Fiji regime presents 'clean' human rights report to UN

The regime delegation to the UN: 'We're all happy in Fiji'

First the Auditor's General report now human rights.

A regime delegation is in Geneva presenting a Human Rights report to the United Nations claiming to have resolved breaches.

Led by Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, the delegation delivered a 22 page report saying Fiji has met 97 out of 103 recommendations by the UN.

Here's some of the bullshit presented to the UN:

Khaiyum told the panel Fiji will ratify human rights treaties and is committed to making changes, where needed, to align local rights laws and policies with accepted international standards.

He promoted the 2013 Constitution at length, describing it "as an expression of will of the people" that reflects values that provides for, protects and promotes rights of all its citizens and should be aspired to universally.

Khaiyum said while the country has not acceded to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights or the International Covenant on Economic, Cultural and Social Rights, the 2013 Constitution provides for and promotes these rights under the Bill of Rights.

With regard to  Women's Rights, he said these are consistent with the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) which Fiji ratified in 1995.

"Our Constitution protects all Fijians from unfair discrimination including on the grounds of sex, gender identity and expression, pregnancy, marital status, culture, religion, social origin, conscience and social or health status," he said.

"These grounds that I have just read out are all new grounds and weren’t in any of the previous constitutions."

Khaiyum: Spewing lies
Khaiyum told the council the Military Code will be amended by Parliament as a matter of priority to remove the reference of death penalty altogether.

In regard to reports of assault on citizens while in police custody, he said where evidence of such assaults have been shown to be sufficient for prosecution as determined by the Director of Prosecutions, "such persons have been prosecuted and some are currently serving terms of imprisonment for such acts."

He told the council that under the constitution, police procedures have been modernised and made more transparent to address and avoid acts of assault in police custody.

In regard to public service, he told the council that the Fijian Public Service policy is now based on meritocracy, after he Fijian Government has done away "with discriminatory policies for the public services put in place by previous governments" which introduced policies that "only further advanced an elite agenda and clique."

"In light of this experience, all appointments in the public service are now made on the basis of qualification and performance alone. The public service is currently undergoing reforms which will ensure that the systemic prejudice based on race, ethnicity, gender identity and religion is eliminated."

Chief Justice Anthony Gates also made a presentation to address matters pertaining to the judiciary, Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde addressed matters pertaining to the administration of the criminal justice system and MIDA Chairman Ashwin Raj is to address matters pertaining to media freedom.

Vili, dont spoil it by swearing.

Just one swear word immediately tarnishes the authenticity of your views.

In anger you get all the more mixed up.

Keep writing but at the same time try and hold your cool brother.

No Vili, you dont know where you are coming from.

You have no respect for your elders and your anger is misleading you.

Respect your elders and learn that the traditional system will not permit you to get away with foolish and careless utterances.

You're not aware that your reasonings are somewhat distorted along the lines where you dont make sense at times.

Your role is to condemn corruption lies and injustice outright. You are so obstinate in defending WRONG.

Be careful when you publicly use abusive and lewd language at your church elders and mataqali elders or towards anyone for that matter.

Its not right. Think about it Vili.

Hahahaha SODELPA supporters are now all gathering in a corner whispering how can we deal with Vili. Someone says first we'll accuse him of posting anonymously to thank himself and if that doesn't work we'll actually post a few comments to thank him and the accuse him of thanking himself. Then someone else says should we maybe put up our real name, the others in one voice says no don't be silly. We are the anonymous keyboard warriors and it suits us at least when we walk around town no one will know that we hate Indians but if we put our name everyone will and they may call us racist. Then someone says should we threaten the Indians with killing them and eating them you know like in the cannibalism days. Someone else asks, you mean like for real. Everyone else says no silly on the Internet anonymously. Remember we're the anonymous keyboard warriors. Be proud of our club we're making a difference.

Meanwhile Vili is enjoying the new Fiji.

@ Vili Rakoro gives himself away by saying he is enjoying the new Fiji. It is obvious that he is a beneficiary of the Bainimarama regime. Wonder how he has profited to make him such a champion Bai-Kai propagandist? Does anyone know?

It is evident that most SDL Sodelpa bloggers are former beneficiaries of the SDL Govt, that they are benefitting in any way is hurtful to them, people like Nayacakalou,Tomasi,Kua ni rere, Rainmaker,Rajend Naidu and who oever, they were benefitting from the SDL Govt now that no money is flowing into their pockets they will try to enlighten their small, insignificant and miserable lives by posting all evil and sundry against the Fiji First Govt. I didnt say Fiji Govt but Fiji First Govt. This Govt will look after its own as PM stated this will ensure that the more than 70% of I-Taukei and more than 80 % of Indian voters vote for the Fiji First come the 2018 election. So Vili Rakoro thank you for taking over,I was in the frontlines of this Blog most of last year defending the Fiji First Govt. What Vili Rakoro is posting is the truth, most I-Taukei openly profess to be Christians, going to church every Sunday, attending the weekly gathering but the fact is most male leders worship the Devil Satan. They do Vakadraudrau,or Witchcraft especially those in the Methodist Church.I am one a witness to these events and it is common knowledge in the village that these men who worship the Devil -Draunikau have taken upon themselves the word 'wolf in sheeps clothing' they cover their dark deeds by going to church and lotu and all but inside their bodies it is a 'bulubulu boro vulavula' they are Demons,if you dont believe then listen to the confessions of one former methodist preacher who is now a memeber of the New Methodist Church, his interview is on You Tube. What he will reveal will shock you,he said that Demon Worshippers who speak freely with the devil on a daily basis a trying to control the Church by electing like minded wolves into positions of influence, Have you ever wondered why the Methodist Church is actively involved in Politics, yes they arent spiritual but demonical, lets hope that those Talatala who are clean about 90 % will uphold the Bible and not the false doctrines of these Vakadraudrau elders. Many Dauvunau [pastors]have been caught red handed doing the meke vula or moon dance. That is how they keep fit, aerobics at night in the bush with their fellow worshippers.Go into any I-Taukei village especiaaly Nayacakalou's village, many dau Vakadraudrau live there, just read the venom and filth posted by this son of the Devil Nayacakalou and you will realise the facts i am talking about.Kua ni Rere's father is also the head of the Cult his words posted are the words produced from the bosom of Hell.SDL Ministers were all LT not Land Transport but the the other LT no wonder God rebuked them and chose his General and swordsman PM to remove the immoral and evil SDL Ministers who had overspent their budget several times that thewere bleeding the nation dry, the name Nayacakalou is the name of a Demon who wanted to be God,but his filth will drag him to hell.I rebuke you all,Nayacakalou,Toamasi,Rainmaker and Kua ni Rere.

