area of operations?

So what happens if Israel or Syrian forces decide to escalate their operations in the area?

The Israeli PM is on the news saying that they are prepared to confront whatever happens in the Golan Heights. No doubt Israel is always tense especially after the recent fight in Gaza.

It will all be because the boys decided to surrender! Tactical, Operational, and Strategic blunders all rolled into one!

Wananavu RFMF!

Seriously though, I pray that the boys are returned home safely!

Anon @10.17

There is high alert in that whole UNDOF area. It is a crisis.

The Syrians searching for the Fijians. The Israeli's searching. Tapping contacts, electronic intercepts, drones.

And ultimately ransoms will have to be paid. Probably nothing less then 3 million USD per man.

The UN will foot the bill. There's no where the Fiji Government will be able to pull $120 million USD from on such short notice.