So one assumes you Rajend Naidu did not vote and therefore you have denied your party a tick which may have helped them win the election but in this case, it would have been pretty hopeless given the number of people who voted Frank.

@Anonymous 11.06 PM (Nov 2) accusses me of benefiting under the SDL Government. Whoever the person is he or she does not obviously know me and is letting his or her imagination run wild. I was a victim of cynical political persecution by the SDL Government. I was forced out of my job as an Assistant Director of Social Welfare. No I am not a beneficiary of the SDL Government. For me the issue is not about being pro-SDL or SODELPA or being anti- Bainimarama and Fiji First. It is about seeking out and siding with the truth about what is happening in my home country ( where many of my dear relatives still live)and offering criticism to ensure we do not stray from good governance with that entails - an abiding respect for the rule of law, the separation of executive powers and the execution of duties with independence, impartiality and integrity;freedom of the press;a vibrant civil society that can challenge the status quo and the government of the day; staying true to our international commitments on human rights, civil and political rights and free trade unions. When the State strays from any of these it is harmful to the people. We must be vigilante against that happening. Hence my engagement here.

I would like to ask members of these blog regardless of whatever parties you support, what are your thoughts on the Pacific Island forum? The government is refusing to go back in until Australia and New Zealand roles is revised.

Personally I have never liked how Australia and New Zealand always seems to be the leaders and bullying the small Pacific Island countries that are afraid to stand up to them.

I reckon still have them in but give them a role of some sorts rather then being a full time member and have Fiji take the lead role.

Thoughts anyone???

editor,
When someone like Mike Reid of Ovalau writes in to the number one newspaper in Fiji to say he has "no confidence in our police force" and that "our new police chief ...is just taking a two year paid vacation from South Africa while collecting his pension there and cutting cakes and making speeches here" (Fiji Times 3/11) that's really saying a lot because he is no radical anti-government agitator.
Mr. Reid gives us a clear indication why he feels the way he feels. He says " nothing has changed" with the recruitment of this expatriate police commissioner.
Who recruited him and why? Who is this police chief serving - the people of Fiji or his political masters?
I thought Bainimarama said when he took over total control of the country in 2006 that he wanted to bring about a "paradigm change".
How come a citizen says "nothing has changed" in the police force?
sincerely,
Rajend Naidu

You know why the two Sodelpa Warriors couldnt be bothered responding to Vili Nilly's Silly Comments about Evil stuff?? Havent you guess it yet?

Its because they understand very well that Vili needs his break - he is perhaps possessed or obsessed with his stories on demonic activities (just like yourself) hence the obvious reason why he keeps confusing himself in his very long outlandish round-the-bowl-of-grog fairytale stories that seem to end up making no sense at all! So, yes, you guessed it, they actually pity him and dont want to go there because it will only create sparks of fireworks in his thinking which will have poor Vili all fired up again and cant but help dabble more lasu stories and confusing the whole bang lot of us.

Sodelpa Warriors have tried to educate Vili and caution him but its no use.

One minute its about politics and next minute its about his past during his younger days, eating his Indian friend's lunch, running around in the dark, next its freaking demons and tevoros and than the church ministers start getting judged so harshly!

And now we are really concerned with the likes of you @ 11.14! What's happening to your pea-brain? Seems like you are trying to by-pass Vili in your race to prove how crazy you really are?

Let me tell you this - both of you - a baby's babbling is appealingly nonsensical but its only a baby but as for you FF worn-out-suportas, you should just take a wee step back and read what comes out of your messed up 'faculty of intelligence and reason'!

Kua Ni ReRe & Nayacakalou have pointed out these concerning issues a trillion times already in order that Vili will retrace, retrack and research his thesis thoroughly before presentation. However, our final and complete assessment brings us to declaring that ITS NO USE!!

After a good night's rest the topic jumps to "What are your thoughts on the Pacific Island Forum?".

@Vili. You must have heard about this phrase,"well intended but ill conceived" ?

I think that phrase accurately defines you and your position and comments regarding Voreqe, FFP and this whole sad and tragic saga. Let me elaborate please.

You sound like an intelligent person with a good heart that cares about others. But it appears you are in the wrong camp fighting the wrong cause. Because you and Voreqe and FFP do not stand for the same principles, values and goals. I sincerely believe that Voreqe and Khaiyum's lies, mind control and brainwashing has confused and deceived hundreds of thousands of well meaning people like you. You have swallowed their lies hook line and sinker.

While I believe that you mean well for our nation and our different communities, I do not think you have really understood the whole story and seen the full view. You are dealing with very evil, crafty, cunning, and dangerous people, most of whom you cannot even see. These people think only for themselves and they will use people, including you, Voreqe and our military and police to achieve their ends. The realities they allow you to see are so cunningly packaged and presented to deceive and win people, but they are only a small part of the truth of what is really happening. This is what our friends have been trying to explain to you. Please pause for a day, a week or two before you respond to this. I humbly ask you to stop and consider what we are trying to tell you and our nation. I think we are really fighting for the same ultimate goals. But we only differ in how we get there.

Most of your posts are sensible and true and must be applauded. But we find it so amusing and disappointed that you seem to think that is what Voreqe and Khaiyum stands for. How very wrong and mistaken you are Vili. Please get away from Voreqe. Hold true to your sacred values and principles. Fight for the right cause. Stop, think and think again, prayerfully. I hope you will find the wisdom and courage to make the right decision. Vinaka.

I don't know what it stands for.
I don't know who is bullying who.
etc etc
And that's why I wont make any comment.

But if you have any information on Bullying, then say it and enlighten us all...

Otherwise don't say it...BECAUSE HONESTLY I DONT HAVE TIME FOR BULLSHIT....and if you engage in Bullshit I wont waste time engaging.
Some people may, but I stay away from trash.

I only stand for what I know.
I KNOW THAT BAINIMARAMA IS A COMPULSIVE LIAR
I KNOW THAT HE IS A CONMAN.
I KNOW THAT HE IS NOT INETERESTED IN WHAT OTHERS HAVE TO SAY
I KNOW THAT HE DID THE FIRST COUP TO AVOID JAIL....so he does not believe in a FAIR JUDICIAL SYSTEM...
AND THAT IS WHY HE BEATS UP PEOPLE LIKE MR BILITAKI....
etc etc

And I know that he will try and CON the Fijian people to let go of their land and especially THe Land Bank.
This idea is not his but Kaiyums and QORVIS.

Bai listens to these two because of HIS GREED and A NARCISISTIC EGO that knows no bounds.

The main aim of the land bank is TO RELINQIUSH THE INDEGINEOUS PEOPLE FROM THE HOLD ON THEIR LAND.

And Bai will give it away for MONEY and For EGO.

Tomasi thank you for your honesty. I couldn't agree more with your particular comment on how we seems to fight for the same ultimate goals we just differ on how we get there.

I know that people seems to think there are hidden players who orchestrated all these using Frank as a face to their operation. I can't dispel those allegation because I do not have any evidence at the same time there's no evidence to prove it. At the moment it's all just a theory.

As for our views on how we get there I know our elders from previous generation had a good heart however they didn't have the brains which allowed them to be played especially by Australia and New Zealand.

Our generation in my view have the brains to be able to fight for the right of all Fijian citizens in Fiji as well as abroad in terms of foreign relation. We're not easily influenced nor played by fancy words nor promises because we anylise history, track records and stats to help us make a formal decision on any particular topic. Previous generation maybe easily hooked on things like aid on the face of it we however now prefer to analyse the catch for example the practice of having consultants from said country or organisation accompanying the aid and being paid massive wages or fees.

This is our time therefore rather than previous generation trying to cling onto powers and decision makings Howabout let us give it a go. You've had your chances and now it's our time.

We also not oblivious to the short comings of our leader we just think that for 32 years before Bainimarama the mistakes made is far greater than what developments made where as for these government their developments and good policies far outweighs their short coming. Obviously they can't make everyone happy but 8 years in power they've shown better promises then those in power 32 years before them.

critique said...

@ Vili . just one question. how many foreign consultants from Australia, NZ, US and China has the Bainimarama regime hired at exhorbitant fees during the past 8 years - and without proper tender process?

Unknown said...

@ Kua ni rere

I'm surprised you don't know anything about the Pacific Islands forum. Organisations like this are the building blocks of trades, work and education programmes. These helps us as a country to develop and thus address poverty which improves the standards of living.

One issues I've had with Australia and New Zealand is that they've taken a lead role in negotiations yet refuse to fully participate by cleverly using aids as their tool of manipulation. They also use these forum to try and influence domestic policies in various member countries especially PNG and Fiji. For example the foreign investors policies which enabled New Zealand and Australian companies to own businesses in Fiji or majority shares like the former Air Pacific airline brand and the gas companies in PNG. They also enable Australian and New Zealand companies and individuals to get government contracts.

And when member countries asks them for seasonal worker programmes or free citizens movement they refused with lame excuses.

Now Fiji have a far greater pull then before in terms of our foreign relation. PNG have been trying for years with no success to have a seasonal worker agreement with Australia. And now without even asking Australia have offered seasonal worker agreement to Fiji. Most Pacific Islands forum members like PNG would be glad and agree to that. If I was the adviser for our foreign affairs minister I would advise him not to accept it. Because Australia are trying to play us here. They know sooner or later Fiji will ask so they wanna have these as an excuse to stop that. So I would advice him to refuse the seasonal worker programme instead ask for full free movement like what they have with New Zealand. That will enable Fijian citizens to travel, work and live in Australia anytime and however long they want. If I was at the negotiations table my gosh I will fight on behalf of all Fijians regardless of what party, race and religion. I will pull out all the stops to get us that deal because that single deal I truly believe will elevate thousands of lives and lifts our citizens standards of living.

And yes there is nothing more frightful then IGNORANCE IN ACTION!

The real tragedy here is seeing how many FF Supporters FEAR THE LIGHT!

Sadly, they choose to be STUPID. They will believe Frank & Aiyaz's LIES because they want to believe its true!

Vili can you answer this question?

Why do you think Australia and New Zealand are kind of cosying-up to Fiji at the moment? All of a sudden, like you say, they're being extra friendly. Is there some hidden agenda behind all this?

I mean look at that lady minister who came over, whats her name again? She's all fake and trying to be nice.

Why, what do you think is going on?

@ Vili with your answer to my question you have confirmed to me that you are not capable of rational discussion. You ask what about the 32 years of the previous governments. But Bainimarama was suppose to be doing things differently. That's what he said when he did his coup. He said no more of the old ways. He was about change. So if his government did what previous governments did what has changed?

As we all know it, corruption and the worst of criminal acts breaching the law has been covered up or okayed by Frank and supported by Aiyaz's decrees. The Constitution itself has given all criminal elements of the illegal government immunity.

I dont see why Frank should say no to Gay rights seeing that it will bring 'transparency and equality' like you said and be pleasing to his supotas. Just another decree should do the trick.

Unbelievably sad that too many cock-and-bull-stories have been swallowed up by the Sheeples in FF Supotas.

Nothing is impossible about Fiji these days in which the Leaders of the government always freely choose to do WRONG.

So yes, go take your Gay right proposal to the FF government.

There is alot to uncover and check from all sides of the story. So much digging and investigation. I didn't even know any of these things about SVT and Indians been attacked sounds like your area was affected badly. In my community all races lived side by side peacefully. We were aware of these political coups and racism but everyone living in our community just knew this was alien and not like us.And to the person who said it was just military. That's the same thing everyone said in our neighborhood. It's to do with military and government. I must count myself lucky as in reality I never saw any of these terrifying things.I never voted for anyone in the election as I believe there's still alot of truth to be found.

Its time we, all Fijians, humble themselves and look at their Indian brothers as equals. Who are we to cruelly condemn and judge our Indian community? They dont bother us so why is it that we were born and raised to spite and ill-treat them?

Not all Fijians had this type of attitude towards them but I think it would be fair to say that most of us have witnessed either a crude or nasty comment being directed toward an Indian brother or sister.

Many Indian families have been subjected to un-Christian behaviour in the past.

It has been a great blessing that some form of protection has come over these people lately. Its a great relief in fact and we hope it stays this way.

God does work in mysterious ways. So much has happened to Fiji over the years, good and bad. But as we know it, God's intentions are always for good in the end using whoever He appoints to carry out His deeds.

On the topic of gay rights, they're already protected under the 2013 constitution. They're under the same section as discrimination. No one is to be discriminated against based on the religion, race, sex, disability and sexual preference.

I think what you guys probably mean is gay marriage. Even though it's been passed as a law in first world democracy and we strive to be like them, we should take it a step at a time. The main thing is that they're protected. As for gay marriage we have to understand that majority of our citizens are religious and whatever the denomination they're are still getting used to the Idea of having everyone called Fijian. We have to let that settle and hopefully overtime slowly talk about gay marriage. We're a tolerant nation and it shows how the majority have voted to accept the Fijian for all term. Maybe after the next election we then can bring up the idea. However I believe it will take us longer to get to a point where the first world democracy are.

Well, well what is next, saw the sudden about turn of the Aust and NZ Govt.? Why if you may ask, well I'll tell you the elders GB and Uncle Sam arent happy about Fiji being cosy with the East, Russia is opening an Embassy in Suva next year and this got some people worried.

It is about military strategy, our position in the Pacific,we are the Hub,the Chinese have found out how good it is to befriend Fiji their huge Naval Boats got to rest cosily on our harbour, with Aust and NZ within their sights; one missile will take an hour or 2 at the most to reach its target but Aust has also cosied up to China, increasing their tempo on trade with the Golden Dragon.

TRUTH FOR FIJI :" Bainimarma is currently passing the whole premium paid for leases over to the landlord. But this is only a trick to fool other landowners into falling into his trap and putting their lands into the Bainimarama Land Bank. Once all the good land is in Bainimarama's Land Bank then the amount of premium paid to landowners will be reduced drastically. Remember, that Bainimarama has broken every promise that he has made.

The lies told and the current premiums paid out to landowners easily sounds wonderful to landowners, given NLTB’s history of mismanagement, the very low rents received from leases, and how the rents were shared. But here lies the fraud, because the reality is the opposite. With the NLTB you still have a say and control over how your land is leased and how much it is to be leased for etc. But you will lose all control of your land under Bainimarama’s Land Bank – so be warned!

Bainimarama and Khaiyum are using lies and fear to promote and sell their Land Bank scheme to indigenous landowners. This is similar to how Adolf Hitler blamed Germany’s economic issues on the Jews and tricked the German people into following him, until it was too late."

Sounds very similar to " global governance" .

He does his own campaigning with a road tour on an old school bus and on foot meeting people on the street. Charlie is a proponent of a $15/hour minimum wage. He also wants to halt NSA spying on ordinary citizens... (Facebook US Uncut 26/8 and DW news 3/11).

At the moment Fiji's foreign relation is at its highest. We have refused to go back into the Pacific Islands forum without Australia and New Zealand role being revised and they're not gonna like it because that will diminish their influence around the Pacific and that means the US whom uses them to maintain influence in the Pacific won't be happy. Add that to China cosying up to Fiji that puts Australia at our peril.

We should therefore grap the opportunity to negotiate a deal that enables Fijian citizens free movements to Both Australia and New Zealand in regards to visiting, studying, working and living. We can give them something like backing off on our stance from the Pacific Islands forum about their roles. They'll have no choice but to accept it and we also know that with us back in the forum as well we'll be keeping an eye on them making sure they're not up to their usual tricks.

The British Military have just offered a training agreement with our Military which means the UK are starting to deal with us directly obviously we have a history with them given our boys and girls in their thousands serving for them. Now if we play it right we can even be bold enough to ask if they can agree to free movements too with us like what we've asked Australia and New Zealand. They may very well say no but you never know they might actually agree.

We can then try to negotiate Fiji Airways getting flight routes from London Heathrow to Hong Kong and since we've already got the route from Fiji to Hong Kong Fiji Airways can then make holiday deals to attract the UK tourists which will boost our Tourism Industry.

Imagine Fijian citizens having the ability to visit, work and live in UK, Australia and New Zealand for however long they want without visa requirements. That would change so many people's lives.

Here we go again these idiots keep embarrassing themselves. Taking comments out of contexts intentionally to try and use it so they can curse and swear. At least I hope they're doing Iit intentionally otherwise they're just clueless idiots with narrow minds. Going on about people's rights yet not accepting those same people when they've voted in majority for these government and it's mandates.

It actually embarrassing to know that these blogs and comments are seen by lots of foreign nationals abroad and they get to see how freaking narrow minded and racist indigenous Fijians are. They can't put together a solid argument based entirely on facts. There's always a sprinkling of coconut wireless and grog bowl fm there.

They consistently harp on about the past and gave no foresight whatsoever about the future. I've only been commenting on these blogs a few weeks and it saddens me to see how no one has even attempted to propose an idea on how to improve the country. When it comes to foreign relations they're useless. Negotiating deals with foreign countries to open opportunities is something completely alien to this lot.

They keep harping on about the land. Let's see most of these probably are members of a clan that owns acres of lands that have been sat there for decades. As soon as someone mentions hey let's make use of that land. They all shout no way it's mine I'm not sharing. You tell them you'll be financially rewarded and you'll still own it. Given you haven't done anything whatsoever with it for decades do you mind someone pays you to use it for something productive. Their answer no this is my land, God gave it me. I don't care if I don't use it, I don't want anyone else using it.

And they expect to better their lives while sitting on their lazy arses and blame Bainimarama for their circumstances. Empty vessels no longer just make more sound they bang that freaking noise to high heavens for everyone to hear.

Bloody Rascals stuck in a time loop.

hey village boy, the problem with you billy goat is that u make false assumptions. first rights are not just indigenous rights... both with respect to lands and elections. they apply to all fijians.
what u conveniently forget is that these land bank decree was forced onto people...it just happens to affect indigenous people more than others, but it nevertheless affects everyone who is a landowner...can you appreciate the unfairness of the land bank law that despite being a landowner, whether native or freehold or crown lessee, you have no say in the terms of the lease of your land, and whatever decision baini/kai makes on the terms, ie rent, term, etc, you cannot challenge that decision is a court of law...cant you see the futility of land ownership when your land is given to someone else for 99 years with perpetual renewal without you ever having the right to challenge it and get your land back when your rights are being abused...that you are entirely at the mercy of the government...i guess your lot has what your hero says myopic vision...and just in case you dont know what that means...it means short sighted...

editor,
We learn from DW news 4/11 that the African Union has given the Bukina Faso military an ultimatum to return the country to civilian rule within the next two weeks or face sanctions ('African Union gives Bukina Faso army ultimatum').
The AU is convinced the change (the military takeover) has been against democracy the head of the AU's Peace and Security Council said.
The threat of sanctions followed words of condemnation from the UN, the US and the EU over the weekend in reaction to the military's taking control of the country.
The UN envoy for West Africa said if the army refused to hand power back " the consequences are pretty clear".
This is so unfair to the Bukina Faso military. All this talk about sanctions and consequences and ultimatums.
The Bukina Faso military should be given a minimum period of 8 years to make the transition from military rule to democracy - just like Fiji.

Off cause you can challenge decisions. Stop freaking talking shit. The only difference if you disagree with a decision you have to go to your clan and discuss it with them and then the clan votes on it. If more than 60 percent of the clan agrees with you then you can challenge any decisions. But if you're the only one disagreeing and the rest of the clan agrees then that's it.

"RE : AIYAZ KHAIYUM
Above all he has had the dictator force his so-called Cabinet to rubber stamp great rafts of so-called laws. He receives a threatening phone call, so all phones in the country must be registered or the service will be cut off. But it doesn’t stop there. He’s had $20 million and the name Fijian ripped from the Fijian Affairs Board.
The crowning piece of arrogance is his Decree ordering all surf breaks to freely available to all. In one stroke all talk of Qoliqoli rights are dispensed with. Everyone knows that almost all surf breaks in Fiji are associated reefs, which are the heart of qoliqoli issues. Aiyaz can now stand in front of the mirror and declare that he had the power to take native owners any rights that they may have felt they had, without a seconds further thought or discussion.

He’s already taken rights from hotel investors and even from the mighty Rupert Murdoch himself, so this might see like small beer to him. Or is it? Is he now looking in that mirror and telling himself that he, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, has shown the entire Fijian community just how powerless they now are?

No doubt Aiyaz reasons that he can get away with this without protest from the Fijian community (which he sees as ready to grovel at the military strong man’s feet) then the takeover of land which he plans can proceed immediately.

When this happens, he knows that everyone will realise that he’s the man.

So the final act is underway — the Land Use Decree 2010 which establishes a unit in the Lands Department to hand out native land to whoever the dictator fancies. Landowners will hand the land over to the unit which will cut out the NLTB and also the landowners themselves from all the negotiating.

The official press release announcing the Land Use Decree declares “‘Cabinet based its decision on a submission by the Attorney General, Mr Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.” Just in case any was in any doubt about who engineered the takeover of native land, it was Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum!

The power that Aiyaz now wields and the blatant way he parades it now make the dictator look as though he’s completely under the control of Aiyaz. So what is this mysterious hold he has? Does Aiyaz have proof of bribes the dictator’s been accepting? Does he have photographs of the dictator in a “compromising position’?

Aiyaz is obviously playing a dangerous game."

Bloody hell Rainmaker your interpretation of the laws is absolutely wrong in every way possible. Rather than explaining the contexts and reasoning I'll just summarise it. Basically the new laws have just changed the decision making of landowners. Before it was usually just the Chiefs and the clan elders that decide on anything about the land. And they're usually the ones who gets bribed and sweet talked.

Now the decisions has to be through a vote by the clan and requires 60 percent on whether to give the land or challenge things done on it. That in a heartbeat is the main change of the laws on Land. All these other variations and usage laws are for when the land has been given by the clan.

So stop misinterpreting the laws and trying to manipulate the mass you freaking racist sod.

Ideas on how to improve the country Vili? Since you are full of them wild imaginations on how you can improve on foreign trade relations with our prominent neighbour countries, FF should actually take you on. You can be allocated side seat with the best view but unfortunately as we know it, all your 'well-thought-out' statements will be refuted and probably 'sin-binned' so to speak!

But this is what we mean. We've tried to point out to you the REAL situation that was past and present. The AG Report reveals high levels of abuse and mismanagement, corrupt negligent misdeeds of high to low ranking useless crackpots of your FF government. Do you understand what all this means? For 8 long years your thugs were having a 'grand ole duke of york' party amongst themselves raping taxpayers funds and lavishing themselves with pay increases and new positions, the lot!

And now you are in an indirect way admitting their flaws by thinking up ways to improve Fiji's relations on FFs behalf? You donkeys now learning that you have a lot to catch up on in improving your tarnished record to the world huh?! Our beloved country has been democratically raped by a THUG appropriately mesmerised by all the power and glory that his brilliant troll AIYAZ dreamed up?? No wonder he has all these guilty body-guards protecting him! We dont know who is the more fearful or guilty, Aiyaz or his military goons! Yes, like they say, the day of reckoning is around the corner, no one can escape!

Do you actually think that Australia and New Zealand are as dumb as you are to willingly permit free flow of 'Fijians' in and out of their countries without a visa? Fiji with a Leader who is worldly branded a military 'Diktator', an uncouth, poorly educated thug who is prone to throwing fits????? A Diktator with a charming yet deadly strategist in the making, AIYAZ?? Do you think these western super-powers are that easily conned like the rest of you poor pathetic lot?

All you rant about is bread and butter issues. What about moral and ethics huh? Don’t they matter to you at all? You ever go to Church or believe that there is a God Almighty who reads the hearts and minds of each and everyone he created? Do you actually FEAR God?

RAINMAKER said...

If you still cannot see what devastating changes Aiyaz & Frank has done to Fiji, then we're not surprised! Disgusting how one Muslim in power can say to ALL in Fiji that everyone has rights to that which is Fijian!!!

While our western superpowers are aware at the deadly moves made by Aiyaz in dealing with these undemocratic/terrorist-affiliated nations, they are on full alert! You cant have a small nation with its' hub of the pacific' playing carelessly and dangerously with FIRE Vili!! We are still a developing country! Our military navy and law enforcement intelligence are limited!

Anyways, its obvious a game of chess is being played out at the moment between Fiji and the two countries with America being referee! We've just seen a happy and chirpy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop here a while ago.

What you dont get Vili is that for our country to lean more towards undemocratic regional powers like China Russia, the United Arab Emirates whose Sharia Law is its significant source of legislation, we, Fiji, have made the wrong and dangerous checkered move mate!

But no use explaining to you what it entails right now. We'll let you know accordingly as you dont want to get too excited about such Classified info.

Now we see they're all trying to rebuild old ties which is a good thing. But according to your views, it would be good for FF to play a more demanding role! That's kinna hilarious thinking to me! You definitely aint going to get anywhere with your high-minded demands!

Being all the more defiant Frank and Aiyaz together with their military goons placed our country at great risk by becoming new bed-mates with chequebook China, Russia, Iran, United Arab Emirates etc ...never before in the history of Fiji have we seen such desperate lack of sense and ill-considered foolish moves! Well, as they say, anything goes in order to survive. The thugs crave for power and a nightmarish reality facing them each day where they could very likely end up in the same cell with George, Fiji as a nation didnt matter to these thugs at all!

With a well-strategised propaganda in place before the elections, do you really think we are surprised that Sodelpa didnt win the election? NOT AT ALL!

Interesting enough, AIYAZ KHAIYUM is the main strategist to all the changes being done to conquer and divide Fiji as a nation! We might as well say that he brilliantly conned Frank and the rest of Fiji!

But of course Vili you cant see that.

Just wait bro -time is of the essence and dont ever say that we did not warn you. Somehow I still dont think you'll grasp anything at all!

You may as well declare that you represent WRONGDOING. This Vili is how you portray yourself whether you like it or not.

Pity Vili is not a MP representing FF.

@ kua ni rere 9.14 pm

I know that Australia is a first world country with money and are not foolish to offer us free movements. However I'm saying why not let's be bold and cocky and demand it. They don't have to be foolish to give it they just have to be desperate to give it.

Key word here is desperate. You see the US expects Australia to continue their influence on the Pacific because that pretty much means they have the influence here and they will put pressure on Australia to maintain that.

Now Australia uses the Pacific Islands forum as a tool of influence in the region cleverly using their aid money and other benefits which they dangle to us poor and dumb Pacific Islanders to keep us on side.

Fiji is a major player in the Pacific especially in regards to other member countries of the Pacific Islands forum. And in the last 8 years with Australia's smart sanction and our cocky attitude we've managed to come out of it. One of Australia's assets was the fact we weren't a democracy therefore they used that against us. And it still didn't work.

So with that still fresh in their mind, the US pressuring them and China opening it's Cheques books we actually have a chance to chance to be bold and demand free movements.

Regardless of how they may think of our election personally we're now a democracy. The US, UK and even them have congratulated us on being back to democracy therefore we've removed one asset they usually use against us. Another of their asset which is money is also now moot because they know China have opened its cheque to us. As well as to the Pacific Islands forum.

And since now we're refusing to return to the Pacific Islands forum unless Australia and New Zealand role are revised we have made Australia desperate.

On their mind they'll be thinking before, we were able to fend off Fiji from the Pacific Islands forum using their lack of democracy. And now they're a democracy so we can't use that anymore, as for telling the Pacific Islands forum we'll fund it Fiji can now convince the others saying don't worry China can fund it therefore nullifying our financial pull. And Fiji is like a big brother and brother to the Pacific Islands forum and they have more in common than with us. And it's pretty well known how most Pacific Islands forum members don't like how Australia treats them and likes how Fiji was able to stand up to them. We've even tried to offer military training to them but now the UK have offered that to them directly on top of China and Russia offers so that is also now a moot point.

Fiji goes to the negotiating table with them now and dangles free movements in return for backing off the heat on the Pacific Islands forum then Australia might have to give it, not because they're foolish but because they're desperate. And we all know whatever Australia does NZ follows like puppy.

Hey I know most of the elderly generation might have reservations on it but at least give the younger generation a chance to try and be bold with ideas and attempt to get free movements. They may say no and we'll continue as how we've always been however there's a chance they might yes.

Anonymous said...

I doubt they will say yes, instead they will be laughing at us saying people in Fiji are dumb nuts. Making us look like fools. They must be saying what are we smoking and drinking for such foolish demands? Those 1st world democracy's are super power wealths. Funded by their large resources, multi national corporation's and reserves. We are just a peanut to them. They can go to Samoa or Tonga and make them the new hub.injecting their trillions of dollar's into their economies. I'm not sure about this one this is a risk and Let's hope we don't make wrong decisions and damage our international relations with these superpower nations.

Australia isn't a super power and they're wealthy alright but they can't compete against China. Even the great US of A borrowed from China after the 08 economic crisis and so did the UK.

And don't be dumb thinking they can make Samoa the new hub. A hub is not based on economic wealth it's based on geographical location which Fiji has.

If you look at the EU union there are countries in eastern Europe that probably are worse off than Fiji however they have Free movements with the UK, France and Germany which gives opportunities to their citizens.

Fiji can have that with Australia and New Zealand. Remember those countries joining the EU started as an idea. If we're afraid of big Ideas then how can we expect big opportunities and change. If you look at the Australian team that normally goes to the Pacific Islands forum it's Australia's younger generation, our generation. These younger minds are usually full of ideas and they're given the opportunity by their elders. If Fiji's elders stop trying to think they know better and let us younger ones go to the negotiating table you just never know.

In my lifetime I have never heard our government mentioned possible free movements with Australia and New Zealand. Perhaps it's too big of an idea for them to try it or they just assume it won't work. My question is how do you know it won't work or be considered by Australia and New Zealand if you haven't asked.

Reminds me of a time we were at Traps nightclub drinking with friends. One of my mates liked a Australian girl who were with her friends stood next to our group.

I told him go for it mate. He was all shy and said oilei sa Sega tu ga qori/no chance bro. I told him how do you know. He came up with excuses oh she's out of my league, probably too rich and too good looking.

I told him hell no, whoever she is she's still human who's not perfect just like you. You just have to choose your moments and words right. He continued to believe there was no way he could. So me refusing to believe that I had to engineer a chance for him through the girls mate. He ended up with her and now he's in Australia married to that girl. Australia and New Zealand maybe richer than us and democratically better which is understandable. But they're also just men and women like us with families. They have weaknesses too. During g negotiations we have try and approach them on a human level to connect. Do our research on their life, families, friends, academic history like where they went to study and who with. What sports they follow etc etc. Connect with them at a human level so they know you're not some tin pot countries with backward thinking racist elders but a country filled with a young democracy filled with eager citizens who are hoping to get opportunities just like how they have so we could study at the same school, buy the same car, eat at the same restaurant and watch our same favourite super rugby team together at their stadium. Believe me when I say it if the elder generation of Fiji stop acting like how they've had since independence and give us younger generation a chance. We'll probably ask 100 different crazy question with crazy ideas buy there's a chance one of them ideas will become a reality. And free movements is an idea I'm hoping will become a reality.

@Vili Rakoro 5:59 AM

Vili, are you fully aware of the major concerns in the UK by the British regarding the policy that was made within the EU allowing free movement?

The UK is now filling up with unemployable scum that have moved 'freely' there, they are now living on the streets, draining resources and are hated.

Australia and NZ are watching the UK, they can see what is happening.

Aus and NZ are never going to allow free movement.

They will continue to do what the UK used to, and that is pick and choose specific skills that they are short of.

Now what skills does Fiji have in abundance that others want?

Go online and Google Fiji and Pacific Islands forum and choose the news section. You'll see the media from NZ and Australia are reporting major concerns about the forum review requested by Fiji.

As for the UK and EU. It's understandable the UK population are worries but those Eastern EU countries given free movements to UK each have a couple of millions population and all together it's huge therefore it's understandable if they're concerned. However Fiji has a population of what about 800 thousands. And half of those population will be the elderly and kids so we're looking at only about 100 to 200 thousands possibly shifting over. That's not a huge number. And certainly not a number to be more worried about then the review of the Pacific Islands forum as both Australia and New Zealand are clearly worried about as stated loudly and clearly in their media.

Put it these way do you want free movements with them or not. Simple yes or no answer. Forget about the politics just say whether you would want that for Fijian citizens or not?

Editor,
The United States has - to borrow a popular expression of the Fiji Sun journalists when they heaped praise on the Fijian dictator Frank Bainimarama - NOT MINCED ITS WORD when it described the elections organised in Eastern Ukraine by separatist rebels as a "sham"( Aljazeera 4/11).
It's astonishing how clearly the US and other international partners are able to see a sham election - from time to time when it suits them.

His the only sole bread winner sending money back home for me and my mother to survive. I'm currently coming to the end of my studys in mechanics and relying on him to try and get me on board to work for the company his employed by. fingers crossed a miracle can happen.it will lessen the burden and sacrifices he has made and we both can repay our mother who has retired now and pay her back from the hardwork her and Dad has done to give us a good life.if we can have free movement that will be a miracle. Please the UN couldn't organise a piss up in brewery. The US and UK consistently ignores them. Case in point was the Iraq invasion and the Syria sham. Russia also didn't bother about the UN in terms of their chichnia policies or Ukraine meddling. China with Tibet and UK with the Falklands. Even Israel and Palestine. The UN is useless. The Fijian troops who got captured were due to the UN command and whilst being captured the UN was useless again.

You can go on parroting the results of the Election till the cocks crow tomorrow morning. That doesnt alter the facts that you and your FF Leaders remain CORRUPT ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL as far as we are concerned.

How about get your head out of the sand and do some research. Hahaha.

See, if it makes it any easier for you to understand, one of the United Nations role is to SAFEGUARD HUMAN RIGHTS.

Now tell me, if they are not happy with the Constitution that Aiyaz & Frank ILLEGALLY & CRAFTILY CONSPIRED together, what does that tell you??

Did these THUGS of yours safeguard human rights or even try to respect the Rule of Law?

Are you still going to sit on your high top branch and squawk like crazy?? You may scare the chipmunks away!

No point discussing issues of this nature with you - empty vessels make the loudest noise and wrong will always be right for the likes of Frederika Elbourne!

@ anonymous 12.10 pm

That's a very touching story and I'm sure there are thousands others out there in your situation. And yes Australia is advance and wealthy and we have a reputation of coups but foreign relation and politics take everything into accounts. The goods and the bads of a country and together with current situations they then make a decision. And the beauty it is that we don't have to convince the whole of Australia we just have to outplay their egotistical politicians, make them desperate. What I meant is threaten to reduce their influence in the Pacific. These types love power which comes in the form of influence. That is their weakness and that is where our miracle will come from.

I love economics always have and always will. And I truly believe it's absolutely plausible to out manoeuvre Australia to get what we want. Let's face it they've done it so many times to us and I'm tired of loosing to them. It's about time we turn things around in terms of foreign relation. At the negotiation tables on the Pacific Islands forum they talk with a bit of attitude like oh we're better you're just a bunch dump monkeys. I've always said one day I'm gonna get you and when I do it won't be something minor like getting you to double your aid money it will be something you never thought of or imagine like a free movements agreement and then you'll be back in your nice shine Aussie house drinking your nice Aussie wine thinking how the hell did that dumb Fijian monkey out played me.

And I'll be in Fiji drinking grog and saying who's the daddy now you Aussie biatch.

Editor,
The iconic pro-democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung Sung Sui Kyi said the US should not be overly optimistic about Myanmar's transition to parliamentary democracy. She said the country's military was stalling on constitutional ammendments which would bring about genuine democracy (SBS News 6/11).
The military is obviously reluctant to relinguish their iron grib hold on power in that country. That of course is not an uncommon phenomenon as the recent Fiji experience has shown.
The transition, some pro-democracy activist had warned, was mostly window-dressing for the international "partners" - to get aid and investment and trade.

Following on from @ 2.09pm

Aiyaz used Frank to carry out his devious plot. I dont think his sulu trick and marrying a local Fijian is making any positive impact except for those who are subservient to him like Frank & 'the boys'.

One of the moves by Aiyaz was to seize and abolish Fiji sovereignty, get all the Indo-Fijians to agree that Fijians are to be feared and no longer their brothers and they would be safe under his protection. A new asylum under the new Law! A new Lie!

It was no hidden fact that they all switched over to Aiyaz for his protection! Indeed, his intentions to conquer and divide was an astounding success! Because Fijians were suddenly bombarded in the midst of their complacency by Aiyaz's
'homemade bomb' they were abruptly and rudely dispersed - 'each man to his own village'! With the next agenda - the introduction of threats, brutality, intimidating military marches, riot exhibitions and 'night' raids. There were other destructible and unlawful criminal activities that took place. Instant hauling in of NGOs and democracy groups, more threats and beatings, Aiyaz was having a field day seeing how his strategies were rubbing off into the minds of the indigenous Fijians!! FEAR meted out to Fijians in the form of intimidation and severe brutality was beginning to settle in. The common Fijians, their Chiefs and Church Ministers finally succumbed to Aiyaz's demands! The final weapons, Fear and confusion saw Fijians crumble to their knees. It seemed that the Fijian bati spirit nor the mighty presence of a faithful God was no more! Except for one brave Fijian Chief in Ro Temumu Kepa who was fearless! Without backing and support particularly from the Methodist Church who chose to surrender, she was a loner! That did not prevent her from voicing her strong opinions against these goons which obviously saw her dragged into jail. Inciting fear??? Fiji saw that at least one Indigenous Fijian, a Chief by nature and a Woman, had the courage and boldness to stand up against these fearmongering bullies in Aiyaz's army!

Vakaloloma O Viti!!

Anonymous said...

The nation witnessed Frank and his military goons at direct war against Indigenous Fijians. Fijians saw how their own Chiefs mocked and publicly ridiculed by Frank and made to look like illiterate good-for-nothing men who had nothing better to do then sit under the trees and drink grog whole day! Next, Aiyaz's army carried out stiff orders and penalties against the Methodist Church. The Church saw how their ministers were treated like dirt!

Aiyaz's plot to now conquer and divide the Methodist Church using Frank's bullying tactics once again was a great success! The new decrees that saw the introduction of what was daylight-robbery of land belonging to Fijian landowners and the new Land Bank decree that followed and its meticulous yet subtle plot to take precious land away from the Indigenous Fijians and securely lock them up in a Land Bank vault was also another great success. Through cunning and ploy and well strategised 'educational' visits to villages throughout, the outcome was incredible. The majority of landowners fell for it! Now they will not be able to retrieve their land nor have a say for the next 99 years - the FF government now owns the lands. They will dish out any payments THEY deem suitable to pay to the landowners in future. The landowner will now be a bystander and hope and pray that all goes well with his piece of land that they've cleverly swiped away and plonked into a vault which will sit there for the next 99 years. It will be a marvellous thing if the individual landowner would live the rest of his years to see fruitful income. Perhaps he will even wonder whether his children and grandchildren and next of kin will ever see and own such precious land again.

Land and sea resources owned by Indigenous Fijians - subsequently swept away by a very ambitious man in Aiyaz Khaiyum - the real force behind all the draconian laws that were imposed over the people - a man who ruled over an uneducated, gullible thug in Frank Bainimarama.

Aiyaz was notably able to toy with Frank seeing that he, Frank, was in fear for his life and would do anything to avoid a life sentence in totogo.

Aiyaz Khaiyum equals GREED AND THE DRIVE FOR POWER!! Aiyaz has had his way!!
